CULTURE CLUB Early Demo Tape UNEDITED VERSIONS

When Culture Club released their Box Set back in 2002 to celebrate their 20th anniversary, they included demo tracks from the first recording session with the George-Jon-Mikey-Roy lineup that took them superstardom (an earlier demo was recorded with original guitarist Suede, with still unheard songs like I'm An Animal, Eyes Of Medusa and Mask.) Those demos were edited HEAVILY, as this tape shows. It includes I'm Not Crazy (originally intended to be a single, but after the success of "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" they decided to go for the AC market with "Time" instead. The other two songs were never released (apart from the edit versions on the box set), "Put It Down" and "Kissing To Be Clever"- the title track of their debut album that was not included. I set this audio to various video clips and still photos all from the very earliest days of Culture Club and BEFORE, including clips from Boy George's very first time appearing on British Television from 1979, a still shot taken from his appearance in the British Airways commercial that aired during Charles & Diana's royal wedding, his first ever appearance in a music video, Rick Wakeman's "I'm So Straight I'm A Weirdo", his first time on Top Of The Pops (dancing in the audience in 1981, not performing on stage) and more.

The Culture Club Box Set was such a GEM to be released with demo's for You Know I'm Not Crazy, Put It Down, Kissing To Be Clever, White Boy, I'm Afraid Of Me and the unreleased Stand Down which SHOULD have been a single, it's so brilliant and Next To You. NOW *** Are we ever going to get The Eyes Of Medusa and I'm An Animal???? IF ONLY . May I add, I adored George's original vocal on the demo of You Know I'm Not Crazy, so post punk and deep in tone. As much as I love Time (CLock Of The HEart) the success of Do You Really Want To Hurt Me changed everything and the record companies would have wanted a more accessible track. I am glad Time was recorded as it's glorious but it would have been brilliant to have You Know I'm Not Crazy as a follow up to Do You Really and then Time after You Know I'm Not Crazy just to keep us early CC fans amused by the silly general public and to shake things up again. After the success of Do You Really, they could have gone with You Know I'm Not Crazy as it established them as a band. I have the FULL longer demo's of Kissing To Be Clever and Put It Down that were not edited thankfully!

I wish I had some. I can't believe they didn't have any in the box set from CBN, but I wouldn't be surprised if WUWTHOF didn't have many demos at all, it was written and recorded so quickly they probably didn't take the time to do much more than very rough guide tracks.

I hate to think what the Audiences in America and the World would have thought if Culture Would have stuck with their Original Name " The Sex Gang Children." I Love the Demo of " You Know I'm Not Crazy, Put it Down and Kissing To Be Clever "( Which I never understood why it wasn't included in the Album of the same name.) Which is My all time Favorite Album and Era of Culture Club. Their early look was defined by Designer Sue Clowe which Boy George had a big help in developing their look. Back when Boy George had just changed his name from " Lieutenant Lush." Shortly after getting kicked out of The Band " Bow Wow Wow."
