I remember several years back when I was little, my father had a big ole' box of old ass MREs that they let him take because they were going to throw them away anyway. I found the old box one day, in his old shed, and I'm sitting here wondering what they were, so he grabs one, and it says "Chili Macaroni", he gets some warm water, pours it in this little pouch, and he let me try it, wasn't bad, but he said that I can try my own, since he wanted to finish the one he opened up, So, I grab one, thinking the one that says "Spaghetti and Meat Sauce" would be pretty good right? The down side is, I didn't have any warm water, so I ended up having, this really chunky, dried up Spaghetti, an old, most likely stale pop tart (I couldn't finish it), some packets of peanut butter and jelly, with some old, stale crackers, and a bottle of water that my father gave me while we were working outside that day. We've, since than, gotten rid of those MREs, but the cool thing is, just the other day, I went to this old thrift store that had a bunch of old MREs in the back room, and now it seems nearly every time I go in there, I'm snagging a Cheese Ravioli, or Beef Ravioli, and I absolutely love it. The whole bring-together of the story is I'm glad I watched this video. Though I can't say I've been in the military, but I still love hearing all the stories of your guy's time there. @PilotTed4 жыл бұрын
You can make beef stroganoff at home very easily, its really just ground beef, mushrooms, heavy cream/sour cream, beef broth, and noodles if you want to be simple. If you want it to be amazing, you can add onions, garlic, cheese (Parmissian, romano, or any other hard grate able cheese), bone marrow, black pepper, salt, dried chopped up herbs (really any will work, especially oregano and rosemary), and more. Its very easy to make and has many variations. The one I listed are the most common american versions. In Russia it has no cream of any kind and is served with rice rather than noodles. You can use any noodles you want, but its best to use short noodles that pick up sauce like fusilli, rotini, manicotti, elbow, shell, rigatoni, bow tie, orecchietee, penne, and others. gnocchis also go great with it. It really just depends on what you want, but it really doesn't matter what noodle you have, any will go good with it, beef stroganoff is really just meant to be easy and simple to make with what you have.

Problem is those are two MREs that you never got any kind of treat in. In Beef Stew you got Crackers and Peanut Butter. In Chicken with noodles you got Wheat Snackbread, crunchy peanut butter, and thin grape jelly. Once upon a time there had been a tunafish mre. In the words of my one sergeant "it smells like abused prostitute with a dose of the trich." We wrote "satchel charge " on them and threw them at the opfor team during annual training. (This was the late 90's when the "kosher/halal" MRE's were becoming a thing. The tuna MRE was earlier vintage. And they were 100% awful)

Hey, Zach, I've got a gun question for you. My uncle Jay, as a former Combat Specialist for the US Army (and a native of rural Arkansas), he has a great deal of experience and appreciation for firearms (especially cowboy weapons). So, back in 2001, my father bought him a .22 revolver and a .357 lever-action for Christmas. Jay took those everywhere; he kept it under his pillow at night, he practiced with it every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, he even used it when he was teaching firearm safety classes. He taught my cousins and I to shoot with those guns. He REALLY loved them, to the point that, three weeks ago, when the .22 finally broke after just shy of two decades, I saw him cry for the first time since we buried his brother Tommy. What with Christmas being so soon, my father and I figured we ought to get him a new revolver, but we weren't sure what to look for. I was hoping you might have some recommendations. We would prefer to get him something with a wooden grip, a blued finish, and a 5 inch barrel, but high quality is a must. Btw, .22 is Jay's favorite caliber because it's readily available and relatively quiet, which are nice qualities for hunting (and because he thinks that .357 and .45 cal. are too big for a hand gun), though he does own a few other hand guns in higher calibers. Anyway, if you find the time, tell me what you think.

Favorite MRE: Brisket Entree. Add the cream with the salt in the mash potatoes and heat that with the brisket and the metallic taste is gone. (14th Mre since 4rth of July) Least favorite: Spaghetti with meat sauce because it tasted too salty( first Mre since 6 years)

Man I do not know where the hell you’re getting your MREs from. One of our captains brought a few boxes up from the USA after one of his visits there, shared them with us, and god damn they were delicious. I mostly had chilli with beans and Santa Fe-style rice with beans, though the other foods there were pretty tasty too. Cracker things were a bit bland but quite honestly they didn’t work for what purpose they’re supposed to - and I had 6 of them. Definitely tastes better with jam. Also the hot cocoa, absolutely amazing. He said that they were some “new MREs that they were introducing” so unless you last ate MREs before their introduction I have no words.

After a hurricane roughed my town up like a red headed stepchild a couple of years ago we didn't have power in the whole county and my place didn't get it back for a week but the military showed up and started giving out a ton of free stuff like cots, blankets and all the mre's we could get. With refrigeration nonexistent the perishables ran out fast so we ate mre's and man. Some of them were alright but a lot of them were hard to get through. We had stacks of the things that lasted a whole year too cuz we were like, hey free stuff.

I had a french MRE not to long ago. It was a Lasagna MRE, was suppose to last the entire day. It had two small packs of coffee, its own small fire kit to cook the food and heat up coffee, multiple snack bars or chocolate Energy bars, utensils and napkins, salt and pepper, lasagna, and a carrot soup, the whole 9 yards. Everything except the snack bars were good. Snack bars were some kind of awful compact fruit jello jam.

I bought so many MRE's from the guys in the Army when I was in college - because they didn't want to eat them and I was broke. No heaters, but $5 or the equivilant in smokes/liquor is literally what I lived off of. The cheese spread was good and it was so nice when I opened one that had Tabasco. I swear they put a ton of fiber in there, because I'd only shit every other day and it was like shitting out literal cement bricks. Dense, like a paladin. I feel bad because you gents had a mess, whereas it was MRE or die for me. I remember my broke ass roommate and I sharing one that I had left in the back of my car and it was the height of flavor. Guy Fieri was driving buy calling it flavor town. No spice better than hunger. Also, I remember getting two VOMELETEs for $5. That. Was. Awful. I still want my $5 back.
