Great review Nathan and really happy you enjoyed the ration! The mains always look so fresh in the French rations. Now i really hope one of my other French rations has the fish soup! Also drove up my sub count quite a bit. Really appreciate that and always glad to support the channel. Cheers!

With the French ration packs you get exactly what it says on the tin. If it says pork and potatoes you get lumps of pork and slices of potatoes. Awesome 👍

Love these videos, especially the vintage MREs. Only complaint that I have is that I can never find the link for his knife. And I keep looking. Anyway, thanks for spreading the knowledge about the taste of MREs

The chocolate pudding is actually pudding and cake. It is very popular in France. There are two kinds of pate. There are the real smooth one and a coarser chopped one. The coarse style is called country style. The fish soup is excellent. It is almost a gravy. I saved mine and used it as such over mashed potatoes. Tasty.

Well that was some timing. I have just tugged in to a few bit from my Menu 2 that I had left over. These ration are some of the best. Cheers Tim.

One of the MRE community favourites,French RCIR. Great review Nathan 👍

It seems a lot of the European rations have main entrees that are tinned or in thick aluminum foil type containers. Some of those meals look really well prepared and really tasty. Is there anywhere those individual entrees can be purchased? Any importers? I've not seen them in stores...only frozen junk here in the U.S.

I think the difference with the hot chocolate is it's not a heated chocolate milk as it is a traditional Hot Coco which is generally Coco powder, water and a bit of suger. (I grew up drinking both as my Grandmother made Hot Coco in the mid-west winters)

Holy cow! This is almost a meal for 3! I would eat that! And naturally, you enjoy it to the fullest. You and Steve1989MRE, are the experts. (By the way, no need for an apostrophe in Thanks.)

Luxurous ration from France! I wonder, does the soldier have time for such a big meal? ;)
@cartouchator6 жыл бұрын
it's a ration meant to be nibbled on throughout the day. for example the biscuits are meant to be munched on while walking. It also includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The French components are all good to me except the fish pate (menu 14 I think) and the peach bar..that tastes like wax. Overall good food. Nice review ☺ Edit- I think the curry one is best soup. Fish one only when outdoors and really hungry lol
@docthebiker6 жыл бұрын
U're right it is not Chickpeas but Pasta AND Lentils in the salad. Which for authenticities sake you should have tried a mouthful of it cold, before heating it up (philistine). Nearly all the food in the MRE is pretty familiar to the French squaddie. It's all stuff you can get in French (super)markets and pretty good brands too. Maybe not the powdered Iced Tea, but the bottled tea (avec peche) is as popular (if not more popular) than Cola here. I think you'd probably wet yourself with anticipation if you wandered down the canned goods aisle of my local Intermarche. "In between pudding and cake, not bread" Gateau ;p Protip: Check if cans are blown rather then rely on Best Before date. Oh and Hot Musilli? Sacre Bleu, Do you think that is a Scottish MRE that you must cook the oats? How do you think you would portion this out through the day? Tip: In France the main meal is eaten at noon, and lunch break is 2 hours.

Rillettes (this kind of pâté) is grainy, it’s normal :) And In general the coffee in France is more bitter
@bluej5116 жыл бұрын
Rilette is soooo good, its not a pate its almost like pulled pork but different. The fat on top is to keep it preserved, I personally font eat it but its very good. And the peach drink was a peach iced tea lol

Green tea with mint is Moroccan. They drink it like the Arabs drink coffee. Legion Etrangere nostalgia I would imagine.
@Your.Uncle.AngMoh6 жыл бұрын
Again, no dang milk or creamer for the coffee. I'd be packing some commercial creamer like Coffeemate® in my kit, along with a pepper grinder and a couple of bottles of hot sauce. Great review of a fantastic looking meal kit. Re the rillettes au porc. I pinched this from Wikipedia to save me time typing: "Rillettes (/riˈɛt(s)/; French: [ʁijɛt]) are a preparation of meat similar to pâté. Commonly made from pork, the meat is cubed or chopped, salted heavily and cooked slowly in fat until it is tender enough to be easily shredded, and then cooled with enough of the fat to form a paste. They are normally used as spread on bread or toast and served at room temperature." There's usually a fatty layer on top. By way of comparison, with Russian MRE's, it should be closer to the фарш- farsh than the паштет- paté. I'm not a fan of almond nougat. Even freshly made, it still smells a bit weird to me. We have something that usually gets called potato bake, which is just sliced potato and onion with lardons of bacon or bits of ham, cheese and cream in a casserole dish and baked in the oven. That tartiflette looks very similar.
@user-xp6qi9cu7q5 жыл бұрын
The pork is totally ok IT IS NOT A PÂTÉ it is "RILLETTES" a traditional meal with mixed shredded pork meat and pork grease. That is why you have some white sometimes and this texture, it is totally normal for rillettes. You are supposed to eat some with baguette bread (paradise).
@crowdad2846 жыл бұрын
Everyone’s saying how great the review is but I’m just thinking about how hungry this made me. Also I love pâté.
@user-xp6qi9cu7q5 жыл бұрын
Not fruit pâté (it doesnt exist : pâté is only for meat products). Its pâtE (not pâtÉ) so it means "paste" = fruit paste bar.

Nice review of this RCIR Nathan. Had the RCIR with Ostriche stew a while ago. It was awesome. The only thing i didn't like was the peach drink. It tasted not that good as i expected, a little bit strange to me. The bars were the same to your ration. They are great, especially the nougat bar. Yummi.
@user-xp6qi9cu7q5 жыл бұрын
The peach drink is not supposed to be well tasty its just supposed to be efficient because it is an ISOTONIC DRINK to hydrate your cells with mineral SALTS. The peach flavor is just a bonus a make it better. The goal of this product is not to be a flavored drink, it's for your physical condition.
