The water that comes with the flameless ration heater contains a small part of hydrogen peroxide, because that is the way those ration heaters work. It's also why it's included and it says it's not safe for drinking.

At 7:19 "Pomaranča" means "Orange"... It's an orange flavored Vitamin drink. At 10:26 "Mlečni dodatek h kavi" means "Dairy supplement for/to coffee"... I think it's basically a substitute for milk that you can add to your coffee. At 11:00 "Instant Kava" means "Instant coffee"
@danijelujcic86448 жыл бұрын
And you have to eat the whole box of Vitergin to cover your daily vitamin needs. I guess it's done that way to prevent overdose while you're munching them like popcorn :-)

No. Since 2011, NATO only big nations to conform to NATO standards, Field rations are under E.U. standards, because many of the smaller nations in NATO can't afford the budget to meet NATO rations standard. The US, UK, France, Germany can afford this budget.

The comment about Natick research labs taking notes on how to make a lighter ration. From my research Natick has struggled with the definition of "MRE". The first MREs as you may know were half freeze dried and half "ready to eat". The need for rations to be ready to eat was a strategic advantage. Conflicts of the modern era have seen rapid advancement across the battlefield to maintain the advantage. Having to stop and prepare dehydrated food takes time and that's critical to success. Plus there's a logistical problem of insuring safe potable water is available for rehydrating the food. This lesson was learned during the Gulf War where some of the rations were still freeze dried. Sure they could be consumed dry but who likes that and it draws moisture from the body to hydrate inside the body. Causing potential dehydration. Though it may be a weight savings, we pay for it by having to lug more water to rehydrate the food. Now the US military has gone backwards in a few areas like the granola with milk and blueberries/bananas. Sports drinks and cocoa and coffee drink mixes are another example. Those things aren't easily changeable. I remember reading about how the army was trying to implement a menu that was a sandwich during the 90's. They had all of the ingredients for a crude deli sandwich but it was shot down because it wasn't a "lunchable". It had to be ready to eat. So it's a challenge they have to tiptoe around all the time. Oh and the other nail in the coffin for freeze dried MRE items was cost. Once the Cold War was over. The DOD's budget was being cut and freeze dried food cost way more than wet packed food. It'd be insane to consider the price of MREs today if they were still freeze dried. Currently MREs cost about $7.50-8. Granted there's the obvious DOD markup because the contractors always overcharge. But I digress.

+Eric Piland Great comment! I remember having shelf stable bread that looked a lot like the bread in Canadian IMPs. It came in a separate box and we each usually got 4 or 5 of them. Everyone would save up all their peanut butter and jellies to make PB&Js. As far as the freeze drying aspect I've talked with a a pretty senior person in a major producer of freeze dried meals and their costs would be way cheaper, almost half the cost than the current way of doing things....then again comes in the potable water argument. Cheers Eric!
@agentp66218 жыл бұрын
I wish I knew why typical freeze dried food is so expensive in the civilian market. My dad always told me that freeze drying isn't a new process. It's been around since the 20's. Probably not like we know in the modern sense but it's been around for awhile. In my opinion though, there is nothing that beats it. The rehydrated food taste fresher and looks fresher and from what I've read it maintains the most nutritional content out of any conventional preservation method. It's amazing when you consider it'll last 25+ years. It's a curious thing. Cheers Gundog!

Nick Norskog Hi Nick, I don't usually keep extra foreign rations laying about unless I am looking to use them for trades. I would recommend you try a Lithuanian ration as they are pretty cheap with reasonable shipping on ebay. Same with Russian IRPs.
