Okay yeah, more of a deep clean than a renovation. The amp obviously worked before the strip down.. However still a good watch and definitely better than watching some crap soap with the wife ! 😂

yeah forget all the other stuff he did like pulling all the caps and testing everything for continuity and testing all of the caps to make sure they are good. sometimes a good clean can make things work again so instead of being so damn negative keep it to yourself. "poked random contact with a tester" tells me that you have no idea what you are talking about too.

It made my heart feel so good to see cleaning completed BEFORE repairs were started. I watch hundreds of vids which don't even give a minor dusting before new parts are installed. I cant understand why any tech would start before cleaning. After my service ended in the early seventies I entered industrial maintenance work with some really top notch professionals who insisted on clean first which I maintained my whole 42 year career as an industrial electrician working in rubber, foundry, trucking and auto dealerships.

Great video! I recently restored an old Peavey CS-800 Commerical amplifier. It was for my own use, I spent way too much time and money on it, I would never do this for a customer. But it turned out great and is still a solid performer.

You went through all of that trouble and didn't clean the pots, switches, fuses or other contacts? I've done quite a few restorations and I would never think of bypassing a deoxit cleaning of all of the contacts on something that was that dirty. I would rather forgo the paint job than skip those.

I see the two mains fuses are 16 amps into a PC board. Assuming you are in Europe at 230VAC x 16A total = 3,680 watts max. Leaving a little room to prevent fuses blowing every hour at full volume, let's say 12A working load. 230V x 12A = 2760 watts in from the mains. The amp is a direct coupled analog amp, so it's about 35% efficient to get great harmonic distortion numbers the audiofools insist on. 2760 x .35 = 966 watts /2 channels = 483 watts/channel....into probably 2 ohm loads. 483 into 2 ohms, 242 into 4 ohms, 121 into 8 ohms per channel.....hardly the 4KW RMS promised. 121 watts RMS will smoke most consumer grade speakers! Less than 2 ohms the lines of transistors melt but will blow the 16A fuses or pop the house breakers before the fire... Shhhhhh....Never mention math when selling stereos!

@@klonik79 True, it's targeted at clubs, discos, cinemas and auditoriums etc, specs claim 3760W RMS @ 1%THD bridged into 8 Ohms, 2800W/ch into 2 Ohm, rated power consumption at maximum output 6760VA.

The mains plug is US style and it seems the place got 115 volts mains. In US a 230V mains plug looks different. An amp of such caliber it runs in a professionel sourronding on 230 fused with a 32A outlet, such as CEE series plugs.

At 33:10 it appears to be playing with the power switch off. Also it's fine to wash whole intact amplifiers as long as you let them dry out fully afterwards. I've done it many a time; even with valve amps with the valves removed and transformer shroud holes blocked.

On " LIVE" part I use 6 A fast "S" type fuse , Light bulb ( 40 - 300 W ) in paralell , just build in permanently on my bench . Lately i use heat IR camera to monitor excess heat on PCB's and UV Light , to detect any spills maded from an outside or inside F.E. from electrolytyc capacitors or battery spill .

Big job thanks for the video. I just would try to turn on the piece before servicing it. Also, you need to replace those big caps friend they will leak soon. The glue you remove is crucial for vibration damage the solder points specially if they're sideways. All these is future proofing.
@PlatypusPerspective

That's a current model amplifier that's still available to purchase new. I don't know how long the model has run, but even if it's a few years old, little reason to suspect the reservoir capacitors. I agree he should secure the capacitors against vibration stress, the service manual for that model is specific about requiring that! Common sense too.

Just blow it out with air then take the garden hose too it. Just make sure it is 100% dry before plugging it in. I just got a pair of Peavey SP-2 ti PA speakers I am in the process of rebuilding. One box is missing the 15 inch Black Widow sub and needs a new driver for the horn. But I believe I got one of them dialed in with a fresh cleaning and some new shiny paint in places. Dude slow down on the bomb can paint. 1st three coats need to be light dust coats. Let it dry for 30 min then come in with a medium light few coats. It is not a race to see how much paint you can put on the case. Most spray paint is enamel and that takes a while to dry. When you pound it on it cannot vent off like it needs and with remain soft for a long time. 1st coat you should be able to see metal or sanded paint under it. really up into the third light coat. Once you got the mostly dry light coats you got a nice base to come in with the medium wet coats. A good three of them with dry time of 15-20 min in 65-70 deg. weather (Fahrenheit). Put in hours of work to clean up they unit just to paint it like sh!t. Ya see guys do that with hot rod builds. Put 10's of 1000's of dollars into a rod just to skimp on the paint and ruin it.

Ktoś kto posiadał taki sprzęt wiedział że to jest sporo warte więc mimo awarii czy nie użytkowania dziwi mnie jak można było zapuścić taki wzmacniacz lub go po prostu wyrzucić??? Chyba ktoś go posypał celowo jakimś brudem do filmu jakiś czas przed nagrywaniem żeby wyglądał na zniszczony. Dodatkowo, wzmacniacz się nie włącza a ktoś zamiast zacząć od sprawdzenia przewodu, bezpieczników od razu rozbiera sprzęt na części xD

Good job! Modern lytic capacitors seem to be very durable, or weren't that old in this amp. I was also surprised all those flat cables with their connectors still worked despite only having control signals on them; too many companies working with tubes are using them for like 300Vdc up to 30mA, this will start failing like crazy in less than ten years... Diodes probably measured fine (didn't see the other polarity) but such bridges do fail with heat, soldering, etc. Oh, THAT VCA was interesting find, probably works for some kind of limiting or metering, can't say. Thanks god we still have people doing jobs like this instead of throwing things away for no good reason. See you in 15 years or so :)

This is my take on it Fake as shit. e.g. every test on the toroidal transformers where done on the same multimeter settings, but lets pretend it was real, then every winding was burned out according to the test results. lol. The amp had no dust that normally builds up but was full of wood chip dust from the machines in the workshop. wood dust wont damage the amp and can be easily removed so good choice for fake crap. the capacitors could not be checked with that stupid meter lol another piece of crap. The whole thing is a staged fake video. The diode test was ridicules, All the new diodes failed the test and then failed again in the test in reverse , But this readings would be correct for a good diode if the diode was facing the other way. So there is fake stuff going on here. The bridge rectifiers all checked out as blown useless but the reverse fail wound be a pass. So I think the multimeter has one of these bogus repairs and they put the internal positive test lead to the negative external plug and the negative on the positive plug. Theis guys don't know the difference. This would explain the reverse readings they are getting . This means it is all fake . Also when they replaced the diodes in the board they all failed again because the other component's where also getting measured

So great job! I have found various electronics in this state before as well. After all said and done what did you replace and how much time did you take to clean it up? Restored is defiantly a correct term. You went the distance :)

Hello, I also restore old devices, for cleaning the circuit boards I use spray cleaner for sinks and bathtubs, it goes much faster, after spraying the foam, just rinse with very hot water or with a diffusion of steam. Even on electronics lamps it works perfectly, of course you have to dry then in the open air, or spray ethyl alcohol if you want to go faster!
@brianraulerson5037
@brianraulerson5037 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking it was ethyl alcohol myself. Based on what I noticed in the rest of the video, alcohol would be a cheap, efficient, and available cleaner to use.

A tutorial on how to create a fake device repair video. Take a working device. Sprinkle sand, dirt into the housing. pour some water( optionally mix water with salt and cover some parts to rust quickly). spread the dirt in the housing. Remove the fuses so that the device does not start ( or put the damaged ones). Show that it does not work. Disassemble all components. Wash each component in turn. Paint some part of the housing. Pretend you are repairing something, use a meter that has no capacitance measurement to check electrolytic capacitors.... Put the whole thing together, start it up , show that it works. Most of the videos that are made by people from these countries are fake. I am involved in the restoration of antique and modern audio equipment, and as I watch such videos I can not believe that someone is fooled by such a scam. To repair such devices you need RLC bridges, distortion meter, an oscilloscope, a generator, a load, and many other measuring instruments to get the job done right. After the repair, the amplifier's operating points should be adjusted. This and other videos are ridiculous and so untrue.

@@DanHomeAtLast I consider your comment here is the best... Upon putting power on the beginning, knowing that it don't power up, then without any small trouble shooting first is a red flag already. And as your comment, you are correct. That is not the proper way to test it. i consider it as fake testing of a person that does not know what he is doing.

@@JeromeLouvet I do electrician will work myself I also engineer and build custom amplifiers wire has a resistance the longer the length of wire the more resistance transformer is no more than a magnet field with wire wrapped to create resistance. You have your primary winding and your secondary winding.

@@JeromeLouvet some transformers have a thermal fuse that can blow and therefore it can cause the wire not to touch. Wire can become frail or even burnt to a crisp it's nothing more than copper coated with enamel and there won't be any resistance if the thermal fuse blows and power or current will not be able to flow around the outside of the wire I also do have electrician experience as well.

@@JeromeLouvet they also use a copper enamel wire 10 gauge 20mm Turned about 15 turns and use it as a choke for the output part of the amplifier with a resistor as well as a relay or fuse. It is part of the zobel network.
