That was just ferocious. From the 3 minute mark to 4 minutes was vicious. No jumping around, no fireworks, just decades of experience on lead guitar. Keep in mind too, you must practice to play at this stellar level. Tony could have retired to Tahiti, but for the true love of rock & roll, he would rather totally shred his SG and dazzle the crowds than sip fruity cocktails on a remote beach.

The more I go on with the study of solo and rhythm guitar techniques of other so-called "more technical" artists, the more I go back to deepen guitarists such as iommy, Gary moore, steeve Ray Vaughan, hendrix, dimebag Darrel and j.frusciante . They have something besides technique that others don't have. Iommy one of the best blues guitarists ever! As he put it .. He didn't want to create metal but he liked playing fast or slow distorted blues. A Living Legend!
@jeffroberts_tunes7 жыл бұрын
Damn I don't listen to this kind of stuff anymore but this is one hell of an expressive and dynamic solo. He's *saying* things with the guitar, not shredding to show all the 14 yr olds what he can do. It borders on jazz inventiveness in some of the passages and there's so much dynamic range and space here. Very very cool.

sometimes, given his seemingly endless supply of world beating riffs and his undisputed seminal role in the creation of metal, it's too easy to forget that Iommi is a MASTER soloist - imaginative, soulful, agile, deeply and broadly creative... he stands with the giants and takes second to NONE... he's also an evidently humble, aparently good natured and often self effacing PRO... unlike some of his peers, he's a truly admirable cat. Thank you, Mr. Iommi, for all of the beautiful music you made and inspired.

It's so good to hear him playing this well so late in his career. There was a point with Sabbath albums where I felt he had improved in some technical respects but was playing less interesting material; but here is beautifully bringing all of that skill, and the amazing soul he has, and he's weaving beautiful mysteries. In my life, he's been one of the most influential musicians.

Much respect to Iommi. He doesn't need to play fast nor storm through the neck and play ultra loud to show off what he can do with the guitar and how he improvises. I enjoyed much of his jazz style in the first two sabbath albums and it shows here as well. It's crazy, the Man never could read a lick of written music, every note he plays is a gift from his heart. Truly gifted and innovative, special after the loss of his finger tips. To not give up his passion, changed the industry hunting for lighter strings and redesigning his guitar. I knew when I first heard Black Sabbath, of coarse with Ozzy singing it's was an orgasmic mind numbing experience.. Knowing where and how it all began, plus all the dysfunctional factors and set backs these men had to over come, it's surely seemed ordained by Some High Power..
