Please just use pad adhesive instead of carpet glue.. it is such a pain having scrape/tear out pad when the wrong application is used. And pad glue is faster and easier to use. Either spray or can glue is much better for everyone

The tube was just an industrial multipurpose / surface adhesive for the tack strips. Your floor has to be dust/dirt free, to use it. The stuff in the 5 gallon tub is an industrial grade glue that just keeps the pad in place. The splicing is way beyond me. That’s good stuff! You want to make sure your floor is dry and doesn’t leech water. It might need to be sealed. Ask a pro before you go all in, good luck!

Sowhen you install your pad, you never pad seam in the main doorway due to the fact is when you install your carpet that’s where you pull your main stretch from and you risk that seam or the pad either pulling apart or bubbling under the carpet. So this is why you take a full piece of pad and you drop it from the main doorway to the opposite side of the room and you could pull it back and drop it in the closet and have it one piece that way or you could drop it from the doorway drop it into the closet, cut it halfway and then install another piece of pad in the closet but that pad seam should never be in the main doorway and it should be on the opposite side of the room by that window as well as the carpet seam. The whole theory about the same as two key factors one you keep the seam away from any major walkways due to significant wear and tear number two you keep it away from the lighting, and you hide it on the darker side of the room so the seam cannot be seen at all.

@mrfantum1
@mrfantum1 Жыл бұрын
Really the pad can go down with almost anything, some guys use spray contact cement or Cove Base or wall base adhesive I often use whatever is left over that needs to be used before it expires. It just needs to hold the pad in place during the stretching process. Yes on stainmaster

Done right. Power stretched. Just watched 6 dudes on you tube giving tutorials on knee kicking in basements. Everything has to be power stretched. You can't give a knee kicker tutorial on you tube and have it work. Knee kicking takes a lot of practice.

It doesn't look like you used a moisture barrier pad. Isn't it better for mold on concrete? Why not float it instead of glue it down? Working on my basement now and want carpet but worried about moisture.
@mrfantum1
@mrfantum1 3 жыл бұрын
moisture resistant pad is always a good thing. This house was built only a foot out of the ground and had floor heat. they won't likely have issues with moisture. When you talk float are you referring to the carpet or the pad. I don't float the pad because it would move around while installing the carpet and I don't float the carpet because it is a stretched in product. you can float a small room of carpet if it is not on any pad. Hope that helps

All that glue under the underlay is so unnecessary, it makes it a nightmare for the next person that has to lay it. You can simply use contact adhesive spray or latex under the joins, the underlay is going nowhere and it’s a lot quicker and you won’t have to waste time folding the underlay after you get in place.
