MMI RMC CarlinKit CarPlay Retrofit Solution Box installation in Audi Q3 (8U)

Installation of the Carplay Box solution from CarlinKit in #Audi Q3 (8U). This vehicle was made in 2012 and was equipped with basic Audi #RMC system. At that time there was no CarPlay option and no factory upgrade to get CarPlay onto the navigation display. Today I'm installing aftermarket solution that brings wireless #CarPlay, AndroidAuto, USB playback, and more to the factory screen.

ℹ️ Installation requires to disassemble few interior elements. Audi RMC Main unit, Climatronic control panel, and glovebox need to be removed to guide wiring harness. Additionally since RMC unit as an all-in-one device with control panel and the main board, it was necessary to open up the unit to add small circuit board that will intercept button presses from the front control panel.
ℹ️ Wiring harness is ready to be installed. It's longer than required which makes it easier to connect, but harder to hide under the dashboard at the end. Box is using factory microphone. There's no coding required. Installation is plug&play.
ℹ️ This installation was specific to Audi Q3 or Audi A1. There are versions and options for other factory systems (MMI 2G, MMI 3G, BMW-CIC...) and vehicles (Audi Q7, Audi A6, Audi A3, Audi Q2, BMW, Mini...) Check CarlinKit website for details and full list of supported vehicles.

Thanks! We will say what's possible. Retrofits are fun but require time and space. Both are limited for me right now...

@@mrfixpl I agree. I cannot even imagine how much time you had to spend studying the instructions for the retrofit. However, obd11 "hacks" are not of much value in my opinion, because that information is generally available. Physical retrofit guides reveal much knowledge that is not generally available, so I find much more value in them. Just my personal opinion.

Hi, my AMI AUX port is located in the centers console armrest. Did you need to use the aux chord adapter to get audio?

No, it was not required, since signal from that port is connected via the quadlock to the main unit.

I have installed it just like you did. But sometimes after my car is completely off the module turns back on and connects with my phones android auto. It have killed my car battery a couple of times. Did you have the same issue? Is it the wifi antenna perhaps? Also a Q3 with rmc

Sorry to bother again but i have a question ; on my previous car - a golf 7 - i installed an aftermarket aliexpress head unit and that thing burned through my battery...was a large consumer and drained the hell out of my battery in short amounts of time (sub 2 weeks i refunded)....does that problem happen again with this device on the q3?

I believe they have a box for A7 with RMC. Not exactly this one (different control panel) but there should be dedicated box for your setup.
