VW Golf MK7 (5G) RVC High retrofit, part 2: wiring camera

Installation of the camera wiring kit for VW MQB cars (Golf MK7 and Passat B8) that I got from AliExpress for around $20. Check out the process of removing interior trim, replacing standard trunk handle with upgraded one (with camera and mechanism), guiding wires though the vehicle, connecting CAN-BUS and video feed to infotainment main unit, adding new power circuit to the cabin fuse box, and more.
ℹ️ This tutorial does not contain coding, adaptation, parameterization, basic settings, nor calibration of the camera. Next steps will be covered in part 3 of the tutorial.
🚗 This tutorial was made in 2015 Volkswagen Golf MK7 with MIB2 Discover Media infotainment system. Process of installation in VW Passat B8 (3G) should be very similar.

Video signal feed - quadlock connector, blue connector, pin 6

When cursed with the fuse not going in first time I felt that in my soul cos that's exactly what would happen to me and I'd have a minor tantrum 🤣 I think people that can do these retrofits are better than vw techs that do it at a factory because it's way more difficult to do pulling everything apart they just whack it in when the car is mostly empty no risk of breaking anything no wondering where things go back because they would be following an process they do all day every day millions of cars. I think you did a great job and showing the mistakes is better than not showing them because it gives others an idea of what might catch them out. 💪

O.m.g. just finished installing my rvc in the Passat B8. Luckily I was able to reach the fuse box without disassembling the center console but adding this fuse was absolutely the worst job I ever did! The purple lock tab does not pop out easily! Anyway, thanks for the awesome detailed tutorial! I would not have done it myself if this information was not available. Small addition for the 1st video, if you want to test it yourself and already have the wireloom from Ali do not forget to wire the ground (chassis) cable to the brown cable that eventually will go into the old trunk release connector so the camera has a ground return path to function.

you don’t have to connect it to the fusebox, you can just put it into the mib2 power cable

Why you didn't release this video yearlier, i just inbstalled high camera on karoq, and didnt understand the situations with pins and grey socket so i have to extract pins with orange/purple and orange/brown cables but i inject cables from camera to those wires....

I am upgrading mine from the RVC low, wondering how much of the existing wiring loom I can reuse., thinking I will be fine to just run the 2 can bus wires from the trunk to the mib unit.

Does chinees camera conflict with the system of other blocks in the passat when you connect to can-bus ? Because over time I started to get random errors like component protection of airbags , but my car wasn't stolen, units wasn't changed or damaged.

Hello, i have a question. How did u get it to open via the park sensors button, mine works only when i put it in reverse - thats how i was told to connect it , to the reverse light. Can i move that wire somewhere so it opens with sensor button?

Hello I’m having an issue and I need your help. Lately without any change or coding the map on aid stopped showing. I scanned the car and there was a static fault in 5F module U10C000 - Control module for instrument panel insert on optical data bus No communication the module is 3G0035043K with firmware 1156. Do you believe is firmware relevant issue or I should be ready for a module breakdown? I don’t gaper any error on aid but th maps won’t show up even with hard reset of the 5F. I really need your help. Did you ever encounter this?

I’m going to install mine soon. I have a lowline so some minor differences. Is it necessary to use the fusebox or can I use a wire with a fuse and receive power from the quadlock?

Oke, installed mine today, tried to piggyback from the quadlock with a fuse connector, works like a charm. Again it is a lowline. But together with the PDC is more than enough for me. I'm very happy. Btw OBD11 has a app for the camera now, which works perfect.

I believe you need ODIS to perform it. And the calibration board that's required for the procedure.

Mr Fix, please can you help from your knowledge, I have installed the camera in the Golf MK7, all works. I used the 12v direct supply from the infotainment unit. Red wire and not used the one from fuse box. All works as expected. Just one issue and not sure if I am missing something from coding, the When I lock the car and come back after a while the camera opens but no display the unit does not do anything until I hold a the button and do a hard reboot and then it starts working again. I have to do this each time when I lock the vehicle. Can you please be so kind and guide me what you think could be the issue. Is the red wire going to the fuse essential ? because the Infotainment system also has the same direct 12v supply I believe.

RVC-High is connected to CAN-BUS network and will communicate with the vehicle this way. No need to tap into reverse light.

If the camera is new, it will require parameterization (can be done with VCP) and calibration on the board.
