Great Stuff Mr foreman. Loved seeing your computer set-up. I was a bit chuffed when seeing your laptop in the Mudroom. Without a doubt your Laptop has played such a major role in the production of all your wonderful videos that you have produced over the past 8 years. There is a lot of content out there today on the tube, but without a doubt I strongly agree that yourself and Wilms are still by far the best duo overlanding team on youtube. Great Series Mr Foreman. I call em bolts too and I'm from UK😂😂🇬🇧🇬🇧 P. S. I've had 3 x series 1 Land Rovers in the past. One had a Rover 3500 that sounded like thunder. FAB Great videos by the way, keep it up. Top entertainment 👍👍👍

I’m in the USA. I use Bearmach for about every part for my 2A. Even with shipping it’s cheaper than Rovers North. I installed a station wagon rear crossmember with extends from Bearmach. Worked out pretty good. I use the LR part catalogue and punch in the numbers in Bearmach. Boom the part pops up. They have an excellent part numbers list.

Great episode. I have used Paddock Spares, Ashcroft, Turners and Island 4x4. All so far are very good. Regarding your nuts and bolts. Not what you call them ..but how you use them that matters ;)

Mr Foreman and Wilms-in-the-corridor, the one most pressing question I wish to ask is; the name of that cat! :) My in-depth comments; Yep. :) OKOK!, Ummm, thankyou Mr Foreman for your actually quite interesting intimate exposure into the delvings of a Series I Landrover Restorer, and the current nether-regions rebuild aquiring-of-parts progress and your sharing of where to try for Landrover parts aquisitions. Also appreciated the introduction to the mudroom etc. Interesting that that laptop has done you guys proud for so long. I too am in the process of scraping coinage for the next PC. This one has seen me through the past nine years but needs relegating to somewhere else. I'm sure the cat didn't mean it any harm. Just marking territory?. Now after dredging up that recent image pertaining to your laptop screen's demise, it's time for a coffee. Bottom line:----- I always enjoy your videos, both in research/knowledge/subject matter/content/videography/audio/fun stuff and even more serious stuff. imho most enjoying and refreshing. Thanks :)

Greetings Noel. The cats name is a complicated affair but you did ask. Originally our neighbors cat, she was born behind a TV set about 6 years ago, she and her sister were initially named Kitty and Kittee. Later our computer destroying friend had her tail slammed in a door creating a distinctive z bend and names were changed to Kinky Tail and Straight Tail respectively. Always outdoor cats, problems arose when a large black lab entered the family that loved chasing cats and so the black sisters moved out. Straight tail to the barn and Kinky Tail to our place where we met and formed a bond. I started calling her 'The Kink' but decided a little French spin would work and changed The for 'LaKinka' which has nothing to do with French so just adds to the lunacy. She now lives the high life indoors on soft cushions having come a long way from scrounging a life out in the fields. So in a very long winded way Kinky Tail would be the official main name. That was a long one hey.. Hope you get your new computer and it works out great. Always a pleasure.

Keep the term 'book' for a chook. You are going to write one, aren't you?. :) PS I am glad you formed a bond. I know I certainly did with a certain tabby in NZ. He in fact was my Best Mate, Friend, Confidant, and only visible support I had; for my last seven years there, before returning home to Oz. Sadly he had to stay. He knew I was leaving, as every night the last six weeks he slept at night on my bed. Miss him heaps. But life goes on.

Years ago I modified my shackle bolts to be grease-able. Using a metal lathe and a long drill bit I bored a hole, drilled a cross hole, ground a slight groove around the bolt shaft and tapped a grease nipple thread in the head. It means the bolt will never get seized again. I think it was worth the hassle for any long term maintenance needs.

That would be a consideration if I can get through the challenges ahead. The brakes wouldn't be necessary on a truck that doesn't run. It's a good idea though. Thanks.

You’d need a servo (brake booster in American) and the brakes would be a bit more susceptible to soaking in water (although they’d dry out more quickly). However, given that Landies spend most of their time plottering about at slow speed in bogs and swamps, the enhanced cooling of discs would be pretty pointless. I’d stick with the drums.

Mr Foreman - you are correct in having not purchased the rear Crossmember for a SII as it would not be the correct width for your SI. Other parts suppliers in the UK for NOS parts includes PA Blanchard, who stock a lot of spares including some used ones which can be refitted. Shop around for parts is the key - Craddocks will provide you with the superceded part number most often having consulted your LR Parts Manual (which no doubt you have a copy of...) - FleaBay in the UK can also provide used parts, but beware that you need to know whether or not it is genuine and often they are sold for more than you can buy them NOS or remanufactured! Best tip of all is to pay to become a Member of the LRSOC - www.lrsoc.com - best £30 odd that you will spend, as many others are doing what you are up to and can give helpful advice and even source for hard to find parts - some are practically Unobtainable... Good Luck with the rear Diff - I only did the Pinion ends on mine, as from the LR Workshop Manual / Haynes Manual you will need setting tools...unless you have done them before and know precisely what you are up to with them...my total strip down of an 86" and rebuild took 3 years!

Well,that's all progress 👍 I reckon I've got a manifold with carburettors on it that you can have for free,all the way over there in Queensland.Well,whatever the freight costs I guess😉I will drag it out,make sure it's not cactus.That maybe be like importing brake drums from the UK,I don't know what it's likely to cost,but a thought anyway🤔 Let me know if you are interested,I will inspect the thing,you might give me a hint how I can contact you,and something might work out😊

Greetings there Wayne. Thanks for the offer of the manifold, if you are scratching about in the shed and happen to find it and its in good shape I reckon it would be a great option. A really good summary of parts suppliers... living in Botswana and restoring a 2A I also have used John Craddock for everything.... just beware of anything Britpart labelled.... can be terrible quality. You showed 2 rear crossmembers, the first one i ordered was a Britpart, got it all the way to Botswana and it was an extremely poor fit... I ordered another one, the same one sold by Rovers North, by a different manufacturer, it has the crossbar you can see.... much better fit.... Juts beware of Britpart... lots of OK stuff but some terrible.

SafariLifestyles I second what you are saying about Britpart. I rebuilt my defender a few years ago and some of the Britpart parts were terrible. I'm having to replace many of them already. I've learnt that locally they have the nickname shitpart!

I'm hearing what you are saying about Britpart, in fact I've even heard it before. Wilms and myself worked on the overland trucks in Africa for 6 or so years and used to pass through Botswana quite a lot and it was one of my favourites. When a trip got cancelled I went down to Etsa 6 and hired 2 guides and 2 fiberglass Mokoros to cross the Delta to Maun foolishly during low water and got attacked by a big hippo. I ended up in the water with it but got under the boat and stuck to it like a barnacle while the guides also managed to stay alive. One of the boats got punctured, the hole we had to patch with a plastic bottle and ankle strap tape. Against all odds we made it to the end. Scariest place on Earth. I love Botswana.

Im in Maun and am on the river with hippo outside... its probable we know some of the same people... was Sitatunga Camp in Maun on your overland truck route? I live pretty close by.... Botswana is pretty cool and Im amazed Im still alive considering the tomfoolery I get up to with a camera and lions.
