She does the Vaush thing where you could say “gender is socially enforced” but because you want people to believe your a deep thinker you say “the axiomatic application of gender schemas by a dominate social hierarchy underpins the enforcement of gender norms” It’s more words to say the same thing. The difference between DM and Vaush is he occasionally has novel and interesting things to say while demon mama thinks it’s a dunk to say the Holocaust can’t be a genocide because the definition wasn’t invented until after it occurred. This not understanding language to even the most basic degree.

Mr Girl is basically right here, although he adds unnecessary convolution as usual. Pronouns aren’t titles, they’re descriptors, and most people use them to describe someone’s sex, not gender. You can’t really force people to mean something different when they use true descriptors about you. You can negotiate with them, and if they like you they’ll probably listen, but there’s no moral basis for demanding they mean something entirely different from what they intended.
@heraldofoblivion499

People don't use chromosomes to determine gender. They predate our idea of sex as a whole. We don't check to see someone's penis or vagina when we declare them male or female. We look at how they act, talk and what they wear. Back in highschool, one of my pals had super long hair and wasn't that toned. It got to the point where people thought he was my girlfriend whenever we went out lol.

What it doesn't mean is that people weren't trying to describe that thing in the first place. I'm a DemonMama fan, if you were to ask me what it is that I see her as far as intellectual discussion goes, I'd say it's her particular twists on different topics. She doesn't say anything revolutionary or new, but plenty of times it has happened that she talks about a given subject, and her opinion on it is insightful and most of all unexpected, and more importantly, it makes me learn things about myself... the thing is that for this to happen, normally it takes watching more than half hour of her content. I watch hours of her content so it happens with a small frequency (I leave her content on the background while at work). I'd guess this can happen with any content creator, so I don't think this is unique to DemonMama, i.e. if I were to watch hours of any other content creator, the same thing would happen to me, since every individual is unique in their opinions and assessments.

I completely agree with your take Desitny about people can't just choose a new identity, but they can choose to do things to change their identity. Wouldn't this mean people who just say they are women (who were born male) aren't women, but if they actually do the things to change that identity, like take hormone blockers, surgery, or present as that gender. So many people seem to just say they identify as something, without doing the things to actually be identified as that thing by others.

I agree with Destiny's pronouns take to a point: Pronouns are a gendered stand in for a person. Without knowing a person's gender you fall back on your perception of their gender. Once you find out their gender, you now have more information and don't have to rely on perceived gender. A person's pronouns aren't their "preferred" pronouns, they *are* their pronouns. Mrg linking pronouns to sex rather than gender is the big problem with his argument.

Success is luck and hard work + responsibility. Any one who says otherwise is either immature or coping. Now luck is somewhat able to be manipulated. You can work to put yourself in situations where good luck (opportunities) are more likely to happen. And then, you have to be able to execute on the opportunities (working hard + responsibility)

Pronouns are based on sex. Be it human or cat, people base the pronouns they use on others based on the sex they perceive.
@Savannah-
@Savannah- Жыл бұрын
You don't perceive sex though. I can't perceive your chromosomes or hopefully your genitalia. I can perceive secondary sex characteristics or gendered things about you. If pronouns are based on sex you'd call a cis woman who looks like a man she, if they're based on perception of "sex" you'd say he. If you'd correct yourself to she despite a biological female being perceived as a man by you why couldn't you just do that for trans people?
@kayokayo7917
@kayokayo7917 Жыл бұрын
@@Savannah- How can I not perceive sex? How else does a heterosexual male identify a female? My cat, is a he because he's male, not a man. Breasts can be perceived, hips can be perceived. Hell, smoother skin can be perceived. I can "perceive" how deep a person's voice is. Not having broad shoulders can be perceived. Those are all identifying sexual traits. Yes, the gender traits can also be used as identifiers, but that's off like a quick glancing look or if that person works tirelessly to hide and deceive people perception of those sexual features through make-up, surgery, and artificial hormones. 2/3s of "gender affirming care" has nothing to do with gender social constructs. I do refer to females who "looks like a man" as she. They're also known as tomboys. Do you refer to work boot wearing, football loving car mechanic tomboys who don't wear make up as he? Or does she have to verbally identify as a man before you do?
@Savannah-
@Savannah- Жыл бұрын
@@kayokayo7917 You're speaking of secondary sex characteristics not everyone of a sex has. There are cisgender females with rough skin, no boobs, a deeper voice. Opposite for cis men. There are very feminine appearing women due to their secondary sex characteristics that you'd generally know even if they wore masculine clothing. There are other cisgender women that can wear gender neutral clothes and still appear as a man to some. The issue is what you're saying is contradictory. Do we base pronouns on what we see? I'm not asking about someone who still appears as a woman but dresses like a tomboy. I'm asking about someone who looks like a biological male to you. If it's based purely on your perception of their sex you'd call them he. If it's based on their actual sex it'd be she. Which is it? You're saying two things and equating them. To answer your question I call people by my perception and change if they ask. I'm ignoring the random transphobia you threw in there.
@kayokayo7917
@kayokayo7917 Жыл бұрын
@@Savannah- What?!? How can you "appear as a woman, while dressed like a man"? Do you mean appear female, and dress like a man? I don't see the contradiction. What is perceived is irrelevant to my point anyway. Perceptions can be flawed and manipulated. You can call them septenary sexual characteristics of you want, it's still sexual characteristics and they're extremely reliably used to identify a persons sex. If someone saw a completely nude, no make-up, bald female in a t-pose (zero perceived social constructs) almost everyone on the planet would say "she is naked". Full stop. It seems the only time the rules change are when dealing with the trans community. When people speak on animals, (no human social constructs) we use sex pronouns. Cis-humans? Sex pronouns. Trans? "Well you know it depends because this or that." I'd bet even you do it. I should rephrase my question. That tomboy I described, her entire body says female, every social construct she adheres to is that of a man, she or he? Or does she need to communicate it. It's not a trap, I'm genuinely curious if you value the actual facts of the social construct or their self-proclaimed identity more. You can change it if they ask but that's purely etiquette based, not grammar, sorry. Maybe deceptive is the wrong term or too harsh. A woman (gender and/or sex) hiding her imperfections with makeup may not be malicious, intentional, or evil ... but it is ____________?

While I enjoy destiny a lot, this is one of his weak points. While generally he is pretty thoughtful about things. Sometimes in regards to some people or topics he grabs the standard left position and then shuts his Brian off and repeats the generic talking points. ShoeOnHead is another person he does this for, most recently with the "shoe is giving the right pedo ammo" which in essence was just the Rittenhouse situation on a lesser scale where people just fabricated from nothing her intentions. And when people started to point that out everyone suddenly turned into a consequentialist and while shoe never linked the LGBTQ community into it (and has a history of the opposite), because the right did in this case she is now bad for it. (This is not an endorsement of either of these people as I'm not super familiar with shoe and I have heard JBP say some more recent stuff that makes me wonder if he still has his brain switched on or also just goes around repeating talking points now.

I think what Max is trying to explain at 58:00 is trans people put alot of effort in and even have surgery to pass as a specific gender. Yet at the same argue we can just pick our gender. If you can just pick your gender what is the point of trans surgery or hormone replacement. The way you present yourself in the world doesn't matter because you choose your gender.
@Segphalt
@Segphalt Жыл бұрын
The disconnect I have had with this stuff has been interesting to say the least. It's very hard for me to wrap my brain around. Through all of my growing up under a liberal family and friends for the most part, I was instilled with the idea that gendered stereotypes were silly and didn't matter. People like what they like and dress how they want to dress. Then for the trans things to become relatively known and have people fully embrace gender stereotypes to help identify themselves as a gender. I've now recessed into just calling everyone their name or "hey you."

Destiny you are exactly right. "Successful" individuals always want to discount luck in their success. Honestly it's likely 50% or more luck/timing and 50% skill/hard work. You can't be successful without hard work or skill, but you also need a lucky break or to meet the right person at the right time. It's ok to admit that luck played a roll, but too often the successful person wants to think they are the sole reason they are successful. If they are well adjusted they are willing to admit that luck and/or timing played a huge roll.
