I can confirm this phenomenon from my limited testing helium in a Drozd Blabkbird. When I played with the stuff I used two regulators. The first was 1K psi output. I didn't have a chronograph at the time, and assumed my 1600 psi regulator would get me even faster. My 1600 psi tests were racked with problems. When I did get the bird to shoot right it was around 1100 fps on the Chrony, but I truly believe it was faster with the 1K regulator.

I would guess the gun has a single stage regulator, as the input pressure goes down the output pressure to the rifle goes up slightly .
@Mrhollowpoint13 жыл бұрын
No regulator, just a airtube with a valve, the hammer pushes it in and the air pressure closes it.
@bub_lite_63616 жыл бұрын
From what I'm seeing you might try a heavier hammer spring to overcome the valve at higher tank pressure.

You should try hydrogen because that is what we use in our Lite Gas Gun at work to get 20-30 thousand feet per second. The Piston pumps the Hydrogen to around 20,000 psi and it's safe without oxygen. I don't know for sure but hydrogen should be a lot cheaper than helium. Hydrogen can be made at home but helium is recovered from oil wells.

You could try making the chamber with plasma electrodes and see if that increases the pressure. Since helium can be used for hall effect thrusters there's probably a way to utilize that principle. Plus you'd make the world's first plasma rifle.

N2R11..... First of all, now in 2019 - the .82 cal (20mm) is NOT available, but all the others are, from .257, .308, .408, .457, .50 and .72 cal. The Base price for the Nitro 500 Express is currently $1,880. to give you an idea of price. The .257 is offered at "custom pricing"... so would have to call him for that. All of Extreme Big Bores air rifles are in the 4 digits (not sure about the .257 cal. in that regards), check Brents site for the specific caliber and pricing... also, the prices listed are for the "standard" rifle, any additional extras, including different stock, etc will raise the price accordingly. These are all custom made in MI., "in house" and are ordered, made and sold directly from Extreme Big Bore Air Rifles (Brent Hoag). There are a few "out-side" dealers for his guns, But best to contact him directly. The barrels Are Rifled, Non - Regulated, as far as tanks and tethering... whatever You can put together yourself or pay to have done for you... check with Joe Brankato at www.airtanksforsale.com/ - he has the largest selection of air tanks, fittings, hoses, etc, for PCP Airguns... and EVERYTHING he sells, is 100% made in the USA.... Absolutely Zero "copies" from anywhere in Asia or anywhere else.

old video yeah, but one thing to note is that the speed of the round should be affected by the speed of sound in the gas propelling it, so a hot gas will shoot faster than the same gas at the same pressures but lower temperature. It's why you'll find things like nasa's micrometeorite research light gas gun having a setup to heat the light-gas before firing it.

I'm new to air guns but would like to invest in one for backyard plinking. I own a Tig welder and was wondering if I could use my compressed Argon tank to fill a PCP? Have you done any experiments using other gases besides Helium? I would like to avoid purchasing a hand pump for a PCP rifle.
@keithjurena93197 жыл бұрын
Forget it. Argon is heavy so speed of sound is low so no advantage. Helium is light so it has higher speed of sound. I use a Benjamin hand pump that I modified to take absolutely dry air at 20 psi. This supercharges the pump to where only 20 strokes takes my Marauder from 2500 to 3000 psi.
@radar21196 жыл бұрын

well with this I could have the adequate power for coyotes and have the flexibility of an air gun as far as where I can shoot although this things upgrade in power has to be taken into account and there may be some explaining to do that it's an air gun just a really powerful one as to why it's so loud and people think it's a firearm I suspect the price tag on this is somewhere along the lines of $3,000 or more but it is most certainly an awesome air gun

Tedd explains at the end of the movie that he gets helium from the local welding shop, you need to call around your local area.
@kiaas6 жыл бұрын
I was watching it and wondering if you had the helium pre-pressurized, or if the higher speeds were perhaps a result of a compressor being used to refill each shot, and it getting hot and heating the helium more and more on each refill, as I mentioned in another comment speed-of-sound affects what you'll get out of a gas at any pressure, and a hot gas will have a higher speed of sound, even at the same pressures, than the same gas when cold. (but I haven't gone and looked at just how much hotter you need it to be to even see a difference.) on a side note, I'm also curious about effectiveness or viability of mixed-gas propellants vs standard air,nitrogen, or CO2. Like Nitrogen/Helium as the safest things to mix.
@deeremeyer17496 жыл бұрын
Where you'll NEVER find ANY bottled gas with a "full" tank pressure in excess of 2200 psi. Much less the "4400+" psi this clown is claiming as his tank pressure. Hooking a small cylinder to a big tank doesn't pressurize the smaller tank to any pressure higher than the...tank pressure. That's called Pascal's Law. If you'd have taken/paid more attention in science and/or shop class you'd know how much bullshit this all is.

Should be easily able to transfer it using a hand pump with a very small diameter piston and two check valves. If you start at 100 bar inlet pressure, you're pumping 100 times more gas per stroke.
@NOREENULR50BMG4 жыл бұрын
Could you redo a helium video where you test different hammer weights, spring strengths, and pressures? I think much more velocity with helium can be achieved in your 20mm @ 4500psi if you've got the right valve, hammer, and spring. You should be able to get over 1000fps with it.
@HolyBibleOpen8 жыл бұрын
impressive. 3700psi 834 fps and 1776 fpe. wonder what a Texan 45cal would do.
@N2RI18 жыл бұрын
lots of youtubes tell about the Texan specs. about same FPS only with air, and about 500 FPE with 405 grain slug and 3 good full shots per charge. could use a remote backpac cylinder for more shots in field with a PCP gun with proper hookups like the new 'Preist' 30cal does as an option. also bullpup design makes for shorter liter carry Rifle plus shroud forless sound. the big bore airgun world is growing daily in many ways Tech, performance, affordability. and like everything when more sell cost goes down. we need to look at practicality for hunting with weight limits, Ammo and air availability and cost of buying/using an PCP airgun with no more cost etc than powder burner of similar capability. least amount of Lead, Air tank, gun size & weight, costs that meet most hunters needs. these 'Monster' airguns are cool but not practical for hunting. 45cal has been max for powder burners since the Buffalo and Black powder went obsolete. lets focus on what works and improve on that where posible then add new features like quicker fireing/reload like the rotary magazine types.
@HolyBibleOpen8 жыл бұрын
N2RI1 Yes, The texan is nice but want more than 1 shot. Thinking on the Hatsan Hercules modified. still less power than the Texan. Will consider having one powerful shot then loading by hand though. But may go Hercules.

You know, someone in the government are going to see all these advances in airgun technology are will want to regulate them. Most likely they will place air propelled ammo guns in with gun powder propelled ammo guns. They will likely regulate by FPS or by pressures? I can see it coming.
@yaddahaysmarmalite40596 жыл бұрын
If there is any such regulations to come along, it'll probably be from the powder burning gun manufacturers because they will want to reduce the competition in the market from airguns. If you can't play fairly in the free market, then use the gov't to knock out the competition then blame it on the liberals so no one wises up on who really lobbied for airgun regulations. Just watch. They've been bamboozling you this whole time getting you to vote against your interests.

Awesome!!! For a 20mm air gun, how big is the connecting piece that connects the barrel to the air chamber. On small caliber air guns the hole that lets the high pressure air (or in your case helium) into the barrel is tiny. I would imagine a large caliber gun needs a much larger hole/connecting piece. What size do you recommend?
