The main gripe I have about many moves in Tekken 8 is the amount of them that feel impossible to move around. With this games buffed movement, I feel like bamco wants movement to be an integral part of the game, but with the amount of moves that have phantom tracking it makes it feel very discouraging to attempt. Great video! I really enjoyed it and agree with much of what you said.
@The_Buff_GuyАй бұрын
The phantom tracking thing is very weird to me. Movement has been “buffed”, they say. But I found sidestepping in Tekken 7 more effective than it seems now.
@JamateeАй бұрын
@@The_Buff_Guy Couldn’t agree more, from my minimal experience in Tekken 7 I also found sidestepping to be much more consistent. Although it could not be applied in as many situations as in 8. I really hope they have a plan going forward to work on the consistency of a-lot of stuff in this game, it would be so great!

Exacly. When I SS a move in tekken 7, it just works. In tekken 8, "sometimes" it still hits. Is it not sidestep-able? Did I step to the wrong side? It's confusing to learn sidestepping in this game.

I think as a newer player to tekken (I played eliza in the last 5 months of t7 and have played bryan all of t8) one of the most discouraging parts of this game is how many things track despite not being tracking moves (to their weak side), how many strings re-align, and all the safe power crushing moves that track. It feels like learning is pointless bc even if I learn the proper way to step it doesn't matter bc everything will track anyway. And my entire kit being counter-hit focused but power crush moves don't get CH and can't just get blocked it's been so frustrating trying to learn to play "proper" tekken. I've begun ducking more in games and that's been rewarding, but I still hate safe power crushes and re-aligning strings with my entire being, as I have a defensive combo-focused playstyle
@joekline5554Ай бұрын
Steve main here we’ve got the same issues but also no rewarding lows 🙃

I feel like a lot of the moves in this game just simply track when they shouldn't. I've labbed some characters and found so many moves that are inconsistently tracking sides they shouldn't even when mashing the inputs. Sometimes the moves lands, sometimes it doesn't, but when it does, the spark tends to be across the globe from where the receiving character sidesteps and visually makes no sense. Seeing this in training mode kind of pisses me off ngl, because I don't remember Tekken 7 having so many moves like that.
@AyudyaKasyaАй бұрын
Having too many tracking moves that discourage sidestepping kinda defeats the identity of Tekken being 3D fighting game, doesn't it?

The real primary problem of much of this broken moves is that the range is basically infinite...nobody complains about dragunovs b1+2 even if it puts you at -1000000 on block, BUT the drawback was always that it has limited range, up until now at least...now everything has to hit from your grandma's house away basically and it has to be superbusted...

I CANNOT BELIEVE Kazuya's Demon Paw and/or patricide fist are not on this list. I see you Buff Guy...I see you 😂 Great vid as always though dude.
@The_Buff_GuyАй бұрын
Hey brother, always great to hear from you! What’s wrong with cd1+2? I think it’s perfectly balanced considering it’s i25+ and is extremely linear to both sides. Devil fist I can see people disliking, but kazuya would be complete shit in this game if he didn’t have a solid mid like that to compete with the nonsense most characters have in T8. I think Devil fist is perfectly balanced. Maybe they could reduce the bit of pushback it has, but that’s it.
@ChadTheThirdUKАй бұрын
@@The_Buff_Guy To be clear I don't think either move should be removed from the game. This is Tekken 8 after all, Casino Royal. But going from your own criteria at the start: Demon Paw is: 1) Extremely spammable in neutral 2) Has far greater reward than risk 3) Has Easy execution in contrast to its power 4) (most importantly) complements the rest of the kit extremely well by making ducking against Kazuya even more risky and moving against him far trickier (especially considering the move has an even WIDER hitbox in heat for some strange reason) As for Patricide fist: You known darn well this is the greatest gift Harada has ever given you. These two moves, much like Drag's new hatchet kick and FC low) patch the biggest holes in the characters offence (A lack of lows for Drag Vs A lack of good advancing mids for Kazuya) and make both characters harder to defend against than they've ever been. The +on block nature of it means that the infamous wave dash mix is now SAFER than ever, allowing second/third attempts if the mid is blocked correctly (again, unprecedented for the character) Does this mean the moves should be removed!? HELL NO! Without these overpowered tools Kazuya would completely drown in the new Tekken 8 Meta. BUT I still think they're worth mentioning in a discussion about power crept tools in Tekken 8. By classic tekken standards they are ridiculous!

As a Nina player I just don't get why they made her combos the way they are. I like the idea of the new DB2 property to help newer players who struggle with butterfly loops but why on earth do they do more damage than butterfly loops with the same wall carry. Please give us back a reason to spend hours and hours perfecting these loops which in reality aren't even needed anymore. In 7 it was done good, players who struggle to land 4 in a row can go for 1/2, less damage and wall carry but easier to do. In 8 players have no reason to even know the existence of what gave her some cool unique combo mechanic.

I use yoshimitsu, Lee and Raven. Raven and Lee have very good strengths, some moves are totally broken and taken individually they could even make you think they should receive nerfs but in the general kit by removing those they would have nothing left to do 😅. Yoshimitsu on the other hand has always had the flash and even in T7 he lounch but didn't do so much damage but it's also true that all the characters on T8 do a lot of damage, I would leave the starter characteristic but only with a little less damage and I would also fix the guard break kin2,1+2 but they must be very careful with Yoshi, in my opinion he is much easier to counter than you think, being drastically vulnerable to the sidestep to the right his attacks in poking don't track almost anything and his basic backdash and sidestep movements are among the worst in the game, if he were nerfed incorrectly he would fall like a house of cards. PLS buff Raven omg
@nostalgkАй бұрын
Feel like you even went light on yoshi this time 😆 definitely agree that his damage should be nerfed across the board, and I could live with them maybe taking away sword stance's flash launch in heat. But I absolutely love the neutral game as yoshi in no sword stance, so I hope it would still launch in that; I feel like it's an easy enough knowledge check to see that when yoshi puts the sword away, they're fishing for a flash. I love how good yoshi is right now, but I also want to see it take more interactions to actually win as him. Yoshi is most fun that way. I remember in Tekken 7 getting excited about Infinite Azure because it meant I could pull off more funny neutral shit, but now it's a race to the wall for a quick close.

Something that is not talked about enough is the distinction between easily salvageable top tiers and not. Like, if Drag's Qcf4 was nerfed in a smart way (eg become as linear as a jab, with significant whiff recovery), he'd still be S tier, but not a balancing embarrassment. If Nina's D2, 2 was nerfed in a noticeable way (eg. second hit becomes -23 OB, or a high, or retained its punishability and mid property but doesn't CH launch) she'd still be a monster, just not a ridiculous one. In every game, there's always gonna be a best character, but they should not be miles ahead of the rest. (like the joke T7 akuma was) And here lies the main issue; You could nerf 10 of Jin's moves, and he'd still be a top5 character, if not the best. Alisa is more similar to him as well. Those characters received so many quality tools over the years, that became oversaturated with plentiful strengths that are more complete than other chars' core identities, and thus, became impossible to bring back to reality unless nuked. Furthermore, the lack of shortcomings clearly separates the top tiers, from the untouchable top tiers. With the right nerfs, Uber chars with obvious weaknesses can go back to getting exploited for those, like the normal chars (Drag's standing punishment and hitbox issues, Yoshi's general punishment and commital tools, etc.) or even go back to doodoo territory, but a perfect top tier, the kind that even the devs clearly don't know what to do with? It's a sorryaςς mess.

Is dragunov b3,4 not considered a broken move? Heat dash gives full combo on hit, heat engager, wall splat, tracks left and right, can be cancelled (b3,b3,b3,4), and a mixup of b3,2,1/1+2.
@kato093Ай бұрын
B3 is a single high homing kick. B4,3 is a mid high. B4,3,2 is a mid, mid, high, similar to kazuya's B2,2,1+2, where you just give up your turn on the 2nd hit but can challenge with the final high.. No idea what you mean with the cancel (B3,B3 blablabla no idea what that is). It's not broken because you can just block high and dragunov gives up his turn either way. You can just gamble and try to launch B4,3 or eat a pathetic 8 damage or something with the 2nd hit of B4,2. Ooh and B4 doesn't track at all. Dragunov has by far the worst tracking in the game, with d2 being used as his main homing move and qcf4 being used somewhat as a homing move, but it's linear as well. But almost everything tracks somewhat in this game. If qcf4 gets nerfed, I wanna see Jon's d2 get it's tracking nerfed, same for kazuya's ff2 (electrics track too much as well honestly) and a whole other list of moves and strings that just track for no reason. Even kazuya's wave dash 1+2. I hope they don't nerf only dragunov and make him unusable trash like in Tekken 7. I want a big patch that nerfs everyone's tracking like the patch that nerfed throws and heat stuff.

I wouldn’t say Devil jin is currently “blessed”, nor would I really say kazuya is (although he’s very strong right now, way stronger than devil jin). Lars only has that 1 interaction where you have to guess on block. It’s not that bad other characters have more ridiculous moves. Also you can jab him out of den 3 if you’re sharp. Kazuya is a walking 50/50 you have to guess in every interaction with kazuya. Nerf kazuya 13 frame launcher. It’s broken.
@The_Buff_GuyАй бұрын
You don’t have to guess with kazuya. He has a solid option select if you sidewalk left into block. It defeats all of his primary options from wave dash, including hell sweep, ff2, and ff3. You have to iws2 just to ensure you catch them sidewalking, but then you risk dying to being launched if they block it due to it being -18. There’s risk reward involved. With Lars, there’s no risk. If you use DEN+3 as an Oki Tool, as It’s supposed to be used for, then you force your opponent into a guessing game with no risk to Lars whatsoever. Your opponent HAS to guess. Even fuzzy guarding won’t work because the Lars can change up their timing after DEN+3 is blocked. So while I agree that Lars only has the 1 interaction where you have to guess on block, that’s already 1 more interaction than the vast majority of the cast has. I don’t think we should act like Lars is a broken character. Or that he’s even a contender for S tier. He’s not. But let’s not pretend that DEN+3 isn’t a crazy move that allows for the next exchange to be almost entirely in Lars’ favour.

My friend is learning Kazuya, he told me that you don’t even need to do the down input for electrics on Reina and Kazuya… like wtf is that. I immediately loaded up a practice and was able to get out a 16 frame electric within 15 minutes of messing with it. Why do just Reina and Kazuya not have to input the down?
@The_Buff_GuyАй бұрын
It’s due to their mist step. Tapping forward once with them with enter this “stance”. From there, you can access all their crouch dash moves with df, instead of d,df. This eliminates a frame off of the input, making it a potential 13f electric, but it’s extremely difficult to implement in a match unless you’ve practiced this for years. I’ve been doing electrics for 17 years and still can’t access the fastest electric consistently.
@filmrecorder5717Ай бұрын
@@The_Buff_Guy yeah I figured the consistently part, is where the execution puts a damper on the move. I didn’t hit a single 16 frame electric after that one, could get 17’s a fair amount but consistently got 18 I think. Almost made me want to play a Mishima, I’ll have to see what’s up with Heihachi

The problem with forced 50/50 is not that it exists, it always existed technically, but it was mostly built in strings, the problem is with the frames and damage, for example Ling's Heat smash shouldn't deal this much of a damage if it's forces a 50/50 into you, and her options shouldn't be this good, the low should be launch punishable(tho you can low parry it for some danage), and the mid should be easily steppable.
@TheGreatAustinoАй бұрын
I agree with most of this. Tekken 8 is great already but it's just not the Tekken I remember. Fighting games tend to follow popular trends within the genre but I'm not exactly enjoying the over simplification resulting in seeing people getting to high ranks by abusing power armor and plus frames all day. I've played so many Bushins and Tekken Kings that only got there following flow charts relying on grabs, frametraps and armor. Don't get me started on side stepping moves that still hit when the animation clearly showed the move whiff, there's way too many moves with ghost boxes and it looks comical when it happens so often.

Shaheen's F4 is not a problem. It has really good stats and is a good move, but other characters have similar moves with similar follow ups (homing high with follow ups on normal hit) and its good really poor range. You'll barely see Shaheen players use it.

Flash is a crutch most times, the best times to use it are when the opponent forgets about it (aka saving it for final round) or to force your opponent to respect you if they refuse to stop pressing buttons. I could see heat flash working fine as a CH launcher. If Yoshis in NSS they want you to press in for the flash launch, (samurai cutter launch trades for NSS flash to launch; both very launch punishable) all you have to do it bait the flash and take the free damage. I do agree his combo damage is unnecessarily high but mostly because of the delayed 1+2 from 3,2,1+2 as a combo ender to avoid scaling.
@tristanherb49Ай бұрын
yoshimitsu basicall has a rageart at anytime and the opponent has to basically play with a rageart in mind also some chars can't launch punish him for example steve so it ain't even risky for him to use it.
@5T0N3R420Ай бұрын
@tristanherb49 A lot of the anecdotal evidence against flash is derived from the opponent never knowing when it fails as a panic button mid string at i6 or i8 in NSS (though I suppose this is a different debate). It is not quite as free as some would have you believe but I do think it's still quite good considering it is a very old legacy move. Delayed timings, hellsweeps, and slower moves after a predictable setup tend to punish it very effectively. Demonstrating you know how to play around flash against a yoshi removes a significant tool from their kit. As a Yoshi main, my greatest weakness is when my opponent forces me to think
@AcrophylliaАй бұрын
Yoshi on the offense, doing mixup, the opponent guesses correctly, now they're +, trying to take their turn with a jab. *Flash*. Opponent thinks the Yoshi is gonna flash, but he didn't, he continued the mixups from scratch.... Yoshi players are guaranteed a follow-up mix-up from a mix-up not even while they're in heat/rage, just like how @tristanherb49 said. On defense, Yoshi while being forced to a true 50/50 -> *flash*. F*ck guessing, who cares. Opponent doesn't press since they think Yoshi gonna flash, doesn't matter since you stand too close to Yoshi -> *flash* Why the hell does flash launch on normal hit, and with insane combo damage too? And a late launch punish means you'll get punish too. It's much harder to punish in comparison to a RA or a grab. As the buff guy said, his flash alone doesn't make that move impossible to counter. It's that Yoshi is now a legit character, with strong moves, but he still has his old gimmicks. Yoshi forces their opponent to play tekken 7 while he plays tekken 8. Kinda like how Akuma broke the rules in tekken 7. Was Akuma impossbile to beat? No. Was he broken? Yes. "As a Yoshi main, my greatest weakness is when my opponent forces me to think" - This statement just solidifies how broken Yoshi is if you think about it.
@SnakeInTheRainАй бұрын
@@tristanherb49Flash is in no way comparable to a rage art for a few reasons. In 1SS it doesn't launch, it doesn't have armor, and it's active frames are far lower than a rageart, powercrush or jun/Alisa reversal. So once you press it and you whiff, you can get punished regarless, the range is incomparable too since you have to be so close to him
@SnakeInTheRainАй бұрын
@@Acrophylliathe mixup isn't guaranteed though by the simple fact that you have options to power through or avoid flash Delay your offense and when they press flash you punish it (be reactive and defense instead of offensive all the time), throws beat flash, and powercrushes beat flash as well and if you have a homing power crush it can beat the sidestep flash. Yoshi himself doesn't really have many forced 50/50 options outside of a heat engage scenario and you almost never have a reason to duck him. Flash also only launches in NSS and in heat, in t7 it launched in both 1ss and nss. And when you punish flash you don't always have to go for a launch, any punish should be enough don't get greedy

Jin's dive kick also needs to be unsafe on block, just like Devil Jin's. The only logic I can see from the dev's perspective on why they made it safe is that unlike Devil Jin's, it doesn't have backsway and isn't a heat engager, but due to it being safe and dealing a ton of pushback it's highly spammable, esp. near corners where you can't step it.

Hwoarang can immediately power crush after it’s blocked. Or he can sidestep. Or he can dick Jab and beat anything you can do. Or he can throw if you attempt to power crush. You can list counter play options all day long and we can go back and forth, but the facts are the facts. Hwoarang has never had a safe way to get in on the opponent. Now he does. And the move they gave him for that does a little too much besides closing the gap. Especially since In heat, it’s +5, and launches. Don’t even argue Jin d2. We all know it’s a broken move, reactable or not. It’s gonna get nerfed, it’s just a matter of when.

@@The_Buff_Guy Okay Power crush; you can bait that with a jab and not worry about being hit. Backlash, etc. Dick jab? His only counter hit low? Every other character has it. Some have high crushing ones that are even faster than his. I don’t really see much of an issue. Now if they choose to nerf it then DB, 4 will need more frames on hit, or more damage. Make zero sense that Jin’s D4 does little damage compared to everyone else essential lows. I main Jin since Tekken 3 and losing D3,3, lost damage to D4, and reducing damage to DB4 all just to compensate the shitty move D2. Granted I don’t care about D2 but really people are blowing things out of proportion when really there are other high crushing lows that are faster.

@@The_Buff_Guy One more thing I forgot to add, bro. Nothing Hwoarang does out of that mid, homing heat engager will beat you. It’s plus one of block. The only thing he can beat you with is Jab. Check all of his options out in training mode, I can guarantee you that a jab would stop every high and mid option he has, only high crushing is going to beat you. I disagree. The move is a mid, crushes nothing, and only does +5 on normal hit. Normally moves like that are safe. The only reason it’s -12 is because it CH launches. It’s completely fair and balanced. If you don’t read correctly, your df2 gets blocked and you eat a chunky 12f punish. If 2 are blocked, you eat more damage potentially than the combo you’d get on a counter hit. That’s more than fair, especially since kazuya is not a CH character by design to begin with.

Ain't no way you still think Reina's ff2 is still broken. The move lost 80% of any tracking it had. How can it be the best demon paw, when it doesn't do one of the best things every other demon paw does, which is launch in heat. It's +2 on block sure, but the mix-up that is forced is NOT in Reina's favor, not even close. You can beat majority of her options by sidewalking left and if she does sentai 3 or sentai 3+4 to beat sidewalk left, all you take is 22 damage, so by guessing correctly when this situation happens you launch her. Kazuya's demon paw is by far the best demon paw out all mishimas including jin and that's not even close. Specially since it's the one demon paw that still retained a semblance of tracking when in heat. Keep in mind, I still don't think Kazuya is better or easier to play than either Jin or Reina, but his demon paw is easily the best no questions. I don't think it needs a nerf, but I also don't think Reina's ff2 needs another nerf either.
