at 0:17 the wire is threaded through a small piece of metal with a whole in it that has rough edges. This will scratch the enamel insulating the wire and can easily create shorts in your finished coil. It needs to be made from nylon or better Teflon and the angles of attack have to be relatively shallow depending on the weight of the supply reel and its associated friction.
@neagoecatalin8795 жыл бұрын
Compliments, it's a good concept as starting point. Defenetly you'll need a tension system for the wire made from two pulleys, a control on the slider based on the wire diameter with which you can set the travel on each turn and also the length of travel based on the coil length. Keep evolving the good work! 👍
@tookitogo4 жыл бұрын
Great project! I agree with the suggestions to add a tensioner. I’d also add some code that lets you enter the wire diameter and calculates the correct speed of the wire guide movement to produce really nice, tidy windings.

Awesome! In love with this and your toroidal spinner. One suggestion, maybe put a soft material to cover the metallic inner surface of the part that guides the wire...just to ensure that the enamel doesn't get scraped off. Hoping to one day make a version of both. If these aren't open source please consider doing so..best
@tookitogo4 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Teflon would be optimal, but another soft/waxy plastic like delrin (POM) or HDPE would work very well.
@railfilm5 жыл бұрын
Nice idea, but the realisation is very pure. The main thing is the stepper motor control is missing or not correct. The stepper motior should move corresponding the wire diameter, ie if you use 0,5 mm wire the stepper should move at every turn of the main axle by 0,5 mm. This should be a parameter before you start your machine.
@jesuseduardo56585 жыл бұрын
I like your point of view, at the beginning of the winding, the wire is too separate and even loose. An improvement in the wire guide must be done for control the tension and the direction of the wire, maybe using a better step motor...
@railfilm5 жыл бұрын
Jesús Eduardo yes, the stepper motor with the original worm is not fine enough for this job. Try to drive with the same motor a rod with M3-M6 thread. This will give you more finer ride. For the tension in wire you can use two pulleys on the springy arm in form of Z wire trace. The pulleys work also as a wire guide. This will compensate the initial tension changes. ( a small spring will provide the necessary tension). The motor shall move this element with the increments of the wire diameter. The movement is derivated from the rotation of the main axle ( from the counter).

@@railfilm what about the speed RATIO between the dc motor and stepper motor to provide accurate windings??
@railfilm4 жыл бұрын
Akshat Pande Hi exactly that is what I mean. On my machine both motors are stepper motors and there is an electronic gear between the two motors. The gear ratio is automatically calculated from the wire diameter, ie the wire guide moves on every revolution of the main motor by the size of diameter. It is still challenging with a very thin wire, I need to visit some company with the professional machine as however the wire is guided very exactly at thin wires (
@akshatpande16494 жыл бұрын
railfilm thanks for the reply,so basically u mean that the lead screw stepper motor has to move by one wire diameter and the winding stepper motor has to complete one full rotation ?

Use stepper motor to drive bobbin to get better control of turns/speed. Make better wire guide (See Gingery book on coil winder). Software to allow movement of wire guide in concert with turns, allows making 'universal banked' coils like Pie wound RF chokes. Software should know wire gauge (diameter, turns per inch) so wire guide will move in lock step with bobbin for tight windings. Good basic foundation, but needs above improvements.

do we need to calculate the speed ratio between ?? if so how to calculate that?

This was an awesome build, of its type, ingenious in its simplicity. May I suggest splitting threaded nuts to fit screws needed to be held in a vise, vertical from their threads, in this way you create a threaded clamp to hold screws in vise jaws. Using the modified threaded nuts rather than destroying the threads on the screw by placing the screws directly into the vise jaws.

The eye needs to be changed into a horizontal pulley bearing, and there needs to be another horizontal pulley bearing spring-loaded to keep the wire under tension from the source spool to the spindle (should look similar to a VCR tape deck)....and the source spool should not be fully free to spin, but maybe some cotton or other small friction just to keep tension on the line. This will allow the winding to be more accurate and compact.

Do you account for the extra length of wire required for 1 turn after the coil has reached the entire length run of the cylinder? There would be extra length that's required to create a turn after a full cylinder run? You'd have to account for the new diameter of this turn, which would be the original turn diameter + twice the diameter of the wire underneath the new run of coils, i believe. Please correct me if I am wrong here, as maybe this would be almost negligible? - Thanks.

Very nice project! Improvements could be to make sure the tension between feeder and coil is even over the whole winding process, so the windings sit tight on the coil. Also maybe you should feed the wire through a little piece of PTFE tube instead of the M6 screw, so you make sure that the coating of the wire is not damaged while fed through.

Would be smart to pay attention to hitting the walls of the coil bobbin, and the gauge of wire to make neater turns, as turns slipping between layers tend to reduce the magnetic field - resulting in weaker motors/generators.

Гарний станок. Але в налаштуваннях не завадило би мати можливість вказувати діаметр дроту, що намотується і межі намотування! Завдяки цим параметрам можна було би намотувати дріт різного діаметра без зазору - виток до витка. Good machine. But in the settings it would not hurt to be able to specify the diameter of the winding wire and the winding limits! Thanks to these parameters, it would be possible to wind a wire of different diameters without a gap - turn to turn.

Curious. I like the machine some. The little hole in the metal piece that you feed the wire through just seems risky that it will scrape the coating off your wire. I would just get a piece of plastic with a hole in it, epoxy it over that hole, and feed the wire through. Also, your linear rail is really running too fast. Thank you for this because now I know I will not buy one of those cheap linear slides. Really the wire should run through some sorta gentle pinch thing to create some tension. I bet with that it would almost correct for that linear slide if you slowed the slider down.
