I love that we still use dogs for what they’re supposed to be used for. Too many people have dogs just as pets and that’s fine but they forget all dogs were bred to work in some way. Terriers are amazing wee doggos! Solid work boys.

That is no longer true. There are now many dog breeds that were never intended to be anything but pets. Virtually all of them have significant health issues, though.

So enjoyable to see terriers doing what they do best! Once my westie caught a mouse that had got into my house, he was faster than the three cats that were in at the time, one quick shack and it was dead, he brought it to me as pleased as punch with himself!

I've got a rat terrier named Roscoe. One of the best dogs I've ever had. Every morning he looks in the mirror, adjusts his tie and asks himself, "how many grizzly bears to I want to take out today?". Little dog, big attitude. Terrier - from the Latin terra firma, or "the ground" because they're known for going down into rat, fox, rabbit, badger, etc. holes. Oh, an he hates squirrels. Good boy.

There out to be a tv show devoted to city ratting, especially. This is good but in the city people will bring a whole new dimension, kind of like the show COPS. Could you imagine a show about dogs ratting with the music from that show? It would be perfection. Successful ratting with dogs requires owners that know how to give dogs the cues. Good dog owner!

I wish I knew someone who has a rat problem. My dog would have a blast doing that. My dog is a JRT/BEAGLE and he loves to hunt. He's got a couple rabbits,a few mice,a bird. I don't encourage him to kill things. It's just his nature to want to catch small animals and he has a high prey drive. One time he sniffed out a large garter snake. Evidently he never seen a snake before,LOL. He hopped back and looked at me as if he was thinking where the hell are his legs. He left the snake alone.

Low growing, dense plantings bushes grown in masses are great hiding places for rats. If you know someone who is removing them they will surely have rats for your dogs to chase. People who store large amounts of hay or other livestock feed will always have a problem. Places where people dine outside are other great places. Open your eyes, the places where rats hide are everywhere. Ever watch shows on urban ratting? Go to town, even small towns there are likely to be rodent issues. I would suggest your dogs wear protective footwear and leashes while doing it in the city because of traffic issues, other dogs, people, food that might be bad for them, rat poison, etc. Learn to detect wild rats by smell and that will help you. Ask those who live in town, you'd be surprised. Additionally, always carry a bag for the dead rats so that you can tie off the bag and the fleas stay with the rat.

Hello Mr. Johnson I rescued a pregnant female terrier mix back in February 2020 ( she had a family but they really didn't care for her I always saw her out and about walking around in my neighborhood ) she had 11 puppies ( a week later ) I adopted them all out and I kept her. Her name is Sheila. Over the past months getting to know her, I notice how she dives into tall grass or thick grassy areas nose first like she smells a rat or mole or some type of wild ground animal - and she is full of energy and loves to run around and she is very quick. When I see her do this immediately I think " hmm she would be a great ratter" Question: Are your dogs vaccinated with any particular vaccination or given any type of shots to prevent diseases from being passed from the rats to your dogs? I live in Miami, Florida ( I wonder if I should just ask my local veterinarian this same question ) but since I am watching and enjoying your working terriers ratting I thought I would ask you. Thank you

Unfortunately, the average American (USA) will always complain and start with the "cruelty" to the "RATS" banners. Regardless, keep up the good work keeping your yard clean and rodent free of any diseases. Lastly, a old Greek adage states, "(Your) cough and money are impossible to hide" No one has a mule to drive but has no clue how to start it up. Keep them videos coming.
