Great video. Coming from Berlin, we are flying on to Lima with a stop in AMS. I understand that I have to go through passport control and security check between the Schengen Area and the Non-Schengen Area. But I have another question: What about the transfer gates T1 to T9 (e.g. at 3:58 and 4:44 in your video)? Do I have to go through specific counter there, or are they just numbered and it doesn't matter which one I use?
@JustinThailand7 ай бұрын
Yes, going from Non-Schengen to Schengen, you need to go through Security and Passport control. Going from Schengen to Non-Schengen you need to go through Passport control. I have never used or paid any attention to the T1-T9, I'm not 100% sure what that mean, but it might be transfer desk. If you have your boarding pass for the final destination, you just go to your departure gate.

Hi, when arriving inside the Schengen (EU) and traveling to a country outside Schengen, you will have to go through the Passport Control. I don't know the exact gate, but it will be either gate D, E, F, G or H. 1 hr 10 minutes will normally enough time. And there will be some airport staff at the passport control, so if you are running out of time, just tell them and they will let you through.

I’m flying to Istanbul but will have a 1 hour and 10 min layover in AMS. Will I have to do security check or passport check if I’m not going to stay in Amsterdam or will I just go to my gate? I never flown out of the country like this so it’s very new to me I don’t know if that will be enough time since boarding usually closes 15 mins before so I land to AMS at 10:30 and supposed to fly out to IST at 11:40

Thank you very much this has been so helpful! I'm flying next month from Frankfurt to Amsterdam and then to Mexico City. Do you perhaps know if I'll need some paper to "enter" the Netherlands, or do I even need it? Because I'm just connecting at AMS. I'm just scared what if they deny my entry to the Netherlands if I don't have some kind of paper or something. Does everyone have to go to F2? And is 1h35mins enough to catch my connection to Mexico City? Cheers!
@JustinThailand2 жыл бұрын
If you are only doing a transit, you don't need any paper. Since you are going to Mexico, you will have to go through the passport control. The F2 is for pre-screening of the documents required for your final destination. So this will be different for every country. So for Mexico, I don't know, there might not be any pre-screening at all, but I don't know this. Your transit time of 1 hour 35 minutes should be enough time. If there are a long queue in front of the passport control, they will let people with short time to boarding jump the queue. But if no delays you will have plenty of time.

Justin, this video is great...then...I realized, I have no clue on what to expect still....LOL....here is my situation. I normally go to the Cholchester UK every year, I fly direct from DTW (USA) to LHR. However...early next year I will be headed over to Norwich for about 3 weeks. I wanted to fly from DTW to NWI but no direct flights, So I can fly DTW via Delta, to AMS, then jump on KLM airline for my trip to Norwich (NWI)... I guess I have a few question if you are able to answer them and if you are even still looking at this thread. It looks like all fights out of AMS to NWI depart Gate D (for the delta/KLM) ticket I am looking at, so that is Schengen side (correct?). I am wondering if you have any insight as to where my arrival will be when I get to AMS? I am wondering if I arrive from the USA will it be on the Schengen Side, therefore no passport control just get off that jet and get on the other? I tried doing a flight follow of a Delta flight 132 from DTW to AMS but all it says on the app is where to pick up bags, it does not give me an arrival gate. Then looking at my flight back home from NWI to AMS Via KLM airline, I can pick either a 2 hour layover, or 5 hour layover, before jumping on the Delta Aircraft to fly back to DTW. I am assuming I should take the 5 hour layover, just incase I am delayed, and not sure where I arrive at in AMS and where I have to go to depart at AMS. Either way I am sure I can figure it out, your video was great!!!
@JustinThailand6 ай бұрын
Hi and thank you very much :) Ok, so the Gate D is sort of a mix Gate of both Schengen and Non-Scehngen, divided by the upper and lower floor. Since you are arriving from the US, I'm pretty sure you will arrive at the Non-Schengen area of the airport. Now, since UK has left the EU, and Schengen treaty, your departure will probably be from the Non-Schengen area. Regarding your 2 and 5 hour layover, it's always nice to have enough time to do the transit :) Airlines normally has 45 minutes as a minimum. My longest transit in Schiphol was done in 42 minutes, and that include the passport control. So 2 hour should be enough time to do a transit, but you are absolutely correct, if some delays occur its always good to have some extra time :)

Hi, you just follow All Gates/ Transit T2-T9, that will take you to the security control. After security control you turn left or right depending on your gate. But rumours has it, coming from US you don't have to go through the security control. Hi Claire and thank you :) The mess has mostly been outside of the airport, for passengers entering the airport. The latest reports I been getting, is there hardly any queue at all. But this can change during busy times. If you are running late, just tell the staff at the passport control, they will check your boarding pass and let you through if you are running late. About the security control, I am not sure now. If KLM tell you don't have to go through the security control, then they should be right about that. But I thought everyone arriving in the Non Schengen had to go through the security control, but might not apply for UK then. So Im not sure now :) But, as you said, you will have to pass through the passportcontrol. 1 hour and 20 minutes should be enough time for transit. My longest transit walk was in 40 minutes, and that includes security control, passport control and I had to walk to the far end of the airport for my connecting flight :) So you will be ok :)

@@grantlalala Hi Grant. You will be ok. Even though the flight to Amsterdam says 1 hour 20 the flight only takes an hour so you have extra time! You will only have to go through passport control. It takes about 10 minutes (walking fast) to get to the gate you need. Passport queues may be up to 30 minutes long, but if you have 30 minutes left before your flight there are plenty of staff around asking and they will move you to the front of the queue. The shortest window I've had was 1 hour 5 and it felt like I was waiting around ages in the gate before I boarded. KLM aren't quick at getting people on the plane. My last 3 flights I haven't boarded until about 10 minutes before the flight is due to depart. My advice is to sit in an aisle seat near the front to get off quick, walk fast to your gate. You will be ok as the ticket wouldn't be sold if the connection isn't doable. hello!! im french and im a minor(17). im soon going to take a flight from lyon to osaka but problem is that i have only a 55min stopover at this amsterdam airport. in your video, (2:31), it is written that 16+ people can pass through the automatic passport control. do you think, if, as a minor, i do this passport procedure instead of doing the queue, i will have the time to catch my flight? from other videos that i saw, lyon can lend to AMS via gate B and tokyo (idk about osaka, i just assume osaka is in the same gate as tokyo) in gate F? im really stressed i wont make it, especially for my first time alone in the plane. thank you for your answer it would mean the world to me😭!!

Normally, 55 minutes is enough time to make the transit :) When arriving the passport control, if you are running late, there is a fast track lane for passenger with a short transit. Just look for the ground staff, but they will check your boarding pass to see if you are actually running late :)

The gate arrivals tend to change all the time, but you can check Flightradar24, and then find your flight number. This will show you previous arrival gates. Your last question, I can't give you a certain answer, because im not 100% sure, but I do think the counting will start when you enter the Schengen area since this is the port of entry, and you will get the passport stamped here.

Normally, they will do their best to let you reach your flight, but sometimes they will have to leave without the passenger for different reasons as slot times, and more. @JustinThailand Жыл бұрын
You will probably reach your gate in time, but I understand your worries :) If you miss your flight, the airline will normally rebook you automatically, and then send you an sms or/and email. But anyways, you will have no problem finding a servicedesk, if not, just ask some airport staff, there are a lot airport staff throughout the airport. At the servicedesk, you just give them your boarding card, and they will find the first available flight to Atlanta for you. They will most often check their own flights, then they will check the alliance they are a member of. If they give you a new flight the next day, just ask them for hotel and transport. Sometimes you will get a voucher for hotel and taxi/bus, but sometimes you will have to pay by yourself, and then claim for refund through their websites. Normally an easy prosess. But you not have to worry, missed connection is normal for all airliners, and this is mostly taken good care of. So don't worry. When you arrive at Schiphol Airport, and you arrive at the passport control, if its crowded, and you running out of time, just look for the ground staff, If I don't remember wrong now, they have yellow shirts on, make contact and tell them you are running late, they will then check your boarding card, and let you pass the queue if you are late :) Most probably will you be ok :) And you are not bothering me, just ask, and if you have more question, or something happens, just ask, and I will do what I can to help :) Have nice flight :)

I am so anxious because of the delays in Schipol, but this video gave me some reassurance! I'm traveling from New York to Bangkok, stopping at Chopin and Schipol (JFK-WAW-AMS-BKK, same ticket). If I understood correctly, I'd land from WAW to AMS on the Schengen side, and I just need to pass through passport control to go to the non-Schengen side. Is that correct? I would not need to collect my check-in luggage from the WAW-AMS segment to check them in again for the AMS-BKK leg of the flight, right? Is there a separate passport control lane for business class travelers? I have 2 hours and 45 minutes of ground time in AMS. Would that be enough? Thanks in advance for your response, Justin!
@JustinThailand2 жыл бұрын
Hi :) I do belive your flight will be like this : During Check In at New York, tell them to check your luggage and issue Boarding Pass to the final destination, Bangkok. So on your first flight to WAW, I do think you will do the transit in the Non-Schengen area of the airport. Look for the signs for Transit Non-Scengen. Arriving in AMS you will do the same, transiting in the Non Schengen area. That means that you don't have to go through any passport control, but you will have to go through the security control in AMS, in WAW I don't know. There are fast track lanes for business class travelers at AMS. 2 hours 45 minutes will normally be enough time for transit. The latest report I got from AMS, is there that there is almost no queues inside the airport. Hoped it helped a little :) Have a nice flight and do come back and tell how it turned out.

You don't need any transit visa for doing a transit in Schiphol. Depending on where you going, they might check your passport and visa requirements for your final destination before you boarding the plane. For your transit, you will arrive at the Non-Schengen Area of the airport, and will have to go through the security and passport control since you are entering the Schengen Area of the airport. Entering Schengen means you need a valid visa for Schengen or your arrival country. Since you are a dual national you probably have a valid visa already.

The transfer is 2,5hrs, but with all the issues the airport is having, I’m a little nervous that it won’t be enough time. Do you think that’s enough time? And I won’t have to go trough security then, only passport control, right? Thanks in advance :)
@JustinThailand2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle and thank you :) Yes, 2,5 hr will be enough time :) And you are correct, you will only go through the passport control and not the security control. If you for some reason should be late, just tell the ground staff and they will let you bypass the queue :)

Hi, I'm arriving from Newcastle for a departure to Beijing but transfer is only 50 mins, do you think that's enough time?
@JustinThailand Жыл бұрын
Yes, normally, if no delays, 50 minutes will be enough. You only have to go through the passport control, and if if you are running late, just tell the ground staff there, and they will let you bypass the queue :) Have a nice flight :)

Hey, i am flying from Vienna to Amsterdam (50 min Delay) then to LA - do you think 50 min is enough ? I am a bit nervous
@JustinThailand11 ай бұрын
Normally, if no delays, 50 minutes will be enough. You only have to go through the passport control. If you running late, just contact the ground staff at the passport control, and if you are late, they will let you pass the queue. Since you are travelling to US, there might be a security control at the gate just before boarding.

Please I want to go from Copenhagen to Amsterdam and then Amsterdam to Canada What is the gate number and what will be the directions at the airport It is the first time and I travel alone
@JustinThailand2 жыл бұрын
Gate number changes all the time, but you will land at the Concourse B, C or D. From you arrival gate, you just follow the signs for "All transit". If you are going to Canada, you flight will most likely leave from the Concourse D, E, F or G. But don't worry, Schiphol is big, but easy to navigate. As you come out from your plane, just look for the monitors showing the flights. Find your flight, and look for which concourse you plane is leaving from. If it is e.g. Concourse F, you just follow the sign for gates F. Its easy. When you halfway, you will have to go through the passport control.

what about terminal 1/2/3 in the airport?
@JustinThailand8 ай бұрын
Im not sure what you mean, what do you want to know ?
@Xxxxxxxxxxcxccc8 ай бұрын
@@JustinThailand do they have different terminals in the airport?
@JustinThailand8 ай бұрын
Ahh ok :) No, what you see is what you get. What you see in this video is the map of Schiphol Airport, and it's divided by Schengen and Non-Schengen, and the concourses running from A to G. There are zones inside the airport called Lounge 1, 2, 3 and 4, but it's not that relevant for transit, that's just to divide the different areas of the airport into zones. Hope this helped :)

@@JustinThailand as long as i go to my date (D84/C24 etc), it should be correct right? is 2 hour layover too short?
@JustinThailand8 ай бұрын
:) again, Im not sure what you are asking me :) You can move freely between the concourses, but when enter/exit the Schengen border, you will have to go through the passport control. Yes, 2 hour is enough time to do transit.

Hi Justin I am travelling with KLM from Malta to IAD (Dulles International, Washington DC) do I need to go through passport control and also where do I do my connecting flight from
@JustinThailand Жыл бұрын
Hi :) Yes, you will probably have to go through the passport control since you arrive inside the Schengen, and leave the Schengen area for departure US. Your arrival will be at the concourse B,C or D, and you will probably leave from concourse E or F :) But I can't be sure as this change all the time. Schiphol Airport is an easy airport to navigate.

@@JustinThailand thank you as now heading from Gozo on Ferry to Malta Airport keeping my fingers crossed leaves on time here as I have 2 hr turn round

@@JustinThailand I also saw a video that had 2 different passport controls obviously but the video showed one for transfers as well is that the case
@JustinThailand Жыл бұрын
Yes, you are in transit, and will use the passport control inside the departure-area. As you disembark the plane, you will see monitors along your way showing your departure gate. From there, just follow the signs, and you will automatically come to the passport area for enter the Non-Schengen area. If you are delayed, and running out of time, just tell the staff at the passport control, and they will let you pass the queue :) But they will check your boarding pass to see if its true or not ;) But if you have 2 hours for transit, you will be fine :) Have a nice flight :)

Hi! I’m traveling from Norway and have 1,20 hours layover to non-Schengen (Thailand) is it enough time for me to get to the next flight? Do I have to go to the passport control, customs and security check? Thank you so much 😊

I have an EU passport will it be quick? But my mom has non-EU passport will 1.20 hours enough
@JustinThailand6 күн бұрын
Ok, so..... Normally, if no delays, 1 hour 20 minutes will be enough. You will have to go through the passport control. You don't have to go through any custom or security control :) I will also answer your next question down below :)
@JustinThailand6 күн бұрын
Yes, normally EU is quick. Non Eu Passport have to through the ALL PASSPORTS lane, this can sometimes be slow. But here is a good tip to you and your mom; If you are running late, when you arrive at the Passport control, look for the Staff, I think they have yellow sweaters, tell them that you are running late, they will check your boarding pass, and if you are late, they will guide you through and bypass the queue :) But, if you're not late, they will not do so :) Have a nice trip to Thailand :)
