The baby was stuck so he chose between losing them both or trying to save the baby....he chose to try and save the baby and thebsafest way to do that was to cut him out while the mother was still alive so it was just very traumatizing

Right, but it's important to note that the alternative was to give the woman he loved a more graceful and less painful death. It's clear the ONLY reason he chose to save the baby was the hope of putting an end to the realm squabbles of him not having an heir, as a duty to his throne. I think it's implied he would have otherwise 100% let his wife make the decision.

This is the authentic royal hunt that GRR Martin didn't get in GOT, but demanded for this. Also, the hunt here is very symbolic. The stag is tied up, pulled in all directions, and is being ceremoniously killed for its symbolic power AND its glorious "crown". The stag is the King and he knows it. He is also relieved that it is not the white stag, which would have signified that the crown should go to Aegon. He was drinking and tortured through the whole hunt because he was dreading that it would be the white stag. And hunts are brutal. It's not about putting the animal out of its misery (and if you're missing the last two fingers of your hand, then you lose the power of that hand -- try it). Rhaenyra's brutal and bloody killing of the boar is foreshadowing, especially in light of her comment that she hates how boars squeal like children.

The choice was different than you think. Watch it again closely. It was either to let his wife with the Gods which most likely would have killed both his wife and the unborn child (since they had reached the limit of their craft), or save the child while letting his wife go, by cutting through her womb to save the unborn child. It was terrible. He never had the choice to save his wife. His wife was done for either way.

The second birthday was celebrated greatly because it meant it he was no longer a infant and how he considered a child and because as you probably know medieval times were especially hard on infants and would die very often, and is probably why everyone thought why waited and he would name him on his 2nd birthday, in the books in the north of the walls Gilly hasn’t even named her child and said they actually name them on their second birthday because it’s bad long to name them before

This is how a King like Henry VIII would have hunted, allowed to strike the final blow against a tethered prey, There would be hundreds of coutiers glamping through the woods with knights and paid-for ladies trailing behind. Seeing Robert Baratheon *tramping* through the woods with his brother, Barristan Selmy and Lancel Lannister and calling it a royal hunt was a huge disappointment. Yes, measuring our weight in stones is weird but we're used to it. We 'know' what 12st is, whereas we have no clue about 168lb. (Long ime since I've seen 12 stone, he mutters to himself . . . . ) Watching this during work lunch break, have to go now. May add more later! Can't wait for the end scene!

The thing is, she would have to wait nearly 2 decades before they had any hope of producing an heir. By that time Rhaenyra would be well into her 30's. I think Otto suggested it for a few reasons. 1. To weaken Rhaenyra's claim and further strengthen Aegon's claim 2. To prevent Rhaenyra from marrying and making heirs 3. If Rhaenyra had to wait many years before going through pregnancy, then there would be a lower likelihood for healthy children and (because Otto is a snake) it's possible she would die in child bed. Then Aegon would be free to remarry and Otto would have full and complete control over his grandson and the crown. Also, in the time before an heir could be produced, Rhaenyra would be surrounded on all sides by Hightowers. Otto would likely use every opportunity to sow discord between Rhaenyra and Aegon, cut off her allies, and find ways to call Rhaenyra's virtue into question. In that way he could discredit Rhaenyra, and since Aegon would be future consort it would be one more step up and he would be king. Otto, "you f*cking traitor!"

Regarding the early-ness of the battle in comparison to GOT.. Season 1 GOT was not a guarantee.. HOTD was given a WAY bigger budget for season 1.. they KNEW what the demand was.. it’s wasn’t too risky to go big early.. it was too risky for season 1 GOT

the stone measurement has always confused me too, like how big is the stone, stones vary in size and weight so like how s it a measurement, i googled it and 1 stone is equal to 14 pounds and it just raises more questions..

When Daemon attacked the messenger i thought oh the part he just read was foul. The moment hear what Viserys wrote the moment he basically said the aide would bring the victory that has evaded us key word being US. Daemon at that moment is think the balls on this mf’r the free cities are helping a rebellion against the 7 kingdoms they have been killing people in his kingdom yet he doesn’t even care. Remember the scene in the first episode where Daemon was worried about the small folk aka the subjects who have no guard to protect them have been telling Daemon that criminals have been hurting them everybody knows but they do nothing about it. Daemon is thinking oh now u care about the people in ur kingdom man kick rocks. Daemon made common men into being the gold cloaks they were the very same small folk Daemon was talking about they want their people to be safe they know the criminals so damn chose men who actually give a damn about the small folk. Viserys is a TRASH king.

I'm curious. If you'd have watched this first, then watched Game of Thrones, Would Dany's obsession about her fight to become Queen and fear that someone would take the throne she was fighting to get made more sense? (It was to the point of paranoia that someone would deny her what she sought). People in this story always chose males over females. Should Game of Thrones have included more history that showed that Women were always passed over for a male King?
