Love from the UK. So some context for the writing question. Bas is a professionally trained musician (brass) so he has a higher level of understanding when it comes to cadence. They write the bars themselves but their grandkids basically act as editors so the phrases and slang are up to date. So with that I'd say they write themselves with some help to keep current Also check out Browns. IMO their best track. From bars to flow to beat. That beat is something special
@thetalantonx
@thetalantonx 3 ай бұрын
So 100% confirmed facts - Nine and Dex are 91 Shots and Handsome Dexter. They are the producers for Pete & Bas, however on their visit to Plugged in with Fumez primary producing credit goes to Fumez with 91 Shots on beat producing. The behind the scenes video with Fumez shows Bas doing like 12 takes until he hits his long run to his own satisfaction. Additionally Pete & Bas do live shows, and when they do live shows they have their producers Nine and Dex with them. There are videos of concert performances in the UK with Pete & Bas, and in one video the power goes out and they perform acapella. Pete & Bas use stage last names. Lore, unconfirmed but plausible - Nine and Dex are their grandsons and on top of producing help with references and bars but the concepts come from Pete & Bas. Plausible because the references that Pete & Bas make reference more than just the current moment, they go deep into musical, cultural, and criminal history. They use a mix of Cockney Rhyming Slang and UK Drill Slang, much more than Nine and Dex do in their own work. Interesting note on timing - Nine and Dex started releasing their own project shortly after Pete's skin cancer scare and treatment. You hear Pete talking about his hopes and desires in the opening of Longthorne Shotgun.

@@janesmith1008 That's the lore, the story behind them. Also known as a kayfabe. I tried very hard with my comment to sort out the confirmed truth from the stories we fans tell or a projected storyline. Knowing Bas's real name and other occupation(s) is something that takes some research and I've noticed other people not doxxing him so I've not repeated what I've found.

Some of the slang is older than I am and it's sort of thing you just don't hear anymore. That's almost certainly coming from the old geezers. And yes, Pete was a postie (mailman to you over there) but it's a little more mixed with Bas. They're both from South London which includes Brixton, allegedly where UK Drill started, so they're going to sound similar to others from there. Personally I reckon they're getting a good chunk of help but the ideas are coming from an older generation, reminds me of some of the blokes I knew as a teenager. Sat quietly in the pub, telling tall tales and *nobody* messed with them. I didn't know anything about Drill before seeing these two pop up, I'm just an old goth and metalhead but the sound just grabbed me and I'm happy it did :)

True - cockney rhyming slang is wild. As an American that watches a ton of British TV and movies, that is probably the only thing in that culture that really throws me for a loop. They obviously help them out alot with beats and flows but at the end of the day Pete and Bas are awesome and they're able to do this. They use alot more old English slangs and saying Nine and Dex use more new pop culture references and obviously understand Hip Hop more. Both groups are amazing.

nah man.. i still love these guys, but the sindhu channel that posts all of Pete n Bass is owned by Nine and Dex (among others), and they previously did the same thing with 'Frank and Murray' but it didn't work quite as well as this one did. Internet sleuths tracked down an old ad they posted for some older actors to play characters and the description matched what this became. Also, when these guys DO rap live, without backing tracks and such, they don't sound like they do on produced tracks. They don't have nearly the same flow and cadence, and their voices sound different. Pete isn't nearly as raspy, and Bas isn't as deep or.. idk how to describe his accent but it's a bit different. I think they started out 100% lip synching, but they've been practicing to rap for a few years now so they can pull off a decent performance themselves to help sell the whole idea, but it sounds very different than their produced tracks. Lastly, if you actually go listen to Nine n Dex's songs, they are almost the exact same style. Flow, cadence, music and lyrics.

Doesn't matter to me that they aren't writing the verses 100% by themselves - they still need to perform those bars and the flows are impeccable. That's not easy to do, even when you're in your 20's.

This is just so cool. I love Krizz, having come across him in Target Practice. You do realise that you have introduced him to the Pete and Bas rabbit hole......... They are East Enders and cockneys (the bar - ringing the Bow bells - if you are born with the sound of the St Mary le bow bells, then you are a true cockney) - and they will have grown up around cockney rhyming slang Again - there is a rich history that they will have lived through, of the east end gangs - including the Krays - so whether a real part of gangs, or on the periphery - they have a past to draw on. Also, Bas has been a professional musician - sounds like in one interview I heard, he worked with a couple of well known bands, and he also played cruise ships And they have been at this for 7 years - they are not stupid, so they will have been learning their rapping skills in the same way as anyone else - so they might not write everything -but they will be more than sitting there waiting to be told what to rap Pete and bas performing at Manchester this year........kzbin.infoWM5F3afXZkM kzbin.infofV6s24iKwN0..........irrepressible!!! Above all - thanks Mr Boyd for doing this reaction - and thanks Krizz Kaliko for your response - Absolutely priceless. Love to all from the UK

So its their kids and grandkids who share some of the latest trends, and these boys are from the East End of London... so they are natural quick talkers - put the two together and this is what you get. Love the work you're bringing here fella and thoroughly enjoyed watching along with you guys!

In answer to a question asked by the guys, as far as the way they speak, the accent and use of words is COMPLETLY authentic South London. If you go to any of the pubs down there where the old geezers hang out, you will hear this exact manner of speech, accent, cadence and all of it. These guys are 100% authentic. I can't vouch for who writes or whatever. But they are as real as it gets. Take a trip down there before this generation is gone.
