As a punk rocker in the late seventies/ early eighties I still loved a bit of Abba😜

Always choose the studio versions first.
@chelseacharger2 жыл бұрын
Yes. And the longer album versions too. Not the shortened 'single' edits. Though there are some excellent live ABBA performances that are arguably as good as the studio originals.

Wrong version. This is a live version with poor keyboards. The studio version pops with a synthesizer.

It gives me great pleasure to see you enjoy the songs of ABBA ABBA was a very talented and versatile group: two excellent musicians songwriters (guitarist Björn & pianist Benny) two top female singers like blonde Agnetha & brunette Frida (before ABBA they each had hers solo career in Sweden with success, specialy Agnetha) remember that ABBA is an acrostic with initials of your first names, and was two couples from 1969: blond singer Agnetha & guitarist Björn; pianist Benny & brunette singer A.Frida Agnetha & Björn split at end 1979 Benny & Frida at begining of 1981 "Gimme gimme gimme (a man after midnight)" is a song influenced by American disco, after the success of Bee Gees and the soundtrack of the movie 'Saturday night fever " In this song you can see part of the volume and range of voice that the blonde Agnetha has ABBA was preparing his 1979 Tour of America and Europe, in the previous They recorded this song and filmed an official video with all the group as recording session The introduction and the instrumental ending, that characteristic sound of Benny's keyboards, is what Madonna used for her well-known hit "Hung Up" (with the permission of the composers Björn and Benny, granting them share the credits) This is a live perfomance in the Américan Europe Tour September/November 1979, that begin in Canada and ending in Ireland Thank you again for these video See you in the next GOD bless you My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina

The Swedish summer nights are only a few hours, a couple of interludes and you'd be fine :) On the other hand the longest night in Winter is around 18 hours, now that is some loving. Life and joy, that is what ABBA still brings.

Fun fact; nearly 40 years after the group went on to other projects, they have released a new album: "Voyage". And they have set up a show in London, with digital "ABBA-tars" on stage. I'm going there to see it at the end of the month. Can't wait :-)

Oh, definitely a dirty song. Many a young man would have traded his very soul to have been Agnetha Fältskog's man after midnight. For songwriters operating in a second language, they did come up with some memorable lyrics. I would suggest one of their quieter songs next, 'The Day Before You Came'. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on that. I'm not sure you'd find a concert version - I just discovered that they did fewer than 100 concerts in their whole career. I appreciate you like to play the live versions, but they're not always the best: they played this one at a breakneck speed, as if they had to get out to catch the 9.30 bus to Uppsala.

Their gimmick was writing in a minor key to switch to the major and back unexpectedly. The piano/keyboard riff has been sampled many times - Madonna did it for one!.... and those costumes! Ah, Agnetha - the one that got away!
@CatapultGaming2 жыл бұрын
That bit has NOT been sampled a lot. None of their stuff has, they don't let people. You can go read about how Madonna had to BEG them to let her use it.
