Your voice is so smooth, it feels like NPR talking about Rage Against the Machine, and I totally dig that.

I dig his voice and his opinions, but comparing him to a propaganda outlet is an insult. NPR vomits up elitist garbage and then has the nerve to ask for listener donations. They're worse than CNN.
@gabrielgray83
@gabrielgray83 3 жыл бұрын
@@luluhu7574 Honestly, that's not what I've heard on NPR. It's typically a mix of educational programming and radio programs that support their communities. Plus Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me, which is more lighthearted and really tends to target your everyman types. They just recently discussed how Progressive prosecutors who pursue lighter sentences and a less punitive system overall tend to see decreased crime rates and continue winning reelection as a result. And they ask for donations because of reduced funding for public radio, leading to their content catering more to their listeners than political elites. CNN, however, produces content to suit their advertisers, because that's where they get most of their funding.

I am a native son, born of zapata guns. Native son was also one of writer James Baldwins more famous works. A bank and s church, a myth and a hearse. The myth is almost certainly the American Dream. The widow pig parrot is Maureen Faulkner, who campaigned to execute mumia. Love your reactions to ratm. I dont think I've ever seen anyone catch so much meaning on a single listen of these songs.

My interpretation of the "mall - loan" line is that Zach's referring to consumerism/materialism, and it puts many people in the poverty house when they don't understand money, just buying everything on their credit cards, etc.

The way you are able to analyze these tracks (not only RAtM!), and set them into the broader context, drawing upon a wast knowledge of history, it's unique. By now, you've fully earned your stripes, and should just as well mark your videos "reactions and analysis". Another great reaction. :) The band have always been very vocal supporters of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (particularlly Zack and Tom). the black flag with a red star they have on stage and on some of their stage clothing specifically represents the Zapatista's. If you're interested there's a 10 minute youtube clip from a documentary featuring Zack entitled: "Zack de la Rocha y el Movimiento Zapatista EZ★LN (HD)". There's also a video on RATM's official youtube channel entitled "Rage Against The Machine - Interview with Marcos (from The Battle Of Mexico City)" "And the riot be the rhyme of the unheard" is a riff on a quote from a Martin Luther King. Jr speech in which he said "a riot is the voice of the unheard". In recent year's I've seen that quote get misused to condone violence, but upon listening to the full speech, King was clearly speaking out against riots, whilst also drawing attention to the roots of why they occur.

You were pretty much right on the money, The Zapatista Army of National Liberation (Ejericito Zapatista de Liberacion Nacional, EZLN), often referred to as the Zapatistas. Excuse any misspelling I'm a little rusty on my Spanish. The flag you see at many of there shows, the red star on a field of black, and also on several of their albums, is the official flag of the Zapatista Army. Back in the day, and I'm sure today, the whole band supported them but especially Zack, he used to fly down to Chiapas, the area they control in Southern Mexico, every time the band was on a break, and spend a month or two. Don't quote me, but I believe his father might have been an early Member of the Zapatista or some other large movement. I do know that EZLN came to be in a big part due to NAFTA and the good ol' us sticking their nose into Mexico's business, right after they spent sooo many years fighting for their independence, gaining land rights, and an actual constitution affording them rights. Most swept away with a stroke of a pen.

Rage teach you more about social injustice and inequality than most other bands. To be fair the Manic Street Preachers pointed me in some good directions with their early records. Richey was quite spot on with his history and knowledge. It would be interesting to see you react to Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayit'sworldwouldfallapart by the Manics.

"There's a bank There's a church a myth and a hearse A mall and a loan a child dead at birth There's a widow pig parrot A rebel to tame A whitehooded judge A syringe and a vein." I think these are different negative characteristics of colonialism in general, and America's colonialism in particular. America imports their financial system to exploit the poor (A bank), their religion via missionaries (a church), the myth of American cultural supremacy, and death (a hearse). The next line concerns consumerism (a mall), debt (a loan), and death again. A widow (wives of dead fighters), you nailed pig parrot, and they create terrorists and reactionaries with their imperialism (a rebel to tame). They institute racist judiciary/laws (a white hooded judge, (think Israel in particular here)) and execute people (a syringe and a vein). The last few lines also probably directly reference Mumia as well.

I always interpreted "syringe in a vein" to suggest how the police were responsible for the drug issues and drug wars. Similar to CIA, where Zack/KRS-One say "you claim I'm selling crack, but you be doing that (you know the cops, they got a network for the toxic rock)"
@des-trina

@@Divinevert That's a very reasonable interpretation as well.

Widow pig I believe refers to Faulkner's(cop Mumia was found guilty of killing) wife attacking him and repeating the lies the police said against him to convict him.

Bro, I love your reviews, but really wish you'd pick better audios; i.e. Lateralus by Tool, Killing In The Name and Calm Like A Bomb by Rage. Calm Like A Bomb with its groove and bass line deserved a much better recording than this one. Why not just stick to the original tracks for a first time listen?

Don't think it's his doin. I'm not sure but it seems to be the paid navigation, trying to keep him from gaining ground. You can tell by choice of selections, both song and vid. I mean the Killing In The Name Of selection. Omg, never even knew that existed. Lol you can tell, it's like one selection after the other. You know true fans watch and are like wth, then gone. Seen channel after channel demise from this. Can talk till blue in the face, but paid will always prevail.

@@pnshr88 Sorry, not sure what you mean by the "paid navigation"? Can you please explain? I've seen plenty of other reaction channels use studio versions or official videos of songs. And for a live version, there's a much better quality version of this song posted.

@@pnshr88 can you clarify again? Do you mean a paid donator of LBoyd is paying him to listen to shitty live versions rather than the album tracks, so as to somehow steer him away from getting asks for this kind of stuff because Rage fans will unsub?

The riot being the rhyme of the unheard I think is a direct reference to Martin Luther King who said that a riot is the voice of the unheard. So a rhyme (lyric/words/music) is equivalent to the voice.
