She didn't go so far into the '80s. That's because the junky music industry gave us junky Madonna and music and lyrical content took a downward turn. Sex sex sex and sex instead of true love songs. Can you imagine Karen Carpenter or Olivia Newton-John singing the trash Madonna sang? Nope.

@@lisawentworth6831 Spot on, thanks for mentioning that. A Grammy winner and all they care about in Grease? lol. People are NOT looking at the full picture of Olivia's career. She was one of the best all around singers of her time, tone, vibrato, loud and soft, range, different styles...she did it all. With a bog smile on her face...screw the pop opera divas, this is what it's about...the song. Her first top ten hit in the US was 1973, Let Me Be There. went to #6 on Billboard.

@@thomastimlin1724 thanks .. well, I'm an information girl. I pulled up a documentary on Olivia, and saw her career started in the 60s when she was a teen. This is for the guy who made this reaction video, and doesn't seem familiar with her movies (especially 'Grease', where this song was featured) or her music, you really need to watch her movies, and listen to more of her music, she was a phenomenal actress, singer, and human being. The world just lost her last week, after battling cancer for 30 years. And there is hope in the movie, when she sings 'Hopelessly Devoted To You' because if you haven't watched the original 'Grease', you need to, because you'll understand everything Olivia Newton John's character 'Sandy' and John Travolta's character, 'Danny' had a summer romance, and things got complicated after school resumes, but they end up together. You need to watch this, the crazy movie 'Xanadu' (she sings the song of the same name), her songs 'Physical', 'I Honestly Love You', and much more! She was amazing, and the world is mourning her.

“Hopelessly devoted to You” played seemingly ( to me, anyway) on loop over our brand new stereo system in our brand new field house that Summer. Thanks to Olivia for helping us Texas farm boys ( we still had a few then ) through those brutal weeks of two a day football practice in North Texas. I would not trade the memory, (every single time I hear this song - to this very day) as I sat with my back to the field house in a tiny sliver of shade, squinting out at the heat distorted chalk lines, getting ready to go again and see what new torture our new Coach had devised for us, and then hearing the lyrics“ hold on to the end, that’s just what I intend to do…” rising and falling with the opening and closing field house door, of the thought that this madness just might NOT ever end…😵‍💫. But we mostly held on, and most made it to the end…thanks again ONJ…virtually every lyric rang true in some way, signifying that teams relationship with football that particular year.

Her album sales were in excess of 100 million copies. She was a force to be reckoned with and really blew the public away with 'Let's Get Physical', a video that began the workout genre videos that so many others emulated. Had she gotten the full breast removal procedure instead of the partial, perhaps she wouldn't have had a recurrence. Angelina Jolie was smart enough to do it when she realized breast cancer was so prevalent in her family history.

One should be aware of the context of this song in the overall story of the musical "Grease" There are transformations of both her "goody two shoes" character and the "bad boy" that she is in love with to some sort of middle ground between their characters. Ms. John was very well cast for the role of Sandy. May she rest in peace.

Loved your reaction. She's British born but moved to Australia at five. She was batting breast cancer for 30 years she just finally passed away a week ago at her home in California. She played sandy in grease this is the song she sang in the movie. Rest in peace beautiful

Have you ever heard one person say anything bad about Olivia in her 50 years in show business? How rare a person she was. My heart is broken.

This is a FIRE performance! It is a performance from the movie GREASE, It was on the charts forever. So glad to hear that a new generation can appreciate the massive talent that she was, no auto-tune just natural talent! I had the great pleasure of meeting her at a cocktail party 11 years ago. So lovely, so beautiful and so down to earth! RIP to this angel among us, for way too brief a time!!! She sold 100 million albums!

I saw her on the Midnight Special, and then my parents took us to the drive in in 1977 to see Grease, and I knew I was in love with Olivia. I was 6 years old, and she had me for life. Her voice is golden.

You need to see her play Sandy in the musical Grease which is where this song is from. Her and John Travolta played the bad boy to her good girl. It was a hit and came out in 1978

I think Olivia represented and occupied a very sunny, wholesome area of our collective psyche. She always appealed to what we joyfully gravitated toward in ourselves. Will miss her, but thankfully we'll always have the recordings.

I was a kid, and my dance studio was doing Grease, so I was introduced to the movie. This was one of many songs I'd end up singing all the time, and one of the main ones I will always remember her for

Why would this be the first time hearing this lovely song? Grease came out well over 40 years ago, plays on TV all the time, and it was always a popular song. You'd have to live in a cave not to know it

She just passed away on Monday, and is one of the biggest music stars we had during the 70's and 80's. She starred in "Grease", the biggest grossing musical film in history, and in Xanadu, and other films.

My youngest was 18 months old when I gave her big sister the movie Grease for Christmas. The baby thought it was hers and watched it at least 3 times a day. After a week she played and sang everyone’s role’s in the movie. We all just wanted to watch Olivia and John. Olivia was always a happy and gracious women that will sadly be missed. Her music and her Cancer treatment Centre in Melbourne are great reminders of who she was. Thank you.
