This would get an A+ in the Inter-Galactic Music Conservatory for Gods, if such an institution existed, or a Grammy - which it did. Now admittedly, I don't know most of the people in the opening, but some of them are: Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Hans Zimmer, Steve Vai, Chris Martin (Coldplay), David Crosby, Suzie Collier (his mother). They weren't "sent" to this project. They are actually in his close circle - he just asked them and they were more than happy to take part.

The reason he sounds like an arcapella singer and right on the note is because he has perfect pitch down to the microtone, he also harmonises perfectly in the harmonic series in this song since he isn't bound by the slightly skew tuning that makes a piano work. It just sounds right in a way that few songs do

Ok… about the intro… Jacob sent an email to approximately 50-100 musician friends asking them to send back a file of them singing the word “Moon”… among them Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and the the late David Crosby. JC then took the returned files and arranged them in Logic and what you see is the end result of more meticulous work by Jacob. Jacob Collier is a multi-grammy award winning composer/arranger/multi-instrumentalist/producer/genius. Every tune you see of his will have a similar effect. Check out the video he made that got Quincy Jones’ attention: JC’s cover of “Don’t You Worry ‘bout a Thing”.

A wonderful reaction, thanks. Please do react to more Jacob. Jacob was first discovered by the amazing KZbin videos he put out as a teenager. People who understood what he was doing were blown away. The opening scene in "Moon River" contains friends who he contacted and asked to send him them singing-I think-a C. There are many well known musicians in that opening including Herbie Hancock, Steve Vai, Chris Martin, Quincy Jones, Graham Nash, his Mom (a respected classical violinist and conductor) you get the idea. The arc of Jacob's music is constantly evolving as he evolves but whatever he ends up doing could only have been done by him. I noticed a couple of other commenters mention "All Night Long" and I would also heartily recommend that as well worthy of a reaction. It too is epic-though in an entirely different way-it never fails to put a smile on my face and it would be a delight to see you do a reaction to that. Thanks again for this quality, thoughtful effort.

The opening “Moons” were all submitted by his friends ranging from Steve Vai to Quincy Jones to his own Mom. Once the song starts it’s 5,000 separate tracks of Jacob harmonizing with himself. There are some negative harmonies and serious music theory genius going on. It’s a masterpiece. The only note that isn’t him is one high C from his sister. The Logic Session breakdown of him recording this is epic too as he explains the entire thing. Check out his insane playing capabilities too. Try All Of My Heart Live In Toronto on for size. This is a thrill, to watch a musician discover Jacob Collier. Please react to lots more of this mind-boggling young jazz artist. Magic. He's not just a vocalist but plays about every instrument known. You might enjoy this one next: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXSWeKWwpLZ6b7c
