Been really interesting getting into this stuff. My addiction to Diablo 2 was ebbing by the time LoD came out. I played Act 5 a few times and pretty much stopped, so I never even knew about runewords at all.

@@jacobames8768 just remember... People back in the day had to guess and experiment with all combinations of runewords to see what worked and didn't... So that's alot of trial and error and many lost runes and now the fun is gone, everyone knows everything, guides galore... even a complete newbie can never go wrong anymore unless they play completely blind.

This community does pride itself in figuring things out themselves though (those days are long gone now, everyone knows everything or could with a simple search). In the beginning I remember most people didnt know a dam thing I honestly just played the game with no care lmao now everything is how to power through like a god. I would be intimidated if I never played the game back in the day and was just a new player. The whole grinding till my eyes bleed was never into, so I just play all acts all areas rather than grinding the same boss or area over and over. I am on PS4 and this games load times are brutal so killing a boss in 10 seconds, backing out and creating another game to just do the same thing is soooooo boring and actually kills the fun for me. It's so much work this game 😂

Never used the runeword seriously as I had no idea you could farm countess for runes. Helped me a lot with really cool runewords early especially spirit, smoke and insight and lore.

The first time I played Diablo 2 back in the day, I thought it would be cool to leave it a mystery to try and figure out rune words by trying random combinations of runes haha. I quickly realized how difficult it would be to do that though and not worth it due to how rare runes start to get. I was under the impression there were many many more rune words possible.

Hey, I'm not sure where to ask this, but do you have any videos on gear progression choices? Most gear videos show us what to end up with, but I haven't found any sources that show us what gear we should be moving through in our journey to best in slot. Clearly, drops are unpredictable, but based on your experience, what should gear progression look like?

I don't feel its necessary. Find an item and compare it to your current slot. If you think its better, wear it. Keep your old item in stash just in case you decide it isn't an upgrade. Lots of things you'll end up keeping for a long time like Stealth, spirit or maybe peasant crown until you find a shako. Part of playing is deciding what you should be wearing through out the game.

Hey MrLlama - i apreciate your guides a lot - the guided Playthroughs helped me alot to enjoy the game more. What i wanted to ask is, if by any chance, you could make Videos Specificly about Best in Slot items for Different classes - what gear to keep an eye out and all that. Since there is no Plugy i kinda have a hard time to know what to keep and what not. I allready have a huge Word-Sheet with Infos from your guides about what runewords and bases and etc. to look out for but i kinda would want to play through with each class and it would be cool to be able to prepare some gear for them. It would be supercool to have 1 (or 7) Videos to go to when i'm unsure what items to keep for future Builds and which items wont be used at all. I Currently go to your Guided playthroughs for that but they are not exactly detailed when it comes to Best in Slot stuff to keep

I tried to create the spirit rune word for my 4 socket crystal sword. Somehow even though the order I used was Tal -> Thul -> Ort - Amn, it did not work. I noticed that the sockets were placed different from the regular order on swords (left to right and up to down) in the after top left for first rune, the next was placed on bottom right. However, the written word of the times were still the right order. I play Diablo LOD 1.14d

I've played this game for 10 years very casaually. Just making new characters here and there and never even made trough Nightmare difficulty. Now i wanted to try out more advanced mechanics and after watching this i hate myself for not looking for these guides. After 10 years I didn't even know there is such thing as Runewords. I just thougt the Runes are another type of socket items next to gems and jewels. How could i have ever knew these things without randomly seeing it mentioned in internet? There is no guide or info in game about them.. Edit: Ups, i mean i've played the game on/off for 20 years! Time flies fast!

Completing act5 quest1 allows you to add socket to equipment at Larzuk once per difficulty. For white item (non-magic, non-socketed), you will always get the maximum number of socket allowed by its item level. For example, if you socket an archon plate at Larzuk, you will get a 4os archon plate, if you want to create a 3os armor for something like enigma instead, you can use mage plate instead, all elite armors can have maximum socket of 4.

Additionally make sure the socketed item base you have corresponds exactly with the correct base the rune words works in. It’s easy to see what a helm is or sword is, but I put Insight in a Yari - well a Yari is a spear, not a pole arm - so no Insight.

I'm at the stage where the runes are starting to pile up...using the Runeword calculator is helpful, but how do you sift through all the different types related to your class, or progress in the game? Or say I'm in act V, and I want grief; now I have to farm a 5 socket, along with runes that are missing. Calculator says Ladder only?

i like the crafting aspect runewords add. A noob playing through the game the first time probably won't discover things like stealth until they start to have trouble and start looking things up. For veteran players running through the game, something like stealth is just a really nice item to get you through the game faster. In the end game, runewords give something that you can save up for, something that you can look at your stash and go "ok just 1 more sur rune and I can finally make my enigma" and that gives you something to look forward to, rather than the purgatory of waiting for a good item to drop, and not knowing when it's going to come, or if it ever will.

I highly recommend you play a single player run through of the full game all the way through hell difficulty. You appreciate every single item the game drops you and you are very unlikely to ever get an Enigma or an Infinity. You can be into Nightmare difficulty and your Mercenary is still wearing an Isenhart's breastplate because you have never found anything better for him.

shop for a staff with teleport charges on it. You can find them as early as act 3 normal difficulty. Obtain money as you play so when you get to act 3 you can afford to buy the staff. Make money by ensuring you have lots of inventory space to pick up things to sell. I am playing with a newbie friend who makes the mistake of filling his inventory with potions before we go down into the dungeons. I often go with only the potions in my belt. and make frequent town trips via town portal so you can sell off the full inventory of superior items, items with skills on them such as helms, wands, staff, scepter, pick up throwing knives, and poison pots and fire pots. By the time I leave Act 1 I generally have well over 200K and can easily afford the staff with teleport charges on it which I have seen sell for as low as $18,000

Yeah I had the runes to make Insight, but for some reason I thought I was making a spirit and bricked my 4 socket sword. Oh well. Time to farm again. So just make sure you have the right base and the right runes.

You need different gem types for different purposes, Perfect gems have a lot of uses and you can sell them to others of you have a lot "usually 40 per sale".

so i had an issue with the spirit keyword, i only found a rune sword base with 4 sockets, (no luck on crystal sword) , it had a high dex requirement of 79 (and about 100str), so should i keep farming for a crystal or use this until i find a crystal sword (or higher equivalent) with just 4 sockets?

farm normal Cows and any crystal sword or broad sword found in that level will have the capability of getting 4 sockets. Take the sword to Larzuk to add the sockets you will get 4 every time IF the sword is from normal Cows. While doing cows also look for a polearm base to make the runeword Insight but you will have to use the cube recipe to add sockets and hope you get 4 unless you are super lucky and find a 4 socket one.
