Listening because I miss my Mom. She died at age 81, from Covid, at 2:02 pm on Jan 21, 2021. Moms are magical. Spend as much time as possible with her.

Okay. He's using old records to manipulate and create new sounds which are reminiscent of genres such as post-rock with the crescendos and is making an ultimately unique and interesting song while still staying original to a song nearly everyone is familiar with, which, believe you me, is not easy. Plus the fact that this is entirely mixed live with incredible attention to detail and precise scratches that don't take away from the rhythm whatsoever takes serious talent. And it sounds good.

I come from 10 years in the future and even today this performance stands out from anything I've ever seen from DJs.
@ch0pz11 жыл бұрын
True art form of turntablism. No laptops (serrato) or any beat machines used for sampling. Just three turntables and a mixer. Real skill and on-the-spot mixing that not too many dj's these days do and that's why it is a classic
@sircolt81843 жыл бұрын
When we started turntabling we didn't have no fancy schmancy pitch controls. You had to spin the Schellack in the right speed. Kids these days are spoiled with their electricity and their "vinyls". If youre a real dj you only need two phonautographs a lead cylinder and some creativity.
@ghsu2 жыл бұрын
it wasnt just 3 turntables and a mixer, he also had a reverb pedal. Still awesome though

That mixer definitely has some of the same effects

I just found kid koala 4 levels down from seatching for someone else, from Ingenuity fest in Cleveland Ohio yesterday. So blessed and grateful! At 70, a Mom and G-Ma, this is one of my favorite songs. I had no idea who he is nor what he does. I was literally blown away and my heart broke open and my eyes leaked. And then, his parting verbiage, " take care of each other" put me over the top! 💜🎶 🌟 Angels all around and Miracles Never Cease! 🙏

who else you know who can remix a slow song like this? this guy is a God on the turn table
@ForrestOutman Жыл бұрын
Good point taking a melodic AND slow song and mixing it is SO SO much harder, completely unforgiving... Like watch style dance, The slower it is the easier it is for people to notice your mistakes and the more it's related to Melody versus heavy beats when things don't pair it's so painfully obvious.

how do you play a record like it’s an instrument? kid koala never ceases to amaze me. listening to his records always leaves me wondering how he’s doing what he does, but seeing it live only leaves me wondering even more, truly unmatched

I don't know- the kid loves what he does, and loves his mother. He's adding a new sound to a classic song to show it to a different generation of people. I don't get how that's so hard to understand. I love my mother.

Jacob Collier can't be compared to this version. Koala's version is his own thing & still moves me in ways after almost a decade. One can go into a loop for days by listening to both of these improvisations back to back. In the end, it's a win for Team Music 🏆

Koala is such a great turntablist. his stutter effect always fascinated me when i hear it on record. and hearing this is infinitely touching, as this was one of the last tunes my late cousin took the ride to at the place of rest, with a photo of beautiful photo of audrey hepburn by her coffin. a great tribute koala. thanks.

Broadening one's horizon is generally a good idea in my opinion. Maybe you should try it before you knock it :) "With a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. Always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts were getting incredible kicks from things he'll never know."
