Remake is not related to ea games and BIOWARE so I'm hoping it doesn't take the defective cheap plastic gta trilogy route and goes for the authentic jedi fallen and let's. Hope of it takes 4 - 7 years that it becomes a Master piece

​@@Alex8MRD An update on the 21st made the Combat text smaller. It clips into the top of the TV/Switch screen now. I've also experienced crashes every 5 to 6 hours(this is a sign of a memory leak) of prolonged play. I also had a bug where I skipped one of the trials for the first Star Map, the cut-scene of my PC and party just started playing. Twice I've warped into loading zones from out of nowhere.

I still find the turn based, dice rolling combat style to still be extremely fun to play for me it can but more fun to play than some remakes that go action combat. I wouldn't mind more games coming with the Kotor gameplay styke.

That’s pretty sad about the lack of audio, I didn’t realize but I’d love to hear carth say “down you go!” haha. I also agree that the screen during combat is very intrusive. Hope they fix it with an update

If you've never played this game, getting this on the Switch is a no-brainer. What a game. I played through both KOTOR games on Xbox when they became backwards compatible and they still hold up so well. I may be in the minority on this, but I think KOTOR 2 is even better than the original.

kotor 2s really good but the fact it was never finished and you NEED mods to make it good and those mods add really shitty areas that were obvious why they were left out makes it impossible for me to say its actually better, kotor 1 is just a finished product and kotor 2 aint. thats the short of it but again both are amazing

Love the Switch version and currently progressing through the game. I enjoy the fact that you can play it on the go wherever you are - truly a relaxing game to be immersed in! The only downside, I agree, is the combat panel notification which is a bit intrusive and no sounds from characters when you select them or during combat cries. But other than that I am very happy with it! Hope they amend these things with KOTOR2 for Switch when they release it.

A patch has now been released that reportedly fixes the issue with the gigantic text box and the lack of certain NPC sounds. I was waiting for them to fix that before buying the Switch version. Not checked the new updated version out yet but I will do very soon. EDIT: Have played it and yes, they've made that box smaller and more unobtrusive, and NPC sounds are all there as far as I can tell.

@@lizandrodavid There are side quests and a few mini games that can add some time, but it typically takes me between 20 and 30 hrs for a playthrough. Can vary a few hours depending on difficulty settings and how familiar you are with the game.

Now, I swear I'm going crazy. I played KOTOR on a kindle a few years ago, and in combat, you could stack 4 attacks, versus the Switch and stacking 2. And the 2 only stack once the 1st attack is going into effect. Is it the Soldier class that specifically does this? Or am I misremembering?

I'd like this version on the other platforms as well like playstation having the original version if even if its this slightly modified version on the PS4/5 would be nice so that its not just the remake but both thats available to fans to choose from. I still might slightly prefer the PC version for modding purposes only but otherwise I'd probably still enjoy playing it on my PS4 with proper widescreen support as well as gamepad support without mods with the inputs I prefer.

Only thing I'm not a huge fan of and it's a minor irk, is that if you don't close the game (which I never do when playing games/going into sleep mode) it will stack your hours of gameplay even with the switch in sleep mode. I wasn't even on Taris and I had 34+ hours into the game. I don't think I should have to close the game every time just because I want to maintain the game time. Not a major issue lol but just a lil something.

I'm also a HUGE KOTOR fan! I only hope they release KOTOR 2 for Switch, too! The only complaint I had was many of the sound effects are gone...like Mission saying 'On it" and 'Done". Or the great sounds of the Vulkars dying. LOL Still, AMAZING! I'm sooo happy it came out just in time for my birthday! OMG! 'Playing KOTOR in bed is a spiritual experience' - BIG Facts! I could not agree with you more! And because I've played through this game SO, So, so many times - I can play it casually while waiting in the Doctor's office or at the pharmacy (thanks to my Bluetooth headset), all while enjoying a game that holds so many happy memories. Nice review!

That's correct. They updated KotOR 2 on PC with widescreen but not the first game. Still need to use UniWS.

The best way to play KOTOR is still on a desktop pc with HD textures and 16:9 widescreen mods. That being said, this is the best way to play the game portably. Prior to this, I was using a laptop to play on-the-go. Playing on a laptop feels inconvenient and impractical when compared to the Switch. Solid port.

KOTOR and it’s sequel we’re amazing games for their time. And even today the story and characters are in a league of their own. But damn, that combat system is dated as hell. I still can’t believe that BioWare made KOTOR 1 and 2 then followed up with mass effect trilogy. Say what you want about the ending but that trilogy was also amazing. Then andromeda and anthem… I mean wtf. Talk about a fall from grace

I wonder if it still has the saving/autosaving glitch. The autosave and hard saves constantly become corrupt or glitch out on the Xbox version. This makes the saves impossible to access, either getting stuck in an infinite loading screen or returning you to the title screen.

Honestly, the massive text bubble and the lack of sounds (war cries, deaths, etc) have ruined this experience for me. The world feels lifeless now. Hopefully this is something Aspyr fixes but I doubt it.

There is no reason for a re-make of KOTOR, a graphical remaster and tweaking like Mass Effect Legendary would be fine. I have a bad feeling about any “re-make” especially since the original writers are not involved. Glad this classic is becoming more available for gamers!

Kotor is my all time favorite game. I played through 1 and 2 at least 7 times. I have the physical, digital and mobile versions. I can't wait for the remake! I'm disappointed it's a PS5 exclusive since I play on xbox. I will buy a PS5 as soon as I can though.

Love. This. Game. (& 2nd one). I pre-ordered this & tampered with it, & it does look good. I'll finish this when I'm done with my current game. I also have a physical copy ordered from Limited Run. *One thing I must say: I truly hope this no longer has the Carth glitch.* I still have my OG Xbox copy, & even with all the times I played it, I still never made it past that Carth glitch (even with researching how to avoid it). I truly hope Apsyr fixed that game breaking glitch. Did you run into it?

Don't, the only thing Switch version adds is a ginat "COMBAT MODE" header at the top of the screen that takes five times more space than it needs obstructing your view every time you are in combat.

The analytical video based on the game's story would be dope. I'm looking forward to the current console remake and although they said that the gameplay will be altered like modern games,the gameplay kind of turns me off. Reminds me of the Pokemon games. Anyways,as always,great game.

There already is a pretty good way to play Kotor on the go with the Phone port which does keep all the sound cues. If it were me I bet they patch them back in and it’s a bug, but hey more ways to play Kotor the better.

I use to download the mods when I had the PC version. Honestly I know this game like the back of my hand. When I play kotor 2 I find out something new everytome which is nice. But I think out of the two I prefer the original
