@@royalrugby4869 Yeah PoE2 was a weird one. I think for me it was the ship combat specifically. That and the main story felt pretty truncated. It actually did the thing every RPG seems to do, come up with some major over the top world ending threat you HAVE TO DEAL WITH NOW! But then have a ton of side quests. Add to that the ship combat basically being a text adventure and ehh.... I kept thinking "man if this was a third person style RPG (like DAI) and had the ship stuff from AC (but less arcady) and the story wasn't so dire I'd love all this island hopping". Cyberpunk has that same story issue for me. hit the title screen after the heist and their all 'you have 2 weeks, anyway heres 200 side gigs'. The amount of 'ignore the time' you have to do in a lot of these games is kinda absurd.

I even introduced him to Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, played on my old 25" CRT TV. I made sure he got used to seeing the TV's UI, then had him play with the lights off late at night, leaving him in the room by himself. I heard an audible "JESUS! WTF?!" about an hour in, lmfao! Poor kid had nightmares for months. The game is proper scary, not that cheap jump scare bullshit. Like, it really fucks with you. Fun vid, I love Kotor 1 and 2. I think one of things I miss from old days is every company now has to have great cutting edge graphics and we have seen this with Frostbyte and Andromeda, and recently cyberpunk. Some of my favorite games took the same engine, and then made the next game. Because they knew the engine, they could really focus on content. Kotor 2, Fallout 2, New Vegas, heck even Baldur's Gate 2. Or they tune up the engine as in Wasteland 3. I just wish companies would stop the race to make sure they have super ray edge lighting and focus on the RPG content. I don't care how shadows or water looks if the game sucks.

Kotor 1 vs Kotor 2 Kotor 1 is a classic Star Wars Story, given a hero extremely strong in the force, a huge space station, and a marvelous twist on par with "I am your father". For me, I like the atmosphere and overall vibe of Kotor 1 better than Kotor 2. It's much more replayable and I enjoy the planets a lot more than Kotor 2. It's a kind of cheesy, but fun game and I find something new every time I play. Kotor 2 Kotor 2 builds upon the story in Kotor 1 and adds many subtleties and complexities to the story. It takes the story from fantasy to reality- it's like reading a book in Kotor 1 and Kotor 2 is you nitpicking the author's brain of everything they did when writing the book. It builds upon the Jedi and their flaws, how the Force itself works, as well as exploring themes of guilt and dealing with the past. Kotor 1 is a fun game that I love to replay. Kotor 2 is so complex and explores so many themes of Star Wars that I want to write an essay on it.

The greatest example of this is Kreia's character. Her dialog is on the next level. She is mysterious, interesting, her words always have a hidden meaning and she always says something to think about. Other character are very interesting as well. Kotor 2 is my favorite. Not sure what I can say that hasn't been said thousands of times already. To me what the story represents is renewal, finding either revenge or redemption in the scraps and wreckage. To forge a way ahead, either with self reflection and/or conviction...while still exposing some character flaws (by design) enough to learn a few small things. To be joined by unlikely allies on the way. To find a new way where the old one was lost, but then realizing the new way was the old way calling out to you and finding you again. Also it is the best thing fans could have never hoped for: considering it was rushed out, this became an opportunity for the public to learn how games are developed. The incredible restoration mod for existing content that just never got implemented and eventually it was. All the other mods like heart of the force, recruit Atris, m4-78 droid planet. Even one to give the model of Revan's outfit some animations for the cape--easy to take for granted until you realize how un-polished the outfit model is without it. True, it lacks an "epic" ending and it has a bit of a horror theme compared with other installments which are less morally grey. However, this taught me that the value is really only what you make of it "how do you see it?". Too often our western inclination is to put a polarity to something which it may not have or need--and doing this would mean you miss the lesson it would teach: to wake up out of a stupor you may not realize that you're in, to realize there is a limited time in life to control and make decisions which may have a large impact not only on you but everyone around you. I am not sure if this is part of taoism, though to this end you realize no matter what, there's always trade-offs.

@@92HazelMocha The ending, albeit amazing, felt a tad rushed.

It's the only game I ever played in which not only the hero and the villain are both protagonists, but in which the villain is a Nietzschean, which is what makes it so good.

Recently re-did a run through of KotoR 1 fully modded. Was absolutely amazing. Now I’m jumping into a new KOTOR 2 run also fully moded. Such an amazing game even after all those years

Agreed. KoTOR 2 is one of the best Star Wars games I've played! A very dark atmosphere, fun and interesting companions not to mention some new planets you can visit and the influence system. This and the prestige classes is probably the 2 best things about this game. It was also great we could not only start as a jedi but also train some of our companions in the ways of the force. Atton is still by far the easiest to train as a jedi, especially if your playing as a darkside character. I grew up playing both games as a kid but I probably played the 2nd game more. I remember one of my earliest playthroughs, a male jedi consular. Back then I never heard of mods and I didn't discover the RCM until a few years ago in... 2015? It's still an amazing and fun game to play! Also we got to choose if Revan from the 1st game was male or female, lightside or darkside.

Nice one Matty for reminding me of how much I missed KOTOR 2 as it brings back some fond memories. KOTOR 2 has one of my favourite companions of all time Atton Rand as well as it was the first time I felt encouraged to talk to the other companions in the team to learn about their past. 👍🤪

Love both Kotor 1 and 2. I do wonder what could have been if the Obsidian team had the same amount of development time as Bioware had with it, but despite this, it's still a great game and agree on the recommendation. Btw, there's a restored content mod out there on moddb and I really recommend it. It just makes the experience feel more complete. Make sure to follow the setup instructions thoroughly if you decide to download it or you will experience crashes.

Been playing KOTOR 1 for almost 13 years now and finally gave KOTOR 2 a chance. Finished it today I really liked it. Pros: -Crafting -Huge variety of models for weapons/armor -Character influence abilities -Tons of new feats/powers and implants/belts/gauntlets -Implant prerequisites linked to constitution 👍 -Special character abilities -Making security skill more useful by giving bashing locked container a drawback -Ability to swing force alignment back and forth fast Cons: -Supporting characters do not interact and have dialogue like in KOTOR I -Planets become “dead” once played through. Once beaten there is zero reason to return. There are no new side quests or character quests that bring you back. Hardly any links between words. -Cutscene graphics were downgraded -Much less open world exploring like in KOTOR I. The planets felt very linear and dead. Nar Shaddar was good but they needed more depth. -Too easy to buy items. I ended this game with 500,000 credits, I barely had a reason to spend in this game. -Merchants were lacking, very few of them compared to KOTOR I. -There were hardly any force/lightsaber battles. Only a few at the end. -Korriban felt too short -Pragus amd Telos were boring and visually dull areas.

Kotor 2 is the best Star Wars game of all time imo. My absolute favorite that I still play to this day. It just released on mobile and I have been playing it for maybe the 50th time and still loving it so much.

Everytime I replay Kotor 1 I get 70 to 80% through and I'm ready to move on so I can get to Kotor 2, the RP is much better in Obsidian games. I love Kotor 1 but 2 is my Favourite.
