Yes, language guardians must be precise, otherwise language will become a mess, especially English - not governed by the state. There is always someone in the pack who tries to weaken the system by defending the wrong ones. You, guys, are doing the right thing.

Language is a human phenomenon. It doesn't depend on "guardians." All languages change, like it or not. And all languages belong to the people who speak them (they don't belong exclusively to native speakers). Sharing information about language is certainly a great thing (I love this channel!), but no one has the power of determining what can or can't be used when it comes to language. People can say some forms are wrong as much as they want to, but that's just like using a plastic fork to fight a gigantic dragon. Not even dictionaries have the power of telling people what to say. All they do is present standard forms. And so do grammar books. Language doesn't COME from books. Language is DESCRIBED or USED in books. Language belongs to people. What's the point of saying that something is wrong when millions of people speak that way? Can we say millions of people are wrong just because we want to? Something can be considered wrong only if it's made up. It's not wrong if there are entire groups of people who consider those forms to be appropriate and effective. Don't worry: standard forms are not going to die just because alternative forms co-exist. Ain't that true? Greetings from Brazil.

@@materiaisdeestudos9219 I think you're missing the main point here. You may speak whatever you like, but you cannot teach false rules, phrases or words. Or you think that spreading false information is a good thing?

@@pashu16af I'm sorry to say, but I think YOU missed the point here. I never said teachers should teach any forms besides the standard ones. Teachers are supposed to pronounce "mirror" as a 2-syllable word, for instance, because that's the standard pronunciation of that word. What I did say before is that languages are not dependent on "guardians." Teachers are not "language guardians." Especially because we, teachers, know very well that languages behave like a live organism. When you speak with your friends, you don't use language in the same way as when you speak to a judge. Teachers teach standard language so as students can have access to it and use it at appropriate times. Right now, I'm using standard English with you because I had access to it at school - English is a mandatory subject in Brazil. My teachers taught me standard English. But they knew that they were helping us (students), not the English language. Teachers are not supposed to "protect" languages from anything. Some people will pronounce "mirror" as a one-syllable word, whether we like it or not. It's something that doesn't depend on our approval. We can teach them that the standard form of "mirror" has two syllables, but, as we do that, we're just giving information to people. We're not trying to "save the language from harm" or the like. All languages (no exceptions) are social conventions. Those conventions do not depend on mathematical logic, prescriptive rules, dictionaries etc. No matter how hard you try to "protect" a language from so-called "mistakes," languages will continue to change according to their USE (and languages are used and altered by EVERYONE who speak them - from people who know just 100 words to people who know more than Shakespeare did). Here's some food for thought: if the people who use standard English were the only ones with permission to speak, how many people would have to be in silence? Don't take me wrong: I love this channel as much as you do. I just wanted to point out that standard English is not the only type of English that exists, and that no teacher will ever be able to be a "language guardian." I didn't mean to upset you, all right? Happy Holidays! Greetings from a Brazilian linguist and teacher. ❤

@@materiaisdeestudos9219 non-native people teach false English, are you saying it's ok? Teachers are not language guardians because you say so? You're kind of a Lord who decide? If they wanna be language guardians why couldn't they? Anyone can be anything if they feel they should be. You're a really talkactive person as I see, but still missing the point. Some languages HAVE some rules protected by the government, they depend on prescriptive rules. English unfortunately is not one of them. But other languages are not in great danger, obviously. Let English evolve, but among native speakers. Imagine some guy comes to your house and starts saying stupid things to you because a scam teacher taught this guy. Kids can absorb this stupidity. NO to scammers and dillusioned ones :)

I have come across a lot of people who say "have RAN" and "was RAN." I usually snicker quietly. A lot of people have not been taught the correct English grammar rules. I live in Houston, Texas and English is a second language here due to a disproportionate amount of immigration from Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras.
