there is a skate park there in town that is really in need of ramps and stuff its a shame the unused skate equipment could not have been donated to it instead of just sitting and rotting away

It's a shame they just let that stuff rot. I suppose the business side of the park saw this stuff as assets that could be sold some day. Too bad the elements, and vandalism, ruined it.

If they had built a Huge new amusement park right on the beach (without Hard Rock name or anything requiring naming rights fees) It would have thrived ......... once people are at the beach they don't want to drive about 5 miles inland to a theme park !

With a little bit of work this park could return.

I hate it didn't work out, why didn't it work out?

+Pamela Paxton There are a lot of factors, recession, ticket prices... hard to know exactly, I think it was a combination of a lot of unfortunate circumstances.

Keep in mind, the original "Hard Rock Park" didn't last to the end of the 1st summer. To go out of business that fast, you have to be failing to cover the operating costs (salaries, food for the restaurants, electric bill, etc.). Hard Rock charged $50 admission with no discounts available, even children paid full fare. They spent most of the money on "theme" and very little on amusements. The roller coasters sucked, except for the Led Zeppelin coaster. There were not nearly enough rides to justify the price of admission. You will hear "the recession" blamed for the failure. This place opened in 2008 before the recession panic had hit. It closed in August 2008 just as the financial panic was starting. It was out of business before any recession effects were being felt by businesses. The place was marketed toward adults and included lots of restaurants/bars serving alcohol with live music. Myrtle Beach would be the last place on earth that you would build an adult oriented theme park as it has always been a place to take your kids. It is also known as a golf destination, but I can't believe the golfing crowd would have much interest in this. We didn't attend the 1st year as there was no way in hell I was paying $200 to get the wife and kids and me in the door. We did go the 2nd year (Freestyle music park) when it was much cheaper. All of the rides were computer controlled, and the original owners didn't turn over the software for the rides. Freestyle Music Park never had all of the rides working, so I think this contributed to the 2nd failure. I think the appropriate question is not, "why did it fail? but "who's the idiot that thought this would work?"

+Chickadoodle1320 all excellent points! I think you hit the nail on the head with the "who" claim. Red Jacket Films has been working on a documentary on the park and have interviews with some of the people responsible for the park. That film might answer the question "who's to blame".

How do i Find the Documentary?

How were you able to get permission to film?
@MrMyrtle8 жыл бұрын
+Thomas McClure there is a local film maker doing a documentary on the park. See the link in the video description. I briefly mentioned it at the beginning of part 1, but he basically asked if I wanted to tag along with him. He got permission from the property owner.

@@MrMyrtle Red Jacket has nothing on their channel about this park that I can find. You did a nice job with your documentary.

I used to work here as a college intern - software developer and technical analyst. This brought back so many memories, great times and lots of fun! Sad to see it didn't last 12 months and went to ruins. 🥲 Thanks for sharing this.
