Great series Always had a good time there Victim of a bad economy

Thanks so much for sharing your once in a lifetime experience of exploring the abandoned Hard Rock Park. I went there the first season it opened and remember watching the Malibu Beach Party show, riding the Led Zeppelin ride, and spending way too much time and money in the British Invasion section lol it’s so sad that this park didn’t make it. I wonder why they started to demolish it and then just stop. Wonder if they’ll ever have plans to completely demolish and make it a mall or something. The architecture and detail of this place was outstanding. Again, thanks so much for sharing. Really brought back memories!

The closure of this park raises hundreds of good questions. I don't think any one thing caused the park fail. That's the interesting part of exploring locations like this, so many unanswered questions.

@@MrMyrtle It was mainly the economy got so bad so fast (unlike the reason given by another commenter), amd Myrtle Beach as a whole was hit hard financially. In 08 the Sheraton hotel on the south end of the beach (big pink one) could not pay their bills and their power was shut off, and they were either condemned or nearly condemned. Who would ever think a nice Sheration hotel would be condemned? The next building down was million dollar condos (on the old Apache hotel site) and they too went under.

Just finished watching the entire series you've put on here. Great job. It had done come and gone by the time I visited Myrtle in 2012, which was my first visit since 1996. We went to Medievil Times next door, and I was surprised by the park and that it had closed in addition to the Waccamaw Outlets that were completely closed. Great set of videos.

Thanks for posting these videos. I went to Hard Rock Park in 2008 and had no idea it was abandoned until just now in 2017. I visited from Virginia while we were at Myrtle Beach. I thought the Park was nice and we had a good time. Pretty depressing to see it like this. When we were waiting in line to get on Led Zepelin the ride got stuck on the tracks and it took them a long time to get the people out of the car. It was kinda scary.

+Lori_J it is. A lot of people’s time and money, gone. It feels like an episode of walking dead in that place.

Thanks for making the series! I love abandoned stuff like that. It's a shame to see parks close but by the looks of it this one it probably never should have opened. not enough rides and attractions to support the high prices.

Me and a friend went by there and found a bunch of almost 10 year old Hard Rock Park pamphlets scattered in a ticket booth advertising Kid Rock and the Eagles. It's weird to see since the park did become Freestyle Music Park.

Happened to me also. Did not go to MB from 07 to 2010 due to illness in family, got there in 2010 and my wife picked up a brochure. We asked our friend who is a prop. mgr. in MB the next morning about the Hard Rock Park She sighed and said a lot has changed in MB, and that the park only lasted about 6 months.

If this would have been built at the old pavallion site and I bet it would have been a huge hit in downtown but at that time I was ticked over BC closing the pavallion

Great video, but sad to see the park in this condition. Do you know what the construction (or demolition) crews were doing?
@MrMyrtle8 жыл бұрын
There was a large pile of rubble from a previous demolition crew. They were removing the debris from the site.

so why did this park close
@MrMyrtle8 жыл бұрын
Several factors. Red Jacket Films, see the link n the description, is doing a documentary on the parks failure. It should be released soon. But, to simply it, people just didn't show up.

There's actually no security to be honest with you.
@MrMyrtle8 жыл бұрын
+Jay Horstman Before entering I met with the security team. We were also escorted at times. One of the reasons I used a lot of music in these videos is to cover up the security person talking while we filmed. You can see their truck in the part 4 video. They run on a scheduled loop around the park. You may have been lucky and timed your visit just right.
@jayhorstman50248 жыл бұрын
Mr Myrtle Do you know when they're usually there? I was planning on going around 4pm today.
@MrMyrtle8 жыл бұрын
I was told there is at least one person there 24/7.

Mr Myrtle Really?..well then they kinda lied to you 😂 because a couple of my friends went there during the day and then I went a week later during the night and neither of us had a problem with security.

Has there been any more talk about this being turned into a Chinese cultural center? I found a news report a while back but had not seen any new information lately.

I believe the deal died. Red Jacket Films is doing a documentary on the failure and status of the park. There's a link In the description to their page. It may cover some of the properties future.
