Great Cars: MASERATI

In 1914 just after World War I, Alfieri Maserati took his patented automotive spark plug and started building racecars in the heart of Bologna. Using war surplus parts and machinery, he began what would become the proud trident trademark of Maserati and a tradition of thoroughbred Italian sports cars. Maserati road cars were also built with racing car genes that promised powerful performance. Today, Maserati is being revitalized by its new owner, Ferrari, who is helping its former rival regain its position as one of the great sports cars in the world.

I purchased the last Maserati shamal to come off the production line, before that car I had a Ferrari 328 and 355. And some 911s The shamal was a disappointment compared to my previous cars, when the 3200 came out I thought about it as it looked so Maserati, but the engine was the same as the shamal. When the 4200 was created , it came with an engine from Ferrari so I purchased it. Honestly, it's the best sports car I have ever driven. The engine now fits the Maserati looks, even the clock is set in leather, not plastic like the cars that came after. It's a dream to drive , but you have to spend at least week getting to know it.

I admit to finding these cars super sexy while not liking Ferraris or Lambos and yes, both are superior cars . I cannot put my finger on what I love about Masseratis but I have loved them since age 6 . I guess I am more of a style than performance guy but I doubt I am alone in that .

The Italians ended the war as part of the Allied powers. And the Germans did race as soon as they could build race cars after the war.
