Every time I visit a music store: "What kind of guitar are you looking for?" "Yes."
@alexdenton6586 Жыл бұрын
What would be great is if most people understood that in the end, it doesn't matter much because it's mostly the amplifier and the speaker that make all the difference. What matters is that you feel comfortable, that you find it beautiful and enjoyable to play. You can play jazz without any problem on a BC Rich guitar.
@makinganoise6028 Жыл бұрын
If you are a good enough player, chicks will be impressed, that is all that matters.

I hope you are wearing flame proof clothing. To me I find its PU's/Amp. And sometime Bridge,scale & tuning. I have a Strat & Tele both are very different beasts. The Tele used to have a 70's hard tail on it. Out and ashtray bridge wow it did make a difference. You play to Strats one with a tree one with a hardtail same kind of thing the springs defiantly do something. I recently played a Strat on a session that had a ashtray bridge it was a wierd thing between Tele & Strat. But it had that plunky staccato thing that tele's do so well. my $0.02. Of course amps make a huge difference. Woods nah not that I can tell except at the density extremes maybe.
@stevepelham9010 Жыл бұрын
I am a wierd F#. My prefered one is a hybrid standing inbetween Les Paul and the Strat and to find one that realy works out in its design and soundwise getting that magic from both and also having a nice boque of its own that is hard. I have managed twice my nr1 always but put in regular terms, the original single coil six point Strat!

I mostly play sitting down, so to me is quite important how they feel in terms of positioning. When I play teles I find myself strumming over the neck pick up instead of doing it in the middle of the two pick ups. LP style guitars tend to sit very low and make me twist my wrist too much... I feel more comfortable with 335 bodies. Maybe because I played mostly acoustics all my life ? The scale length I don't care too much about string tension cause you can adapt the gauges. But the fret size on the fenders also makes it more difficult to stretch my little fat fingers 🤌

The SG is a great all around guitar for most styles. Why they're not more popular is a mystery? The SG Modern is a very versatile model. Maple cap and 24 frets give it some distinction.
@Thearcherfl Жыл бұрын
I’ve played a bunch of sg. I have no complaints other than I don’t prefer the aesthetics and shape. But they play ok. Just my personal opinion. I’d take an ESP over the Gibson.
@andrewbecker3700 Жыл бұрын
@@Thearcherfl The SG Modern specifically, has the slim taper asymetrical neck with ebony fingerboard and 24 frets. Coilsplit and phase switching along with a treble bleed curcuit. I'm actually looking for a used one right now to swap the pickups out of my AJ sig. into. I had one a few years ago, but traded it in for my LTD Eclipse '87 NT in pearl white.

Having tried all the various types of guitars since learning to play on junk in the early 70's the main things i have learned when choosing the right guitar for you are that it must say play me, if it doesn't it will be another one that just collects dust, assuming that it grabs your attention, then play it for as long as you can in the shop, i quick strum for a few minutes tells you nothing, next is the body and more importantly the neck comfortable, if not then try another guitar of that type, only then will you have an ideal guitar that you will want to play. As for the various types, i now only buy S style guitars, i can't stand T types or anything that looks like it should have Gibson on the headstock. PRS, i have tried but they are not for me. These days i tend to buy Super Strats not beacuse i play metal, but because they are so easy to play compared to Fenders idea of a perfect Strat. Each to their own, it takes a lifetime to become a good player, then god has other ideas.

I love my Harley Benton HB35+. Out of the box the action needed some fret levelling to bring it down from 6 thou to 5 thou but it was playable as was. I happily used the then stock Wilkinson pickups for four years. Wanting more brightness I fitted IronGear Blues Engines and 50s wiring and now I regard it as highly as my Fenders and solitary Gibson SG.
@McSlobo Жыл бұрын
I have G&L Legacy (Strat) and it stays in tune very well. It actually somewhat adapts to the humidity because the string tension depends not only the scale length - which varies as weather changes - but rather the trem block strings that couldn't care less about if it's monsoon or -40°C outside. But my god, when it gets out of tune finally, it takes multiple iterations to tune, because the trem block strings naturally affect every string and react to any tuning change quite much.
@makinganoise6028 Жыл бұрын
Got all of those style of guitars, as long as setup correctly, all are good, I find Fender style stay in tune better, Tele's and 335 the most versatile, but I prefer a P90 in neck of the Tele and a HB in bridge of Strat.

One additional point on top of the Floyd guitars is that the out of tune thing isn't just after abuse, but if you break a string. That's the worst part. At least the other models do not have floating trems (unless you set up a Strat trem that way) so a string break means you can at least get to the end of the song. Not so with Mr Floyd, unless you install some hardware wizardry in the trem cavity.

I bought and sold so many guitars figuring this out. Crazy that I got rid of the Gibsons and Fenders and ended up with an Ibanez semi hollow and and a G&L Tribute S500. I can’t knock the American Strat, did slightly prefer the neck to the S500, but vastly prefer the electronics and pickups in the less than half the price Indonesian G&L. I like teles, but I prefer body contours. I really like the Schecter PTs for a tele style. Overall though, I spent a lot of time and money to find that I like strat style and semi hollows and that I prefer middle of the road price point guitars, generally.

I always just gravitate back towards humbuckers and Les Paul type guitars. I had a tele with nothing to complain qualitywise but sold it because I didn't "feel" it. Got then a used strat clone and swapped fender tex mex pups. Didnt like the thinness even with EQ, so swapped the pups to 2 boutique p90's. Now it sounds like what I wanted from a single coil. This is kinda expensive way to do it, better would be just test different types in a store. Try out different things and find what makes you go YES.

For the first guitar you buy, you should buy non-shitty but cool guitar. If you want a flame-top Les Paul, it should be it. You want to buy guitar you like. But that non-shitty, it can be a challenge. Good straight neck, levelled smooth frets, low enough action, reliable tuners, ... spend some time studying before buying, and return the ones that feel bad.
