I remember them well. There were about 40 withdrawn locos in the sidings at Badnall Wharf awaiting their last journey to Crewe for cutting up.I worked for Westinghouse in the period when the WCML was being electrified in the early 1960's and Westinghouse had the contract to resignal between Basford Hall and Penkridge and just south of Shugborough Tunnel and have never left the area and now live in Eccleshall. Happy days!

Interesting story, thanks for sharing. I used to work on the miniature railway in Eccleshall, in 3 years I boarded and ballasted the entire line around the pool.

Hope they find a new use for these neat trains after spending all that money. Possibly on HS2?

I'm not sure how long they've got left before major overhaul, but hope to see them return.

freight trains in the UK are just as long as our local freight trains, but the class 66s are basically your version of our SD70ACe (and the 66s are made by EMD, who also made the ACes) we also stack intermodal containers on 1 well car, and there's usually 130 well cars, so we haul double the containers, alongside piggyback trailers

Interesting about the 66. I run well cars on my Lionel O gauge tracks, including one with a transformer on. A much higher loading gauge in the USA. It would cost too much to raise ours.

@@StaffsTransport pair a 66 (or 59) with a SD40-2 (the basis for the class 59s) and you'll see how big our loading gauge is

@@snocoelevators Theres a video on here of a 66 being built and one of your locomotives behind it. Your locomotive cab windows are level with the roof of our 66. Even in Europe the 66 looks small compared to the freight stock being pulled which is higher and wider Our loading gauge is very small.

I did know the 325s were going. Is it like forever? Great vid btw!

Cheers. They're going to be put up for sale I assume but not much chance of buyers being found.

Pleased to see your location correctly called Badnall Wharf, That is what it has always been in railway parlance not Millmeece. Pre electification days it had a signalbox with the nameboard BADNALL WHARF

And a lot of stored steam locomotives in the sidings according to my father.

@briancooper562 What has Post Office owned class 325's got to do with HS2? I wasn't aware the Post Office were helping to fund HS2!
