A while back, our party (leveled in the low teens at the time) was stripped of all weapons and equipment and dumped into a level 1 module. At one point, a skeleton popped up and started monologing at the paladin. She one-shotted it and said "I do not banter with minions." Our GM facepalmed and mumbled through her fingers "that was the Boss."

I had my players fighting a siege battle against an army of orcs holding a narrow pass. They were doing well until the general of the army arrived and just started massacring the defending army. This was to be expected I mean not a whole lot can stand up to a 15 foot tall plate armored troll wielding a 10 feet long warhammer.i thought okay now their gonna have to run when suddenly the goblin wizard says to their half elf paladin "Ready to go for a ride?" He just nodded and the wizard looks me dead in the eye "I cast dimension door." "Um okay where to?" "Five hundred feet above the general taking the paladin with me." "Oh..." Little explaination we play with momentum damage 1d10 extra damage for ten feet traveled before the attack. So I told him that well your going to need a high roll to hit him from that distance. "28 nat 20" So with his lance he ended up doing 50d10+1d12+2d6+1d4 adding up to a total of 318 damage and only dislocating his shoulder. Nuking the boss and bringing the table to silence until they burst out laughing with the paladin saying I had no right to live through that. The move has now been dubbed the orbital drop and they always keep a spell slot saved just in case.

Basically he would grab you by the neck and fly into the sky (each turn going higher) I went about 80ish feet into the sky (had to start rolling con saves at higher altitudes) at 80ft I took my immovable rod and locked it into the sky, I threw the target at the rod and he had to make both an athletics check and a Strength saving throw to grab the rod and hang there. My aracockra started interrogating the target and wasn't getting the answers he wanted so he took darts out of his bag for "target practice" some Rolls later he fell after failing a strength saving throw and I tried to catch him in mid air, I only held him for 10ft but failed my strength save so he went S P L A T. Note: while it wasn't intentional he didn't mean to kill him

I was playing a warforged barbarian near beginning of a (sadly short lived) campaign, around level 4, using what I described as an ultra greatsword (homebrew weapon that did 2d8, required a strength of 16 to wield, 2 handed, advantage against mounted opponents/mounts. was essentially a giant zweihander meant to take out horses.) We were charged with protecting a vip as he travelled to deliver important news, and we were ambushed on the bridge out of town into the nearby forest. We manage to avoid getting a surprise round on us through a few good perception rolls, but nevertheless assassin's leap out of the treeline around us. I'm up first, use the charger feat to rush the closest one, take a running uppercut with the charger bonus action and Nat 20. 4d8, +5 charger bonus, +4 str bonus, +2 rage, did 37 damage and sent that one right back into the tree he jumped out of, and impaled him on a branch. the other assassins were mortified, and the ensuing battle only went poorly cause it turned out the leader of this little band was a low level demon, who got our target. The next encounter with that fellow essentially involved me just standing toe to toe with the dude and trading hits as my teammates scrambled to help me either stay alive or kill him faster as he was draining health from me while hitting me. Fun times.

It was the first session of my first homebrew dnd campaign that is still ongoing, I was a Human Paladin and we had an Elf Bard (These are the only characters that matter for this story). We were sent to find out what happened to a camp of people and when we got there, after looking around for a bit, we were attacked by these undead wolves. We dealt with about one or two of them and then the bard decided to buff my paladin to increase his damage against this wolf that may or may not have been one of the last ones, cant really remember, and it was on relatively low health. I decided to attack this one wolf and rolled quite high and, along with the buff, proceeded to SMITE THE WOLF INTO DUST! This became one of my paladins best feats and the bard even said that he would write a song about the moment. Still waiting on the song though.

Oh boy. Our party of 8 ( only like,, 5 were present ) were fighting an ancient blue dragon. We were wildly underprepared at level 6, and I was late to the session, so we were expecting some losses. But we got the dragon down some points, mostly thanks to one of our PC’s op weapon. But our favorite, beloved NPC, Ket, knew we couldn’t take it down without taking some drastic measures. He and my PC, Khione were the only two not on death saving throws. Ket looked at me and said, “it was an honor fighting beside you,” before going berserk. With some janky multi class loops and multiple lucky rolls, he ended up dealing over 1,000 damage, but it wasn’t enough. The dragon was still standing, and now Ket was vulnerable. I rolled for damage on the dragon and ended up dealing ONE PIONT AWAY from killing it. Then, on it’s turn, with one hit point remaining, the dragon used his lightning breath on Ket. It dealt over 6,000 damage, enough to kill Ket probably 300 times over. I ended up crying, and even writing this I’m sad, but it was definitely an instance of insane overkill.

I play a young drakewarden ranger/rogue, Kadorin, who loves foraging for plants to create potions. One day the dm said I found a collection of orange flowers that, after testing with my alchemy kit, I found out doubled my damage, and added 3 to my hit dice. I had enough supplies to make, I believe, ten of these potions. I don't think the dm fully understood what he just gave me. Que boss fight with a literal god. Everyone is getting pummeled and I decided to waste three turns to down a double potion on each turn. Pulled out my +3 Bow, while sneaking, with hunters mark placed on said god, two arrows knocked, and fired. I can't remember the damage output, it was somewhere between 250-350. The boss had a secondary form. So I took his primary form down in one shot, then his secondary form in two. There after I gave him a little lesson in exponential power and how scary it would have been if I kept on downing those potions. *2, *4, *8, *16, *32, *64, *128, *256. After that, luckily, Kadorin was too exhausted to move due to the power overload. Might guy became a joke in that each potion unlocks a new gate, and after battling with eight potions worth in my system I will die, that is if I am not poisoned due to the toxic level of double potion in my system. Since then I can now use my bonus action to drink these potions, learned that Kadorin is a relative of the killed god, de facto also a god. That's not going to get to Kadorin's head.

I noticed how as an amateur dm, I gave out a tone of magic items, so I pretty much just embraced it. Half orc barbarian finished his little personal quest to find the man that killed his mom. Gave him a card that told him, after seeing the man he looses fine motor functions in his hands from a massive spike in adrenaline, drops his axe and just goes gorilla mode on everything in sight (if he successfully grappled somebody he could roll d12s equal to his level in damage, basically just rips limbs off of people)

I finally have one! This was my very first game, with a first time DM who had some house rules((relevant to post) hit dice were the attacking roles ex. Barbarian’s hit dice is a 12 so their max damage was 12 excluding crits, crits were when u got max roll-x1.5, sneak attack when you hit first not restricted by class-x2, if an enemy was on 1 hp they would beg for mercy) anyways I was tiefling bard and my party was on a quest to find (kill) some thieves, when we found some thieves we stole their gear and made our way to the camp. With some very good deception roles later we were hanging out with them, we then found out that they were just normal down on their luck people, anyways we “found” them and the last one (small camp 5 thieves, easy first round wipe)was on 1 hp and I crit plus sneak attack so 8 times 1.5 times 2= 24 damage on a 1 hp dude begging for mercy and the dm allowed me to choose how I wanted to kill him. I chose the thanos snap style except with my short sword- turning him into a bloody mist. I should also mention that we had a monk who did the thanos snap except on a baby. This monk also got nat 20s for every strength check, resulting in the opposing party being knocked unconscious. We were level one...

Snarky yet adorable Ivalician Moogle thief in a Final Fantasy themed pathfinder homebrew game. My character was introduced during an "Arena Arc" and right before a major fight with a gigantic skeletal dragon boss. This was one of the first pathfinder games I had played and all I knew is thief=rogue and rogue=sneak attack. So I asked the DM if I could use the dust cloud the dragon kicked up when it landed to enter stealth because I was first. He says yes, I make my stealth roll and attack. Critical hit. 150+ damage in one attack. Small fluffy moogle dashes through the gigantic dragon, dragon falls to pieces once he lands. Thus began the unexpected running gag of "He looks adorable but is probably some sort of murder machine".

So, two things from separate characters but still it subverted an entire sea-based encounter my dm had been pumped try... only to have it ruined. And yes, both resulted in massive overkill. The three of us (me the Goliath Wild Magic Barbarian, Minotaur Paladin of honorable battle, and Warforged Paladin of Tyranny, all at lv 10) were on a ship hunting for a certain pirate crew, thanks to some magic mumbo jumbo we found out there hideout in a cove. Now as we are approaching, we are able to spot the lookout before he spots us (sheer luck) and are able to capture him before he can sound the alarm. So we know now the ship is in the cove, half the crew are not on the ship, and the ship is equipped with some serious firepower compared to ours which has one ballista. que ruining the dms plans. and leading to overkill. Dm had planned this entire encounter around a SEA battle between the ships. he made the fatal error of expecting us to do what we normally do 99% of the time, which is ride in swords drawn, magic flying. nope. Warforged didnt need to breath so he decides to drop down into the sea and walk to the shore. Minotaur joins him cause he remembered that I, the idiot goliath, had purchased several potions of waterbreathing near the start of the campaign when we were lv 3. I dont join them in there secret trip to the cove. and waited. So the two of them reached the cove, surprising the hell out of the crew on the shore and start making a ruckus. Upon hearing it, our own crew sail out and i get on the ballista, which our dm expected of me at least. What he forgot to consider, was the magic tattoo that I rarely use. I slap my arm and my size gets reduced. Goliaths are still considered medium, so now I am a small rock boi. I order one of ballista crew to fire, and my dm rolls, que massive heavy sigh. Dm: "the sailor who fired had top notch aim, took your weight into account and fired. you and the bolt hit the ships main mast." (Meanwhile on the shore) Minotaur: "I cast Dawn" Dm: "I... ok, whats the save and how much damage?" Mino: "Con, and...(Rolls dice) a metric f*&k ton" Dm: "Ok, so of these 20 something pirates on the beach, there is nothing left as dawn light shines down and vaporizes all of them" Back to the ship, a small rock boi drops from the ballista bolt, onto the deck where a bunch of pirates are waiting. They laugh, cause small rock boi. Takes breath, taps shoulder, enters rage, rolls D1000 for random wild magic, raises flaming warhammer, que them all sh*&ing there pants in fear from a large very angry rock boi with shadow tentacles that grant bonus attacks and minor fear affect. (skipping to the other perspective cause its funnier) Warforged: "I enjoy the sounds of human terror. is this what tranquility is?" Mino: "No, thats Mod having fun... we were told to attempt to capture the captain alive... dammit, lets go." Cue them walking up the gangplank as the screams stop, onto a deck covered in blood, shattered and burned bodies, limbs thrown about and the goliath, picking through the ruined remains looking for a "cool hat" Explanation: The pirates relied on their ship and heavy firepower to overwhelm opponents. All of them had the stats of a peasant. So, Dawn vaporized the beach crew, giving them a quick death, while the ones on the ship... well, as my dm explained it: "Flaming tentacle tenderization"

Bit late for this, but whatever. I don't have many stories, as I haven't played much, but my favorite (so far) involves a pack of goblins. My character, an artificer, was on his shift to keep watch while the rest of the party was sleeping, sitting up in a tree. We're level three at the moment. Twelve goblins try to ambush the party in their sleep, but their stealth checks don't beat my perception, and mine does beat theirs. So while they are successfully sneaking up on the party, they have no idea I'm there, and I do. As an Artillerist (subclass,) I can create various kinds of turrets with an action, then order them to fire with a bonus action. So, since I'm surprising the goblins, I get a free turn before them. I use my action to plant a flamethrower turret on the side of the tree as they pass under it, then trigger the blast. 15-foot cone. The DM's pretty new, so he made the mistake of huddling weak enemies in tight formation. I caught seven goblins in the blast, and they all failed their dexterity saves. Four instantly dead, three more barely alive. With that kind of AOE damage, as well as the ability to command the turret to move around, I killed eight or nine of the twelve goblins in that fight. Granted, they were only goblins, but it was still fun :)

Also, I haven't tried this out, but I really want to; a few days ago, I was talking with a friend and we came up with a character build that has some truly horrifying damage potential. I can't possibly be the first person to come up with this concept, but we did still put this idea together independently. It all started when I realized that a Rogue/Barbarian can do sneak attack damage while raging. I really like the idea, so we decided to try and figure out how to maximize the potential of this build. Our final conclusion was to take a single level of Rogue to access the sneak attack feature, then 13 levels of Barbarian on the Path of the Totem Warrior. This gives several key features that help the build. Reckless Attack gives an attack advantage, allowing it to automatically qualify for sneak attack damage. At 5th level, barbarians get Extra Attack. At 9th and 13th level, they get Brutal Critical, which increases the number of damage dice rolled on crits. The level 13 version has you rolling 4 dice on a crit. Which subclass features you pick aren't really that important, aside from grabbing Bear at level three to gain resistance to every type of damage besides psychic while raging. Because that's completely broken. We were originally planning to just go for more levels of rogue after this to increase the sneak attack damage, but then we realized that if we went to Fighter 6 with the Champion archetype, we could grab Improved Critical, making the character crit on a roll of 19-20. Also, they get another Extra Attack, so the character has three opportunities to attack every turn, each twice as likely to land a crit as an ordinary character. Going to level 6 instead of five also gives them one more ability score increase than they would normally get, because fighters are weird that way. So, since that one level doesn't really sacrifice much for the other two classes, we figured why not get a few extra stat points? The only downside to this tactic that I can think of is that you're limited to using finesse weapons, since otherwise, you can't get the sneak attack bonus. So your damage die is going to be a d8 at most, unless you get some custom weapon with other properties. Still, the potential damage output of this character is pretty scary. If none of their attacks crit, then their average damage output is somewhere around 50 per turn. If I'm not mistaken, maximum possible damage (every attack hits and crits, all damage dice roll max) is 160 per turn. And remember, these numbers are for EVERY TURN. Without the help of any magic items giving stat or damage boosts, or consuming any limited resources. Since they've got some levels in Fighter, they have an action surge too, which would let them attack six times on one turn, boosting average damage to 94 and max damage to 286.

Oh man, I got a few, but let's go with one of the more recent ones: During the Timeskip campaign involving Korn (me), a kobold thief of not only riches but also pain, Throm, a dwarven bloodhunter ball of waspbrain, and Lund, an ent barbarian, there was this point in the campaign where we(I) were convincing one of the sub-BBEGs that their revenanthood was misguided, handing him everything that falsified the idea of his wife being killed, as she instead... chose to take her own life, unable to withstand waiting for the Great Soldier to return from his MIA. While that was a success, ANOTHER sub-BBEG (a fallen Aasimar) decided to crash the heartwarming party to take back the revenant. I, with my expert sleight-of-hand, substitute myself in, giving him a chance to escape (which he takes). After a few hits from our party and allies, the Aasimar decides to run, claiming this won't be the end of him. Little did he know, we have a yeetmachine. Throm and I load up onto Lund's arm, alongside a few electric golems (mercurial iron, homebrew) and get launched after him as he flew through the cloud barrier. We easily catch up to him and I use one of the features I was given to assist the others' damage. Then Throm lands a critical hit. With his blood rite active. And a unique weapon, a chainsaw-headed axe that gives him YET MORE damage dice as a limited feature. On top of my radiance assist. A critical smite's worth later, and the Aasimar was WELL in the negatives after Throm's First Attack. one "how do you want to do this" later, and we decide that Throm's saw-axe had split him straight through the spine, gibbing his wings as he did. And as though that wasn't enough, after landing (safely, thanks to the golems becoming a springboard to slow us down), Throm goes on to rev up the saw and gib the aasimar until only a pulpy mess was left. He... Really hated the guy.

I have a hexblade who essentially prestiged recently. Before his prestige, he was horrifying. Like I'm talking 2500 damage per turn on a bad turn kind of horrifying, 10000+ on a good one. I was riding a horse to somewhere while under a time crunch and was approached by a rust monster first, and a revenant afterwards. We surmised that having any more encounters would be useless and probably wouldn't happen because of the sheer odor of death. I dealt so much damage to the revenant that it literally obliterated the soul. Yes it was very heavy homebrew but I'm still proud of it.

Me and some discord friends did a redo of our first session of homebrewed 5th edition because our DM skipped a chapter of his so we had to run it again. I'm an eladrin ranger and on our first encounter i rolled a nat20,not only that i was duel wielding swords with d8+2 pierce damage for each blade and i had double d8 rolls since it was a nat20 dealing around 16 damage. After my turn when they attacked back my armor score was too much and it did no damage to me. Next rolls i rolled another nat20 following the same rules again dealing 27 damage the next time on the same target. Since i rolled nat20 i got to describe what happened to that man. In short i did a traditional anime disappear then reappear behind them saying "This battle is over." Then swinging the blades with enough force that the blood from the now deceased is now on the ground as well as his diced up body. They were so amazed my discord server name was changed from strxts to crxts. Tl:dr one nat20 wasn't enough to bring one guy down so i rolled another. Apologies for the paragraph i have a habit of doing so.

I have an actually played yet, but I’ve actually put together at least some ideas for campaigns in case I ever DM I actually used a character creator app to make a bunch of warforged soldiers to act as generals or even minions for regular encounters. I even gave them some custom weapons using the damage severity by level chart Meaning that the absolute weakest level one minium can deal 1D10 damage and The level 17 possible BBEG as a standard long range attack can deal 10D10. Oh my question is basically is that too much?
@gnarthdarkanen74643 жыл бұрын
It's going to depend as much on how you set up encounters and use them as it does on their stat's... When you get the chance, Play... Play quite a bit so you get used to more than just the rules of the Game... What you're asking is a bit complicated, so I'm going to spread this out (organize it) so you have some quick references to help you figure it up in smaller groups and chunks... That's the easiest way to get to "what is too much"... Three portions of an enemy stat-block actually make up the enemy's combat effectiveness... The damage it can take (HP and AC) ... The amount of Damage it can deal (when and if it gets to deal any) ... AND the likelihood that it CAN deal damage (scores required to hit)... In D&D AC determines how difficult it is to cause damage on a particular Character, BUT it's a matter of either do damage (hit) or don't... Once hit, there's Hit Points, the amount of damage a Character can sustain... AND at first level, each class has a maximum amount... Only Fighters and Barbarians get 10 or more Hit-Points... SO too many enemies facing a first level Party with high damage output risks an early TPK... The damage it can deal is pretty straight forward, and it varies by specific weapon... AND it's different for Characters as well as the GM's NPC's and Enemies for the Party... SO a Party with a lot of Hard hitters and Heavy Weapons and spells can dole out a lot more damage than a light-weight Party with more subterfugal devices and evasive or illusion based magics... AND the likelihood for actually DOING the damage is down to skills/reflexes/instincts... SO being proficient in a weapon allows a Character to dole out damage more often, while another Character with a bigger weapon will fall behind in damage quantities over time for NOT having a proficiency with it... The Dice are NEVER anyone's friends... Every single time you roll for something, you have exactly the same chances for meeting a given range of numbers as you did at any other roll. They do not care, and there is little or no significant trend for starting from some result and rolling anything else... It seems like it might make sense, but any particular number on a D20 has about a 5% chance of showing up on any particular roll... full stop. BUT WAIT... There's more to it... Action Economy... This is the harder math of figuring the size of the Party, and thereby the sum-total of their actions per round in direct comparison to the Particular Enemies in question for their "group size" and the sum-total of their actions per round... Basically (in simplest terms) if you want the Party to have a rough battle, but survive fairly reliably, set a Party of 6 or so against a Dragon with 10 or so Hit Dice. The Dragon gets 3 or maybe 4 attacks per round (mundane variant is "claw-claw-bite" OR "claw-claw-bite-tail slash"... Each of the Party Members should average 2 or 3 attacks per round (times 6 Party Members) for a sum-total of 12 to 18 attacks every round in combat... Almost without exception, in the race to KO or Death, the Party has the advantage of shear numbers to achieve more frequent Crit's and simply outpaces the Dragon on damage doled out (average)... AND if you want to KILL the Party, Sic a Party of 6 against 12 or more creatures of about half the Party's average Character, so even a level 1 Party can face off a dozen Kobolds (at 1/2 or 0.5 Hit Dice) and get easily TPK'ed if the Kobolds don't get a streak of bad luck... Each kobold gets 2 or 3 attacks per round (times 12 Kobolds) for a sum-total of 24 to 36 attacks for the Party's 12 to 18... even with smaller weapons, the Kobolds have the edge... This Action Economy configuring is just how the Game works in Play... Initiative is rolled (and adjusted for Dexterity and weapon-weight) and this only determines who goes in what order... Then actions are declared and damages are resolved through the dice rolling... I know you were probably hoping for something along the lines of "Sounds reasonable for a Party of so-many" or "Are you TRYING for a TPK on the first session???" BUT it's not quite so simple as that. It's difficult to be complete and keep everything as simple and straight forward as possible... SO I DO hope this helps a little toward what you're trying to put together... I was lucky enough to get into D&D back in the days of XP and having to figure up all that math, so we got kind of used to a LOT of the math behind the scenes... It seems like more work than it's worth, but it's proven worth the extra inspection because it details the shear SCALE of enemy (and epicness) of any encounter. ;o)

In a recent session my high-elf rogue crit with sneak attack using a bow on a goblin, the goblin had been hiding and I rolled high enough to spot him. I had decided to use my bow and fire at him in the bushes which counted as sneak attack because he didn’t know I could see him. I hit him with somewhere around 24 damage, decapitating him instantly, it was the last kill of the session and boy was it a good one.

Recently happened in a short campaign that takes place in Eberron. That was closer to the end of the campaign and everything was pointing out that BBEG have something to deal with local doctor's office. Party sneakily infiltrated the facility (under invisibility, rolling something in ballpark of 28 for stealth), goes through each room. In one room they see a gargantuan pile of flesh, that have eyes and pseudopods, so they decide to close the door as that's obviously not a BBEG and maybe not even evil. Next door - doctor's office, and they see there a halfling sitting on a desk, working with documents. Rouge: That might be our BBEG! Did he noticed me? DM: [Rolling] No, he seems to be working with the documents and very consumed with that. Rouge: DOes he looks normal? DM: Roll me some perception Rouge: 22 DM: Yeah, he seems to be a bit strange, but you recall that you've heard about his doctor's office way before the campaign started and he always looked like this, nothing that you wouldn't expect from old halfling from house Jorasco. Rouge: I want to shoot him. DM: [Sigh] Roll me for an attack Rouge: Nat 20. DM: Roll me for damage. Rouge: [Rolls a bunch of dice for Crit hit and sneak attack] 44 DM: You shoot him straight through the head [doctor had 3 hp] and he's dead Rouge: I go in and look around the room. What do I see? DM: On a table you see a picture of this doctor, playing with his son, and a picture of him with his son and wife. You also see an unfinished letter on a desk. Do you want to read it? Rouge: Yes... DM: This is a letter to his wife, he apologise to her that he will be late for dinner tonight as there are a lot of patients waiting outside and he also have a deadline coming for his research. TLDR; Rouge blew the cover by sneak attacking a common doctor, completely ignoring pile of flesh with pseudopods next door.

I think I've told this story before, but I'll tell it again. I GM'd a game of Dragon Age for almost 10 years, and in that time we had a player who went above and beyond when it came to overkill; our human warrior berserker, Blairic Underiff. He specialized in two handed and dual-wielding, and was played by the most timid among us at the table. Anyway, on to the specific overkill. During a quest to get to a tower where darkspawn had been pouring out of in the Korcari Wilds, the party came across a disheveled old war camp of the Ferelden empire. After a short time in the camp, the party mage noted how the veil was thin there. Meaning the potential for demonic encounters was very high. Lo and behold, they ended up coming across a mage possessed by a pride demon. This mage was the boss of this side encounter, and was meant to be a serious threat. Mainly because they used the at the time new necromancy spells to resurrect two darkspawn ogres to support him while throwing AOEs and buffs. This fight was going hairy, the boss was barely touched after several rounds of combat. Eventually, Blairic's player got fed up in character, "Screw this! He's mine!" He shouted in character, declaring he was going into a rage and moving across the battlefield to close in with the boss. It took some tests for him to close the distance properly, but he made it. Cue his rolls, which the system uses as a three D6 system. That roll came out as three 6s, and he proceeded to use the resulting points for his rolls alongside his class bonuses to add an extra d6 damage on top of his already 3d6 great axe, and his +11 damage mod while raging, and a second attack afterward while also cutting the mage's damage resist in half. I had a house rule that stunts that were declared alongside second attacks would carry over, so he essentially got 4d6+11x2 off twice at half armor/DR. He did around 50 damage or so in one turn, and that was enough to kill the boss outright. He wasn't meant to be a damage soak after all. "How you gonna do this?" (I'd been saying that years before Critical Role was a thing btw) cue the table cheering. "My first attack slices his legs off, sending him cartwheeling in front of me, then I bury him into the ground with the second attack right into his chest!" And that was the greatest, single attack overkill I've ever seen.

I wasn't a great DM and gave my sorcerer player a cantrips to create a rock. He would roll a 20 to hit and then a d100 for size. 90-100 a boulder. Then I would calculate the damage based on the size and speed. First fight of the game and he says "I would like to try out the cantrips you gave me" He rolled a 19 and got 90 for the size. 8 bandits all coming out of the woods, and besides the ones that where in a tree firing arrows... They all died, crushed under this random boulder. Except for the one that rolled just high enough to not get Completely crushed. Legs broken, bleeding out. He tried to crawl away bit the rouge +UST walked up to him and slit his throat. The rest of the bandits ran away.

Don't know if this counts as overkill or just a brutal kill, but this was just yesterday. We were playing a seemingly innocent session until my character left the hot springs in this castle of a friendly lord. My character (half-orc half air genasi storm sorcerer/fey warlock) noticed some blood on the ground.I immediately grabbed the other character and the NPCs from the hot springs and stealthily walked up to the room with our stuff, 2 other PCs, and an NPC that my character had essentially adopted. We saw the NPC, and many others all dead on our way there. To stay safe we didn't examine carefully and just kept moving, though my character dropped stealth and made a beeline for the room. The hallway in front of the room was filled with bodies, but we forged on and entered the room cautiously. Everything seemed fine, and the NPC my character adopted was there alive, so we believed it was most likely an illusion. We went to find the lord of the house to see if he was okay. Then the NPC who was in love with the lord, seemingly raised their rapier above the lord just as the other PC I was at the hot springs with got stabbed in the back and we rolled initiative. Eventually, my character looked at the adopted npc and realized that this was an impostor. The plan was to knock her unconscious by using magic missile on her neck. Plan didn't work since I rolled too high, and I ended up decapitating the imposter. I was okay with it since I was 95% sure that this wasn't the same character and the real npc was dead. Safe to say that my character was not chaotic good at the time of this action.

One of my players was a fighter that managed to reach a high of 66 damage to a single enemy. Said enemy only had 22 health total. The other player was a rogue swashbuckler that managed to hit for 114 damage against the final enemy, a sahuagin baron that had 69 total hp. Needless to say, I do think I should have made it slightly more difficult

Not overkill, but apparently there was supposed to be an epic second phase to the battle with Iymrith in SKT. My rogue one shotted it... 245 damage iirc. I thought she had run away because she was near death, so this didn't surprise me, but it made the DM have a BM in his chair. In Dragon Heist my lvl 3 barbarian grappled a powerful Drow assassin and ripped him apart. He had like 70+ HP, apparently. The funniset part was him trying to levitate away, but falling because of the extra weight... repeatedly.

Not actually a D&D story, but it definitely counts as "overkill". While playing a game of Top Secret/S.I. (modern spies) we were working with the French government and had been dropped off by submarine at a remote island in the Indian Ocean. Turned out the bad guys had built a secret facility on a cave on the coast, which had a big armoured door at the entrance. After the bad guys had machine-gunned a boatload of French marines we were trying to figure out how to get inside to attack them, and I asked the officer who we were working with whether the submarine had any Exocet missiles on board. 10 minutes later there was no door, and we were able to carry out an un-resisted sweep of the facility looking for survivors and intel.

Well shoot, now seems as good a time as any. I had a Noble Tiefling Paladin that had a Paryton as a mount. we were traveling in the southern regions of the continent when we came across a forested area we had passed through before. And we found the remains of this reclusive wizard guy that we had befriended near the beginning of the game. Our tracker did some searching and found tracks that lead us to a troop of soldiers just outside the forest. these troops were from a racist cult that had overthrown the government of a nation near my own and was currently at war with mine. we wiped out the troop and found directions back to their main encampment for the region. we ended up finding a MASSIVE tent city. we also came across a military unit that was allied with my own nation and we told them we would help them fight this army. We did alot of scouting during the day and realized they were only set up to defend in a ground battle. That was when My character suggested attacking from the air. we packed as many firebombs fire spellcasters and fire arrows as we could, onto the few flying creatures that we had. And arranged for the small military force to attack at night to distract them. the rest of my plan was to have our flyers go around and set fire to all the perimeter tents and forces. in under two minutes we had almost the entire perimeter of the tent city in flames and my DM was playing the flight of the Valkyries. he ended up not having us roll damage except for against the few enemy soldiers who were outside of the inferno. and he just told us that the fires would end up killing everyone inside. including the massive hulking general, who died of smoke inhalation. in the end i was awarded with over 450 kills and he had us remove a city from all of our maps. im still not sure if there were any civilians in there or not but my government didnt seems to care.

I was doing a session with my DM and I was separated from the party. I went into a house that was owned by a halfling named Tomskii. Wonderful fellow who was loved by all of us and sold orbs. He had 29 kids and a wife who lived with him. Anyways the Governor of the town asked us to see if he was OK because he hadn't shown his face around town for over a month. So along with the NPC companion Dundee a crocodile druid. We ventured in. Inside there lay Tomskiis body. A demonic voice rang out from his lifeless body and he flew into the air and papers flew out from the walls and the desk where he was at. A paper golem was formed and it charged at me and Dundee forcing us out if the house and shutting the doors. I play a cowboy gnome lore bard who's name is Jimmy Bob. For one if my magical secrets I took Glyph of Warding. I used every single one if my spells slots on the house 3rd, 3 4th, and a 5th level spell slot all doing Fire damage because I was terrified of this thing. Finally the moment of truth came and I did about 30 d8 of fire damage to the poor thing. It was also weak to fire so double damage. It had 35 health max and I dealt over 350 damage to it blowing up the house and shattering Two nearby houses caught up in the blast as well. Chaos ensues as spells, bullets, and fists start flying. The head researcher's bodyguard, a martial artist adept, attempted to take my character's head off with a kick. I dodged, and rolled to attack. After rolling ti resist damage, she took 11 damage out of her possible 12 and started crawling away. We finish off the rest, and Initiative ends. The GM says that i see the bodyguard crawling away down a cement block hallway, what do i do? I tell the GM that i holster my guns and pull out my M-79 grenade launcher and fire a high explosive grenade down the hallway. After taking into account my attack successes (i got 6) and the damage modfiers from Shadowrun's Chunky Salsa Effect rule, my grenade did 32 damage to someone who had one box if health left. GM said that all i see left is red paint, and then the hallway collapsed

Manage to overkill the last ghoul in the area...and manage to hurt the paladin REALLY BADLY in the process. Absolutely worth it because then we were able to snoop stuff and get some damn neat magical weapons and armor as a result. And give Pendragon an excuse to use his Staff of Healing he hasn't gotten to use all campaign.
