From Epica I would highly recommend: - Kingdom of Heaven ... the semi live one.... its a live overdubbed one but omg its face meltingly heavy - Essense of Silence .... the official live version is best... this one will pretty much give you a primer on later Epica... as will The Obsessive Devotion (official live) - In All Conscience .... this one is a personal favourite... one of their best tbh... it was a bonus track on one of their limited edition albums and doesnt get get nearly enough love. - Cry for the Moon.... off thir first album... to see where they started off from. This should get yer started

We don't have a lot of it here in the U.S. because this kind of music is poetic and really technical. If you don't have ridiculous talent like this, it's gonna take major training, either self or through a teacher, which costs money and takes a lot of time. The main labels want a lot of music out quick, so they slap a cute face behind a catchy chorus, (and that's not to say there's not good modern stars, I'm just describing the average. ) and prefer making money that way, whereas people like Epica have a passion for it, and they make their money because it shows. Things are changing slowly but surely thanks to Patreon. :) Might still be a while before we get anything close to the actual genre, and it will still probably not be main stream, but it's coming.

Live shows are the best for reaction videos, and Retrospect is a huge one! Remember that full orchestra and choir! And by the way, the correct pronounciation of her name is "See-mo-neh" (in her own words).

Epica - Kingdom of Heaven (live) for your next Epica reaction please! One of the many reasons I like Epica so much is because the lyrics are always meaningful. Songs like Fools of Damnation is an example but pretty much every song has a meaning.

Just started watching your videos. Always a joy watching people's reactions to awesome, wonderful music like Epica and Nightwish. I have a suggestion for another Symphonic metal band I feel gets grossly overlooked though. Like Nightwish and Xandria, it's gone through a singer change which has changed it's sound a bit, but still managed to come through the transition with aplomb. The band in question is Amberian Dawn. You should check out their video for their song Dragonflies, which is just as epic and beautiful as something from Nightwish or Epica. And maybe check out some of their other songs as well, especially with their original singer, Heidi Parviainen. She had more of a operatic style voice than the current singer, Capri, but was just as awesome. A good song from her era with the band would be River of Tuoni. And Heidi also has a new project she calls Dark Sarah. It blends a lot of elements of storytelling along with music. Check out her video for Memories Fall and/or Dance with the Dragon. Both excellent songs/videos.

nice one! :) Here are some of my suggestions again: - Crucified Barbara - "Rock me like the devil" or "I sell my kids for Rock'N'Roll" or "The Crucifier". You love hardrock and you love ladies palying it? You'll love this! - Huntress - "Eight of Swords", "Zenith" or "Sorrow" because how many other times will you be able to see a pagan witch with a great voice, classical vocal training and a love for metal? Not much anymore because unfortunately vocalist (and heart) of the band Jill Janus sadly took her own live last year... She still left us with some really cool music worth checking out though! That voice can get pretty insane. - Arch Enemy - "Nemesis" or "Ravenous", both live in Tokyo 2008 with Angela Gossow on vocals. But please be save and wear some form of protection against demonic possession! - Bloodywood - "Ari Ari" because they are a great and unique up and coming metalband from India and totally deserve all the additional attention they can get! They mix great metal with traditional Indian instruments, rap, a powerful message and a lot of fun. It's just great! :) - Gamma Ray - "Armageddon" or "Anywhere in the Galaxy" or... just anything from them as you love great, upliftig powermetal! These guys are the German legends of this exact genre!

There's a constant struggle between light and dark (order and chaos, good and evil, however you want to put it); every day, everybody is tempted in some way, maybe several ways at once. Some fall to one or more of those temptations. After some SERIOUS struggle (possibly with help from friends), some who have fallen can finally overcome the darkness. few of them are able to forgive themselves (even if they never forget the person or thing that tempted them in the first place). Not everybody survives this struggle, which is sad.
