I don't know what it is, but, even though I play the forward tees, I still rock the Par 5's and barely squeak by on the 3 & 4's. You are correct Matt. It's definitely a mental game! Keep up the excellent content. This 68 year old has learned alot from this channel.

I haven't been able to play as much as I would like this year. I've been struggling with a couple injuries. But the main reason is my older equipment has me struggling with my distance and accuracy. Not really being able to afford a new set of clubs, I thought about just quitting golf all together, but I remembered a video that a good friend of mine put on KZbin a few weeks back of the reasons people are quitting golf, he had some great advice. So I'm commenting on this video in hopes that he will donate a decent more current set of clubs to me to spark that inspiration to get back out on the course more often with a little more confidence. 😁 I really enjoy your content Matt, I like your character and I've learned a ton from your instructional videos. I really miss seeing you and Mike playing together, some of my favorite videos with golfholics. Keep up the grind and please consider sending a set to a guy losing his drive. Love ya brother

Unless you are playing with hickory shafted clubs, it is more the ball than the club. I've played with 50 year old persimmon woods and irons and the distance difference isn't much. Irons are irons - flat face, metal, and the lofts are higher. E.g., an old PW is probably 50 vs now where it can be 45 or 46. Just subtract 1 - sometimes 2 - from what is etched on the bottom of the club and it will be comparable. If anything, look at 2nd Swing or any place that sells used clubs and get a driver made in the last 20 years. The regulations have dictated how fast the ball can come off the face and in all reality, older drivers perform more the same than not. IMO, driver development has improved ball speed on off center strikes more than anything. Work on hitting the the center of the club and you'll be fine.

I played from the forward tees for the first time just after your last video of it, and it was so much fun. On these holes that would beat me up because of the length, I either pared or birdied. Drove it to pin high, chipped on and made a birdie on the #1 handicap hole. Surprisingly my handicap came down because of what I shot

I'm 76 and play the forward tees which is the only way I can be on the green in 2 on par 4s. As you say enjoy yourself and don't beat yourself up. Saw an article awhile back that was called the Rule Of 28 which is, take your average yardage of your drives and multiply it by 28. Whatever that number is is the total course yardage you should be playing. Works for me.

I shot 59 (-11) from the red tee boxes at Lincoln East in Oklahoma City years ago. It was a hot day and nobody was out there in front of or behind me so I played a ball from the blacks and then one from the reds on each hole. The course is pretty short anyway (6100 yards) and from the reds it's like 5100. That was really fun. You still have to make a bunch of putts to shoot that number though.

Playing the front tees is GREAT practice for getting comfortable at going low. However, it isn’t as easy as one might think. The tee shots need to be VERY accurate. The wedge game has to be superb. And the putter has to be lightning hot. You still have to hit quality golf shots, and hole putts.

I played from the red tees today, to practice for a red tee scramble this Saturday. After playing for 3-4 holes, I realized that there are golfers that has zero business playing from the blue or white tees. New players should always play from the red tees. Start there then figure out where you are. Had a guy in front of me getting balls from the range and topping it to the green then I counted 7 putts. The dude had a bucket of range balls in the back of his cart. Then on the final hole had teenagers lay down on the green to snooker the ball into the hole.

When I shot my best scores I had just practiced wedges from 100 to 120 yards for a week. Then I just laid up to that distance, stuffed in a wedge, and boom -- instant low scores. Looks like you could use the same thing.

All golfers should take this challenge from very forward tee aim to shoot their target score, ie 90, 80, 70. golf would be more enjoyable. Once shoot target score 2 times , move back a set, shoot same target score from that tee 2 times, then move back another set, shoot same score.. will improve as you go back this is how we should play golf.

Love this guy. He’s a very good golfer but no matter how good, if putts from 10+ ft don’t drop, even at 5100 yds hard to shoot better than -6. I’m a very Senior (88 yrs) low handicap golfer and won’t play at 6,000 yds but will play 5,700-5,800 yds Our guy is still young enough to play the normal Senior tees at 6,500 yd. You older Seniors play the forward tees, and enjoy breaking 80 consistently like when you were in your early sixties. Don’t allow peer pressure from younger guys make you play from the back tees. I don’t have to prove how good I was in my 50-60’s, and trying to play 420 par fours isn’t going to show how good you were. I’m not in competition anymore, its all recreational golf playing $5 nassaus

First hole...take the pin out and it drops. I tell ya, I do not know of any reason to keep the pin in the hole when putting from the green. I have never seen it help, only hinder. Take Rahm's putt the other day on the 18th in the Ryder cup. Overhit it, smacked the back of the hole, jumped up and dropped in. With the pin in there's no way it drops. Don't be lazy, people; take the damned flag out when putting.
