Agree 💯% on her as a pianist. She seemed to light up when she played and goodness can she play 🎹. If she was performing and playing piano, I stopped whatever I was doing to enjoy it

She was a gift from god for sure. The most pure,raw,lasting talent I have heard. I worshipped her music in the 60s and on til the day she went home to God. Great recording. Ty.

In 1989 Aretha stopped smoking and you can hear her voice was going back to the old Aretha. My favourite Aretha eras are 1967-1981 Then 1990-2000. FANTASTIC VIDEO.

Thanks Babe..I try to do my best to do a nice presentation as in video and pictures of Aretha to go with these audios..it's all in memory of the Queen and to keep that legacy ging in a small way of her awesomeness :)
@direfranchement
@direfranchement 4 жыл бұрын
That isn't correct. She didn't stop smoking until 1994, and she subsequently gained a large amount of weight. As can be heard here, access to her upper register is still quite limited and it had been since around 1980. After she quit smoking, she regained access to the higher notes, but the perforated quality to her voice as can be heard here was permanent.

This audio is actually from her 1990 Radio City Music Hall concert. They showed some of it in her 60 MINUTES profile that year. She wore the same outfit on the MDA Telethon, but this isn't from that.
@MrsMattMurphy
@MrsMattMurphy 6 жыл бұрын
I'll have to compare the audios because I have the 1990 Radio City Music Hall concert - actually have most of them - so will do some research - you cant trust descriptions then can you on some audios - but I will double check! Awesome regardless - she's killin' that piano a slow and painful death lol
@MrJmervel
@MrJmervel 6 жыл бұрын
Indeed she is. I wasn't sure until I heard her do the piano riffs after the bridge. They were exactly the same as the 60 MINUTES piece, and I know she doesn't usually do it the same way twice.

@@MrJmervel Oh damn!! Gosh dont feel like doing the video again because I put in the title page at the begining it was MDA - but maybe if I change it in the info - havent pulled up the 1990 Radio City Music Hall audio as yet - but darn it! lol I'm pasting this link to a lot of those who subscribe or wish to (no pressure) join a new - only a few days old fledgling group on fb i created - if you're interested here is the link: facebook.com/groups/ArethaEternalQueen/ See on the 60 mins Show tbh I thought it was from a concert - then everyone was saying it was from MDA Telethon but now I think about it it definitely looks like a concert on 60 minutes not a telethon I thought that was odd

But once again all the glory to this Queen Aretha - I just upload and edit them a bit - I am busy working on a new Aretha fb page at the moment - but I will get rid of the mda description on the audio - thanks for telling me that - because I like to try and be accurate with the uploads :)

Gladys Knight said that Aretha rarely used her talents and I understand it. Her performances were good, some great and some were absolutely stunning. If only she made more effort in her later career, we would have so many more gems like this. But during the last 20 years or so I had too often an impression that she slept off too many of her performances

I think she used them enough to have held the reign as the one and 9nly Queen of soul for six decades! Come on now what more could you want, she touched your soul didn't now didnt she, and that's what kept you coming back for more, and she still 8s the BAR and always will be,her job was, how shall I say, well done Aretha, well done. RIEP dear heart the eternal Queen of Soul.

I agree. Often it seemed like she was going thru the motions. It could also be that she was not as confident in her voice. Smoking really wrecked her beautiful natural soprano.
