I can't recommend the Adventurers Backpack card deck highly enough. All the backpacks are in there. So I use them as random treasure. You find a backpack in the dungeon; pull a card from the deck to see what's in it. The ABP also has spellcasting options for bards, rangers, and paladins. Best thing is that each class gets its own list. It's not just from the wizard list or whatever. I also really like the Adventurer's Spellbook because it vastly opens up options for PCs and NPCs. Some spell levels have over 60 spells! And you could use these for any OSR game.

I really like the Adventurer Backpack. I didn"t understand how Rangers and Bards learn their spells: rules are a Little bit vague and nuclear about these topics, IMHO. Great book, in any case

Player: "My fighter has finally 2,000 XP. Do I level up?" GM: "Nah, you need 1 more XP." That tiny detail drives me nuts. LOL

Solid video. Others have mentioned some of the good bits, and I just wanted to mention that there really is a difference in how my players have responded to C&C vs. D&D 5e or Pathfinder (1e or 2e). I think it fits the play style of our particular group more (except for maybe 1 player). Most of the players want to be flexible in the character concept and not have mechanics that hurt them (feat chains or special class abilities that you have to take), more of a roleplaying build or even a character concept build (with combat still being a part but not to the exclusion of the other parts). With the choice of primary attributes, there is still a somewhat unique mechanic for customization. As a CK, I love running these games.

You'd mentioned optional critical rules. Where were those hiding exactly? I've been looking through the rules on and off before we give the game a go and haven't seen them.

Do you think you could make a video recommending how to scale magical and non-magical classes with gear in order to run a campaign against monsters of equivalent or higher HD than the characters? Seems like a lot of the martial classes mostly gain bonuses against lower HD monsters.

Ummm, that is an interesting scenario. Here is my suggestion, a generic one that will scale up and without relying on magic items per say. The party make-up needs to include the following: A Fighter (pure class) Sword & Board; Good or Exceptional Quality Gear; High AC and Bonuses to Hit (BTH). A second Fighter Type, Ranged; also Good or Exceptional Quality Gear; High AC and bonuses to hit & damage (composite bow). A Cleric for healing & buff or protection spells; High AC. Finally, a Wizard with spells that deal damage and or slow or hinder the opponent. If you have a 5th character, you might go with Thief for balance and focus on ranged attack as well. But, a second healer in the group perhaps a Druid is a great choice as well. C&C is very supportive of party balance and high quality, non magical gear. There are two great threats in C&C that often go unprepared for. Some low HD creatures have multiple attacks per round, and if you are using Crit Hits / Fumbles system those multiple attacks can be devastating if there are a lot of these low HD critters in one encounter. The second really surprising challenge come from creatures out of the Mythos books. These creatures are deceptive in power because many have low HD, but very high damage for their natural attacks. You could have a 2 HD creature with a 3d8 Dam bite and multiple attackers. That kind of damage is more than enough to drop a level 2-4 character pretty darn fast.

The country with more ancient tombs and hoards of treasure than anywhere else? The country most associated with magic and alchemy? A mythology as deep as the Greek and Norse legends? The country most associated with the undead? The site of ancient empires stretching back thousands of years, whose secrets lay just waiting to be discovered by Intrepid adventurers, who must brave traps and curses to glean them? ... I guess you're right, what could Egypt possibly offer as the basis of a campaign setting? This doesn't sound like Dungeons & Dragons at all. 🙄

@@calvanoni5443Sadly, Egypt in games is always a desert and ONE of the main reason it is chosen as a backdrop, as I will mention in a comment further down. Nile river delta must have been pretty when it was lush. 🙁
