Sonny Cannon don’t forget about the good ole 9.9 Johnson! I have 2 of the 1979 models and wouldn’t trade either of them for a new 9.9 Mercury. The more I run them the better they run.

Dude those are some badass maneuvers you're doin on such a small boat. I tried that in a 1550 V hull (with 4 people about 170lbs each) with like a 7.5 hp mercury i believe and the rear left corner began filling up with water when I banked too hard

one thing do not change your pitch from aluminum when going to stainless. it will decrease your power and 0ef9r, less . been in boat industries for almost 15 years

It's not a jackplate but a Tilt and Trim unit. CMC PT-35 is what it is. 5.5" setback. Thanks

I just fried a Mercury 25, am looking seriously at this Evinrude. Is that a jack plate on your boat. I have not seen one on a 1546 before, thats the boat I have. It looks awesome. Can you tell me more about the jack plate? Thanks

Nice boat and motor. I had a Alumacraft MV 15/46 tunnel hull with a 25hp yamaha with a 13 pitch powertech SS prop on it. One thing I liked about the powertech props is that the blades where cupped to help prevent cavitation(bubbles that cause your prop to freely spin). I loved my boat, if I was floatin, I was runnin. How do you like your Etec? I have always like Evinrude/Johnson's but ever since BRP bought them, I have always heard they went down hill. Still better than Mercuries. Wouldnt own a Mercury if you gave it to me....lol.

Thats a cool little rig for creeks like that. We have a 20ft Stratos 201 Pro Elite with a 225hp Evinrude Vindicator, but we also have those little 8ft bass raiders with a 30lb thrust Minnekota. We are looking to get like a 3hp outboard for it, but dont really want a Mercury. Do you know if they make Evinrude, Johnson, or Yamaha in a 2.5hp, or 3hp?

Dalton Keels No, evinrude does not make a true evinrude under 15hp. Evinrude and mercury both use tohatsu engines in their 15hp and under portable engine class. You have to buy an etec to own a evinrude engine. "Note" evinrude does build a 15hp kicker though. I own a 25hp etec and love it. Great engine.

They 15, 25 and 30HP e-tec all have the same block so weigh the same 150-180lb depending on accessories.

I have a 25 hp mercury sea pro 2 stroke on a 14'3" Princecraft Yukon utility aluminum boat. dry weight 240 pounds. I have a stock 10x13" pitch 3 blade aluminum prop. If I want to go to a stainless steel prop could I keep it the same or would I have to go to a 10x12" pitch bc the stainless weighs more? thanx.

Stephen, it really depends on what rpm's you are turning at WOT with your normal load. Generally the rule of thumb is to drop 1" pitch when switching from aluminum to stainless. I would recommend getting a tiny tach to verify your rpm's at WOT to set your pitch properly.

It depends on what size transom your boat has. If the transom is 16" then short shaft motor, if 20-21" use the long shaft motor

I set it up to run near max rpm with me only because I hardly ever run it by myself. If I was only looking for speed, then 13 pitch would be almost ideal. The motor is great, good on gas, plenty of power for me. Looking for more speed/power, then get a 40 or 50 hp 😀

Squidink if they’re a reputable dealer, they should’ve hooked it up to the exec software to read error codes. If not, you’d have to have the tools and knowledge to diagnose yourself. I don’t think the pump is rebuildable like the older days unfortunately.

Mazda rx7 Pocket tunnel would be a more accurate term. Tunnel is located in center and extends about 3 feet from stern.

a fuel pump replacement on a new motor...i have a 25 dt suzuki thats 21 years old and had no issues at all.. general maintenance. lets see if that e-tec can go that long. i seriously doubt it.

big difference is anything made 20+ years ago had more hands on inspection during manufacturing and qualified journeymen on the line. today most manufacturers employ cheap labor techs who couldn't care less about a thousandth of an inch.
