Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

Rhubarb is technically a veggie and a member of the buckwheat family. However in 1947 it was classified as fruit because tariffs on fruit was lower than veggies.

@@MrsSoapAndClay carrots are 💯a vegetable because they’re a root. They also make a great jam or jelly. Also I’m planning to have some fun with a rhubarb bitters recipe for cocktails.

I love the chemistry behind all this! From the chemistry I've studied, I agree that soap needs to be basic to function. Once you add acid (H3O+) to soap, the soap, which exists as water soluble ions (RCOO-) can revert into fatty (Carboxylic, RCOOH) acids.

So sciencey. 😂
@JP-fp8uc
@JP-fp8uc 2 ай бұрын
@@MsAubrey That's my area of interest. One could test that out by dripping some acid into some liquid soap and it will precipitate out the fatty acids as a layer of grease.

It’s because it’s being presented in a useful way. I wish more schools would do this for the sciences - show kids that they don’t have to be a doctor or a lab tech or teacher if you’re interested in chemistry.

wonder if you had infused some of the oil with rhubarb root that you could maybe gotten the red back or if the brown would overwrite it.

Leave the "heal" - the buttom part - on the steme. That is where most of the sugar content is in a rhubarb. I know that the lather was already great, but the more the marrier. I grow rhubarb in my garden and use it for chutney. But now some of it will go in a soap. Does it make a good shampoo bar with the lover PH?

I wonder how much more colorant is in the rhubarb root then the stems that we eat. Or if it just the water percentage difference and you would get the same color payoff with the solids left from juicing.

Wonder how much the heat from the lye on the juice would make the color change vs if you freeze your juice in thick 2” cubes first then pour on the lye slowly stirring it in. 🤔
@MrsSoapAndClay

I love pondering! It wouldn’t change - the neutralization reaction will occur regardless, which I think is why it changed so drastically. The anthocyanins dissociated easier than other compounds within the solution and so no more pink.
