Excellent video! CP soap- maker for 21 years, but love the artistic things that can be done with M&P (since my business has been “handmade from scratch” always felt like it would be “wrong” to use a pre-made base) Ha! Now I can make the base “from scratch” myself, and save $ in the process!! !Woo Hoo!!🎉🎉💃🏼💃🏼

Yay I’m so excited to try your way tho so thank you and yes I’m the video I watch they put sugar in last to clear it up
@iKit3062 жыл бұрын
Okay questions!! 1) What does the sugar solution do? This is the second video where someone makes a clear melt & pour base and both use a sugar solution! So... what does it bring to the melt & pour? Is it just for increasing lather? Does it increase the clarity? I'm absolutely confounded and curious!! 2) I noticed some brown bits in the oils and block. Were those from overcooking the oils or something else?
@MrsSoapAndClay2 жыл бұрын
All good questions! I’ll talk about this in greater detail in the final installation of this series, but the sugar solution is used for lather, sure, but also to help with the stability of a soap that is meant for remelting. It’s technically not a requirement, as the solvents are what really makes melt and pour meltable, but in clear glycerin soaps it does help disrupt the chains enough to keep the base clear. The brown bits in the oils I think must have been from the overheating of the stearic. I’m really not sure as I’ve never seen it before! They would have easily strained out, I think, but I didn’t want to mess with hot oils and strainers. 😂

I did my first melt and pour soap recipe with one of the Soap Challenges. It was very cool to do and easier than I thought it would be. I still have a small chunk left that I've been using for embeds. I will definitely try your recipe! Overheat the sugar and end up with caramel lol.

Ahhhhh the pillow cases dilemma... It's like you put 2 socks in the washer but coming out of the dryer 1 is missing in the universe somewhere. But I think it's about the weight of the pillow and it's stuffing fluff and that as you move in your sleep the pillow shimmies out of the case. For hubbster and I, I had to thunk up a redesigned version, for different reasons and it's going to be a few months before I can get it to prototype stages but I will send you one when it's done. Good luck until then.

Hello. Greetings from Cuba. I have been watching your videos and I love they way you tak though all of them and share yur experience, I learn a lot from them. I have been making cold process soap for about two years and I would like to try to make my own M&P base from scratch. I will first give try to the M&P rebatch that you showed in on video, where yu mention that it's ok to use either stearic acid or beeswax to make it harder. After watching this one video where you have shared your recipe, I have to ask if I can substitute use beeswax instead of stearic acid too. Thank you in advance

Would love to get your opinion on that. Bearing in mind I like to control what goes into my products, not bothered about clarity really (I usually buy the organic one that is slightly milky) but will compromise slightly for a product that saves money. 😃

Last I checked, the glycerin bases have gotten pretty expensive, and shipping prices are absolutely astronomical right now, so making it from scratch is probably a cheaper option right now. That said, you can make a scratch recipe very expensive too! 😂

Thank you so much! I've been wanting to try using m&p in my soaps, but I don't like the idea of not making it myself, so this will be extremely helpful for me. I do have a question though, I'm not sure if you covered it or not.... About the sugar solution - do you remove the water that you use to make the solution from the water that you use with the lye? Do I just mix the lye with the sugar solution? I didn't catch that if you covered it. Sorry! Also, pillow cases and kids. I just think they're mortal enemies and I have given up and just let them have the pillows without the cases. It cuts down on the laundry I have to do.
@MrsSoapAndClay2 жыл бұрын
So the sugar solution is 2 parts sugar, one part water. Dissolve it, and then weigh out the amount that you need for recipe (because there will be slightly more). As I said in the video, I usually put the sugar solution in at the very end, after the lye and oils have done their thing. No need to reserve any water from the lye solution.
