I didn't have the money for SLSA or SCI or polysorbate 80 so I used liquid soap I made. Works great for bubbles and mica. No mess to clean up, disperses everything nicely. Looks very similar to SLSA

LOL I bought the Poly 80 before the citric acid and (baking soda) bicarb in Australia. Haven't made a single bath bomb in my life, about to start though. Let the fun and games begin. I don't soak in a bath often as we're on tank water. Shower steamers are on my list as well.

I would simply cut back the amount of SLSA, and use like a 1/8 th cup in each color. Just to give it a little bubbling action. That way it doesn't diminish the fizz to much. I don't do a ton of bath bombs yet. Although I want too. I don't have a tub anymore ;( so I guess I'm jealous of those who do, lol!

The first year when I made bath bombs I made so many. Even used your frosting recipe. Best ever. And they all came out amazing. Next year. All of them crumbled. So I put them in a plastic container with a lid. I mean it looked pretty but still was annoying to have them all crumble. Love your content and learning. :)

Hi Chantene. I've been watching your great videos for months and love them. So generous with your recipes. I made your original Bath Bomb recipe of the 2 cup Baking soda, 1 cup citric acid, 1/2 cup corn starch and the Tbsp. each of water, oil, fragrance. I watched the one recently where you tested 4 and the one adding 2 Tbsp. of poly 80 was added. I tried that and it was to wet. I wasn't sure which ingredient or ingredients would be best to add to fix that so it would still work okay. Did you add extra of something to compensate for the extra 2 Tbsp. of the poly 80? I didn't hear anything in the video that you did. You are the expert on this so wanted your advice. Thanks so much.

Hey! So glad you’re playing with the recipes! If a bath bomb mixture is too wet, there could be environmental issues at play (heat, humidity) - I recommend adding more baking soda to the batch in that case to dry it out, or reducing the water amount for the next batch. Let me know how it works!

@@MrsSoapAndClay Thanks so much. I'm about to make another batch but smaller to test, lol. Two extra tablespoons of liquid made it definitely to wet. I left them to dry and they had raised cracks in them. I added more baking soda, but evidently it wasn't enough. I'll increase. Thanks again. Keep up the great videos. You are funny and blunt! I didn’t do cocobetaine in this? Whoops! So if you mix SCI AND CocoBetaine together, you have a delightful fizzy foamy bomb, for sure!

Hey! These are all surfactants, and as to whether or not they're natural really depends on your definition of the term (as it's a rather vague one with no legal definition in the US). The surfactants are meant to be super sensitive and are naturally derived, but many opt to not use surfactants of any form in their bomb recipes to keep the ingredient list as simple as possible.

Thanks for doing all the experiments, and a post-mortem thanks to your camera for its sacrifice on our behalf! 😭My SLSa happy place is only .25% of the total recipe (note the decimal point). In a 775g batch, that works out to ~2g SLSa, or about a teaspoon. Even that small amount gives great foam without causing breakage or any need to increase recipe liquids. My PS80 is at 1.5% of the total recipe; that takes care of dispersing everything nicely for easy clean-up. HTH!
