I've not been flying for long, but think this is worth a mention. I didn't have Google's when I got my first quad, so learnt Los, I did RC cars in the past so was ok with the controls reversing. When I started using fpv I struggled, it was only when I used headphones, I realised how much of a delay their was for sound, headphones really helped a lot with throttle management.

So much true in this video. Spacial awareness is a huge hurdle to overcome. Not in the general sense, but in the 70 kph through a small gap after a 30 meter dive sense. As you get more confidence then the amount of spacial tuning needed gets much higher. Throttle is also a big factor that makes a huge difference to your flying. Steele is giving you the benefit of over x,000 batteries flown. It is something that you have to learn the hard way or you can just take his advice and save yourself a year or so of hardships.

Mr steeles not lying flying with stuff to fly around even simply trees helps increase your skill so much. I started in an open feild yeah you learn basics but once i started going to the park and flying threw this cool tree patch and having to go in out of the trees i the first three packs at the park i went from bambi to flying through with confidence.

Flying as low to the ground as possible is certainly the best way to learn throttle control & in turn smooth flying. Is also my favourite thing to do, low flying has such a great look on camera when done well.

First thanks a shit ton. Ur vids made me get into quads. I had no idea what it was about. Im just getting into quads as of a few days ago and because your vids are my inspiration, mainly freestyle 5" quads. Just got my radio (x9d s/e) transmitter and fatshark HDO. Good bye savings account lol. No quadcopter yet lol. But this stuff realllllllllyyyyyyyy helps. Just the little things you cant see pilots doing but should be aware of ("massage the trottle") or tech stuff helps a shit ton. Stuff u might or might not see, but to hear it laid out makes u super aware of it during practice. Thank you for all of your vids. Keep up the good work.

If 5"or6" is too much, and you wanna fly with gopro or hd,you can build a 3"freestyle quad,I started with 5"builds and have worked my way down to building 1s ur 2s brushless quads also, its super addicting, been waterproofing so can fly more..weather and work out here has been krazy..so much that I busted out my rc monster trucks and been bashing when can:)if you can dont buy cheap stuff cause you will end up paying for it in the end..with stuff you cant even give away, happy holidays:)

Coming from video camera drones, it was very confusing and disorienting trying to control my quad in the SIM, but thx to your suggestions, I'm already able to zip around some of the city maps without crashing after only a few hours of flight time! I have no idea how people learned how to do this without these SIMs to practice on.

Practice on a sim first! Put in a few hours on a sim like Liftoff of Velocidrone before you even turn on the real thing for the first time! The help soooo much. I learned more in 3 hours of sim time than I did in months and many many crashes of flying the real thing. Good luck!

I'm an Angle mode duffer, and throttle management is key for me. I've found my hover point, and I adjust my throttle input curve so it's stick center. That way, controlling altitude is intuitive. My current rig has most of the thrust below center, because I've scaled the throttle down to 55%; hover's at around 42% of full power, so about 83% of the available thrust is below center with this set up - no runaways when I bump stuff. I fly indoors in a small space; it's kinda like running a GP2 car at Monaco. . .

Great explanation! The moment you compared it with a clutch you had me. Love these videos! In the end I think that you basically have a spacial awareness when you're used to play FPS-Shooters. The idea of simulating the whole thing before really getting in to it is the perfect information for a noob who doesn't want to destroy material and money.

Listen to him. Get yourself a good radio and learn to fly the Sim in acro there cause it is so completely different it takes quite a while to figuere it out. If you go buy a ready to fly after 1 min. You'll. Most likely be learning how to repair it for the next couple months. I've been there and lost a whoop on the first day that I got to fly because my ready to fly was broken it dead death flips and caught on fire from not knowing how and just cutting the throttle to avoid a tree and hit the corner of my minors house lol

Nice vid! I agree spacial awareness including visualizing the quads angle or position helps a lot to grasp what's happening in flight. I recommend pilots practice both freestyle and Racing. Racing disciplines more Pitch/Roll for altitude control as the throttle tends to be more restricted to the top end to get the most forward thrust

It's all preference. FrSky X lite is nice, or the x9... But I love my x7 with Hall gimbals!

Thanks for the great tips for us noobies. I accidentally flew my 5 inch quad into my sisters expensive window luckily it didn’t break but only scratched the coating lol Gonna start using the simulator more now to practice as I’m always Willy nilly on the sticks 🥴

This is incredible content. I literally am 2 days into flying my first drone. And this information is so helpful. Fuck im glad i found this channel. When i was young i always wanted to fly things so badly but it was crazy expensive in those days, but now its so moderately priced I can come back to it. And im loving it. I would love to one day fly a quad like you do man. Again, absolute top quality content and so well explained and helpful 👌👌

Do you think since I am used to Xbox. I would have a better chance at being successful using the thumb method? I just noticed your video. And the hybrid method you use might feel a little natural. I have been using a sim. But thumbs because I'm used to it. Thoughts?

Thanks MrSteele - I love the series! I could use some in-depth explanation on the joysticks movement when doing turns etc. Other videos that I saw described both sticks moving left or right at the same time for a smooth turn, but if I look at what you do, I only see the right joystick steering and it looks like the left one is only compensating for the altitude loss? Are these different styles or the fact that I just see your controller from the side..? Thanks again!

Part of it has to do with your camera angle. That will affect how much roll/yaw you mix together to turn. The main reason you aren't seeing much yaw from him in the vid is because his rates are so high. If you watch someone who races they generally run much lower rates and deflect the sticks a lot more.

@@st0rm4g3dd0n Thanks ! I'm currently doing my hours on the sim and will hopefully graduate to real flying once I get my gear. Did he ever mention in his vids what are the rates he's using?

Just got into the hobby a few months ago. I have everything so far except a quad/whoop but I still love watching this type of stuff to. It's always super informative. Thanks for the tips. And awesome content as always Steele. Be easy homie. One last thing if you see this. Once I do get a quad should I go betaflight or Kiss? Just heard BF is very user friendly for beginners but man your flying screams go with Kiss. Aight peace bro and grats on the almost 200k subs

Betaflight, kiss, flight1 are all user preference specific. Most freestyle pilots use betaflight. Steele can fly anything and have it look awesome. As a first build I would recommend betaflight. There are so many options in any price range. Kiss components can get quite expensive. If money isnt an issue then kiss is the way to go. Simple gui controlls everything. With betaflight you need betaflight and blhei (for escs)
