not a tool you technically need often, but if you own you tend to find uses for it cause they're just neat. I use my set to tighten homemade superclamps I made from threaded rod.

I have a 1/4" - 3/8" SAE/Metric Sears set. I think it's Great to keep in a car. I've used it as a deep socket. I recommend this style of tools for emergency use.

I have the Craftsman version as well. I think it was the 58 piece set. I bought it to replace the struts in my OBXT. I have to admit I use it a lot more than I thought I would.

I recently bought that, and the 1/4” set. I also bought the accessory set which works with both sizes, and contains all the hex, torx, slot and Phillips drivers. So far, I really like these. I like the angle adjustment that locks in at various angles, rather than swinging freely like so many others do, which often has you smacking your knuckles as you lower the angle without realizing it. The bars are a big in diameter, which they have to be, but it’s rarely a problem, and you can always use the adapters for standard 1/4 and 3/8 bars and sockets. The only thing I don’t understand is why the adapters pop in from the top, rather than the bottom as everything else does. But I admit I haven’t found a problem with that. Actually, I bought these sets for the shops in my garage, so I don’t have to go up and down to my shops in the basement where I have extensive equipment. I’m using it as a “regular” set, and they work fine for that. Otherwise, these sets are great.

Hello Mr. Subaru I like the way you think. I brought the original Gear Wrench set back 1997 or 98. It came with adapters for 1/4, 3/8 a 1/2 inch drive sockets, plus a screwdriver bit socket. Which allows me to be able to get into tight places. Which I still use today. I have not use the pass through set yet. Thank you for another Great Video.

Most hydraulic systems have blocks have bypass valves and/or sequencing valves. These valves are set with a hex/ Allan wrench and.jam nut also. I pack my gear wrench ratchet super lube grease, it keeps the dirt and muck out. Thanks for sharing

I use it as a deep socket, shallow socket, and the auto-ratchet fits in & around car suspensions... so you can use it all the time, and there's multiple brands that use the same Vortex patented fitting: KDtools GearRatchet, Gearwrench/Craftsman/Crescent/Husky/Kobalt Pass-Thru, ...

Yeah just purchased a deep SP TOOLS 17/16 mm dbl ring spanner $30.00 and hvy duty SP TOOLS "T" handle 6mm hex key $25.00 to do these struts. (These are Australian tools and about as good as they get.) The other thing I thought of doing was finding a 17mm socket with wrench flats on it, (preferably short so I could use the normal hex key down the centre), and using a suitable crows foot spanner to hold the wrench flats so I could use the torque wrench for tightening. 57 Nm from memory. But spanner will do the trick.

I first thought, "Oh Lord, another unboxing video"; where some a**clown pulls stuff out of a box. But I was pleased to see you added to this. Great idea and very useful. I've been thinking about getting one of these but have really seen the need, but now I think I can justify it.

I have both the 3/8" and 1/4" sets (with flex head) and really like them. They get used all the time, even if as just a normal socket set. I only wish I could find a non-flex head 1/4" handle separately... it is shorter than the flex head version and would come in handy. I have a 3/8" non-flex head ratchet in addition to the 3/8" flex head and it is much shorter. Anyone know a source for the non-flex head 1/4" handle? BTW... I'd love to get the 1/2" Pass Thru set, but they are hard to locate and very expensive (>$200).

@mrsubaru1387 I've been following you for years and you've always been helpful through your videos and responding to me. I'm having a tech problem with my 5th gen outback. Wheel bearing went so I replaced the entire suspension including the hub sensor yet my check engine light remains on and the cruise control is still flashing. Any idea where I go from here? No codes are showing up and I'm baffled. Any feedback from you would be much appreciated. Thank you so much for what you do your videos have saved me a fortune

Can't you just use flex ratchet wrenches for the same result. My Carlyle set even stick out a little for recessed fasteners & a more useful tool for everyday use.
