I still question why the PS1 games on PS5 have no option to remove dithering. That alone makes DuckStation far preferrable, not even accounting for the massive improvements offered by its advanced PGXP. And the PS2 offerings will never catch up to PCSX2. As for PS3, I never thought RPCS3 would become so good; those devs are geniuses.

If it was official, then yah Sony could easily make an internal (close sourced) PS3 Emulator that runs on the Base PS5. It won't run everything, as there would be edge cases, but most of the known/popular titles would be supported. If anyone is in doubt, the latest RPCS3 builds runs decent on the Valve SteamDeck and that thing is roughly equivalent to the PS4. RPCS3 runs even smoother on the ASUS ROG Ally which is below the PS4 Pro performance.... so a faster Base PS5 is definitely going to run even better, and with the resources Sony has internally, they would do even better than the open-source community. But knowing what we know, Sony is likely NOT going to do that. At least not for the PS5. They won't expend the reasources. And would rather save it for the PS6 as a major feature/upgrade to differentiate it from the PS5/PS5 Pro. Remember there's some great games locked to that 2006 console. The PS6 could be the console to run every generation: PS1, PSP, PS2, PS Vita, and PS3 through internal emulation.... whilst it runs PS4 and PS5 through translation layer.... and PS6 games run natively. They could have these backwards compatibility games only through the PS-Store (a la Classics) and not a Disc-based compatibility. They likely want the PS6 as an all-digital console, with a flimsy cable and external drive for the naysayers (more control for Sony, better profits).

Sony should just the brilliant minds behind Duck station, RPCS3 and PCSX2 team to make them a custom PS1, PS2, and PS3 emulator that can do 4k internal up-rendering. The hardware is definitely there and definitely possible. The base PS5 would have no issues running all previous libraries at 1440p internal rendering.

PS3 emulation Imagine paying what? 800 Dollars or so for a PS5 Pro and not even getting native PS3 emulation... It must be really difficult, even though Sony knows their hardware and software the best. That's why its so extremely impressive how good RPCS3 on PC works.

I don't think it's especially hard for Sony to do so, PS4 is somewhat of a relevant console while PS3 is not, so that's probably why. RPCS3 is a masterpiece of enumeration though

The saddest thing is how the PS5 hardware is perfectly capable of running hundreds of games through RPCS3. All Sony needs is to swallow their pride and reach an agreement with RPCS3's dev team. But the hard lesson here is how useless is to buy hardware you don't really own.

@@dunes3174 PS1, PS2 and PS4 can be played without streaming, only PS3. So being relevant or not is not relevant. The real reason is, because the PS3 architecture is so different and so complicated, its really complicated to emulate perfectly. Also you know, doing so requires ton of money and time as well. Even for Sony. And then it requires ton of hardware power to do so. PS4 off course is not emulated, as the hardware architecture is very similar and the backwards compatibility to PS4 was design decision from day one.

That 5K2K monitor has an ultra-thin aspect ratio of 2.37:1. I find the ideal aspect is the golden ratio, about 1.618:1. Those don't exist though; the closest in production is 1.6:1. But we could get a little closer and still have round computer-friendly numbers by using 1.625:1 (a.k.a. 13:8). This would mean resolutions like 1040x640, 2080x1280, 2496x1536, 3120x1920, 3328x2048, 4160x2560, and 4992x3072. Somebody needs to make these happen.

Just take the 16:10 screens and be happy. Don't fuss too much about the missing slither, or you'll drive yourself mad. Me, I prefer having a 16:9 phone but we're stuck with these 19:9 monstrosities. Ideally we would have followed the International Standard, just like A4 paper. Have the aspect be Root-2 so we have perfect size and perfect pixel scaling, especially since it ties with Binary Numbers so neatly.

Gonna wait for MCON release, as their own kickstarter even states backers don't get theirs shipped until August 2025 anyway, bar no delays. Its way overpriced at $149 USD retail, with an "early bird deal" of $99. Yeah, no thanks. I'll 3D print my own.

I think it's a cash grab. Retail price for USD $80 + $10 Shipping sounds fair. And early bird discount to USD $60 sounds about right. But for USD $150 + $20 Shipping, especially when converted to other currencies.... yah this thing is WAY overpriced. For that price you can get entire handhelds, like the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro (discount now). And the quality of the M-Con is questionable at this point. It's just not worth risking through IndieGoGo or Kickstarter. Besides, the controller isn't THAT great in my opinion. But I will reserve my final opinion until it lands in hands first. Have a look at the 2019 Samsung S10+ Razer JungleCat, look at its ergonomics, and how pocketable it is. That is the best comparison to make. Second best comparison to make would be to be pocket carrying TWO devices. Best example I can give is the iPhone 13 Mini and the Retroid Pocket 5 Mini, in separate pockets. And see what they're capable of, ergonomics, and how comfortable your pockets are. And do this comparison with the JungleCat too, and do this comparison again with the M-Con. That's why my hunch says the M-Con is overrated compared to the other options, but I would love to be proven wrong.

You need to stow it away in a backpack. It doesn't fit into your pockets. So ultimately these are two different products, just like an iPhone Max is to an iPad Mini.

The MCON is interesting and the information on the Kickstarter does seem very comprehensive. A little expensive though but I think that this will be the first of many clones to come, so will wait and watch the prices come down. To me the Steam Deck OLED is still the best device to get. SteamOS is just perfect and all the Emulators I love work perfectly with Linux. The biggest selling point however is the extremely good OLED screen and the resolution is just perfect. I don’t need a much higher resolution on a device this size, I can‘t see it anyways. Better colors and contrast are the way to go, that’s why OLED is so nice! And that’s also the reason why I am selling my Samsung Odyssey G9neo 57“ Ultrawide screen with Dual 4K (Samsung calls it 8K) resolution. It is QLED and not OLED. It was great for Sim Racing and productivity, but now I want an OLED with more vertical screen space and less horizontal. That 5K2K looks mighty fine and isn’t as taxing on the GPU as the dual 4K

PS5 cpu isn't bad at all. It could do PS3 emulation especially with Sony having the documents and being able to do per game emulation. They don't have to be accuracy focus as much compared to everyone else. Plus, they have more time and resources also. PS5 cpu is only sightly below a 3600X in performance.

​@@waterheart95 You mean the r7-3800X right? Because the r5-3600 is a SIX core cpu. The only if/buts is that due to the energy constraints and thermal limits, the console doesn't clock its chipset very high. So you have reduced single-core performance (ouch) and the multithreaded performance also takes a hit. The PS5 is getting older but it's not bad at all. It's SSD, RAM, GPU, and CPU are more than enough for RPCS3 Emulation. And with Sony's internal documents and talent, it's a no-brainer. Only reason why Sony wouldn't do it is because it requires effort/money, and that it's a selling-feature that they could make it exclusive for their next-gen PS6 console in 2027. They have been moving more and more corporate in the past two decades, which means more profits, more control, and less consumer friendly practices.
