For a first portrayal of Daredevil in a 1980 tv-movie, a lot of this seems surprisingly faithful. The acrobatics looks legitimately good, as well as the fight scenes. If i'm not mistaken, this telemovie is the first time they ever used the black Daredevil costume, and at the time fans were angry that it was nothing like his comic book costume. It wasn't until a couple of years later that Frank Miller did the "Man Without Fear" miniseries that had him use the black outfit as his "Year One" costume, that was later adapted in the Netflix series. So, you may like it in hindsight, but it was awful at the time and a perfect example of a studio demanding a change because they didn't want it looking too comic-booky.

I watched this immediately after the other Hulk TV special that featured Thor, which I liked much more for being fun and silly and actually having Hulk at the centre of its story. The different frame rate every time it switches to Kingpin scenes really messes with me, but upon returning to this and bearing in mind that it barely has anything to do with Banner and is mostly a Daredevil story, I do like this and wish a DD show had gotten picked up, off the back of this. I understand what Ang Lee was going for with the 2003 hulk movie but the execution is not all there for me. The comic book style of scene transitions and editing probably seemed like a good idea after the first raimi Spiderman, but in practice they just end up being unintentionally funny, alongside the fact that 2 of the 3 major action scenes (the forest one against the mutated dogs and the final one at the lake) are shot in absolute darkness so you can't see anything. I will agree that Eric Bana gave a pretty underrated performance as Banner

Nick Nolte was horribly miscast, that end confrontation was absolutely dumb, his stupid dangerous dogs were really bad, the action was difficult to follow, and the cg was probably as bad as you could get for a major studio film at the time.

@@doomstadt2371 I agree with everything you said but man...that movie had an atmosphere I really respect. Almost horror-like

@@doomstadt2371 All the CGI money went to the hulk for that movie clearly, to this day he still looks pretty good, even though he looks like a green gummy bear most of the time, he’s so damn green lol, but yeah the movie sucks, one of the most boring I’ve ever seen.

I love that the official reason he wasn't called Bruce Banner was because it sounded too comic book, when the actor's name, Bill Bixby, sounded even more like a comic book name.

I remember seeing the Hulk/Thor movie on TV and liking it, though granted I was a little kid at the time, and probably easily impressed.

I had recently gone on a binge, watching Hulk made-for-TV movies. I was surprised at how much I liked them and how they incorporated other Marvel heroes. I didn't know back then that they had made one with Daredevil and one with Thor. Yes, there was one with Thor, where his alter-ego would hold the hammer and call out something and transform into Thor. It was loads of fun watching these older series/movies!

The reason the Hulk wore a wig is because Lou Ferrigno was covering up his hearing aids.

2:17 And "The Invaders" and "Starman" (The series). There were a lot of men on the run. "Time Tunnel" always found someone to run from.

Aw man I love this series! My dad and I use to watch reruns of this when I was a kid. Despite it having a TV budget and limited special effects, I find this show charming in it's own way. It's not bombastic or over the top like how the comic should, but it makes up for it with heart I found the two movies the trial of the hulk and thor and hulk when I was around 22 and decided to buy it immediately. Both daredevil and thor were handle pretty well and Kingpin was an absolute unit lol I love corny shows like these and I hope you do the thor movie next cuz that has some hilarious scenes too

I’m so excited for next week. That Spider-Man show was the best thing ever! I rewatched it all and the multiverse bit at the end was my favourite. I love that in this cartoon world, there’s a version of Peter that is an actor playing Spider-Man on tv, which means that in that world, this whole show happened in live action. Mind blowing

Fun Haysey Fact, as a child of the late 80's/90's i saw all kinds of stuff i shouldn't have, Aliens, Jaws, Robocop, Terminator etc and i LOVED thme. But Lou Ferrigno's Hulk...that terrified me! Any time this came on i hid behind the sofa.

I love The Incredible Hulk TV series. Bill Bixby was a national treasure. Trial (Daredevil) was a great addition. Return (Thor) and Death weren't as good. I would have Loved to see a Daredevil series made in 1989/90

A few years ago I watched the first episode of the original series, expecting a good laugh. To my surprise, it was genuinely engaging and good. I really liked their explanation as to why and how Bruce Banner decides on Gamma Radiation. Even today, most comic stories and origins just kind of say SCIENCE and QUANTUM and that's fine but actually having it fleshed out the way they do even if it's total nonsense was refreshing to see especially from such an old show that was as you said just for kids.
@ProjektTaku2 жыл бұрын
eh, I thing you could streamline it down a bit and just say that he wanted to build resistance to radiation in humans and thought gamma radiation would be most effective.
