Not sure regarding visas etc, birgu seems popular, and there are Americans living here, could be easier if you have a job sponsored visa , but you can research Gov.mt

I can never get over a feeling of angry sadness that the beautiful old City Gate was destroyed to make way for those two ugly stone blocks in Mussolini brutal fascist style. They snarl out: "Welcome to the EU, ugliness and corruption!" Sorry, Steve. Not your fault. You make really great Malta videos. Thank you for this one. When I get my creaky, knackered old knees fixed, I'm going to come and go down that way.

If you want to keep on the tradition take the orginal tradtional ferry to the three citys the dghajsa its been in service for a hundreds of years without any help from no one, not like the other ferry thats gets help from the state, the orginal ferry cost only 2€ and take you at the herart of the three citys , no walking!! exactly in the centre. You go to venece and you go on the gondola, you go to malta and go on the dghajsa (tradtional ferry boat)
