@@melissalonla I watched a video about a baby that wasn't growing and the doctors couldn't figure out why that was. In the end someone asked if the baby's nappy was filled very frequently and smelled worse than the norm. The answer was yes, and the reason was that the baby just wasn't absorbing the nutrients from their food, so the food essentially went strait through their body. If not absorbing nutrients and foul smelling waste are linked, this would also explain why Tarrare needed to eat so much; because he was bad at absorbing nutrients from what he did eat, he needed to eat way more to survive.

@@Cosiek7 Basically it could be a result of the stomach being four times bigger. It could store way more food, but it would not be able to digest it well because of its size. There wouldn't be any more gastric acide than usual so it would not be enough for larger quantities of food, it would be able very small puddle at the bottom instead of filling a part of the stomach because the surface is so large meaning that it is overall less efficient and it would not be able to reach the food that is the middle because it is too large to reach them with the contractions. Basically, the size made it extremely inefficient at digesting meaning that he needed to eat more and more to keep up as only a small portion of what he ate converted successfully (meaning that the prussiana who tried to get the papers back had a very very big crap of partially digested food to search if that's really what happened). Option 2 was attack S.E asia when their colonial masters are busy fighting germans, fortify those islands and defend them hard so allies will bleed a lot so make them ask for peace. This is the reasons why japan attacked pearl harbor. Soviet was the only nation gave japan lifethreat before they bomb pearl harbor. There are some things you can't change. Nazi's attacking Soviet and Japan attacking US unless you remove young officers' coup attempt of 1936(due to this, japan became virtually millitary dictatorship. I'm going to guess that he had an inefficient digestive tract. Getting nearly no actual nutrition I'm sure his "fullness" was turned off so he could get enough to survive. The horrific part is, if that theory holds water, most things would pass through him partially digested, which explains why nothing he ate really damaged him. Also, it means that his organs shifted as a child and his nmfatigue and odor were likely due to his organs being unable to function.

For him not to have put on weight, he also probably had to have not actually been absorbing much in the way of nutrients from food, right? I think I remember reading somewhere that when he ultimately died due to a bowel blockage (I know... big surprise) his internal organ proportions were way off. His stomach was took up an absurd amount of space in his abdomen, so I guess his intestines we smaller than the normal person. I believe that could be the cause for him developing such a big appetite. If his intestines were shorter than a normal person then he would have as much time to absorb nutrition from his waste as it passed through him. He may have unintentionally stretched his stomach purely for the necessity to survive. The short/loose intestines could also explain the ability to pass a box through him with out any complications.

Being someone with hyperthyroidism I think tarrare had a severe version of mine, the feeling you get when you forget to take your medications will literally force you to eat anything you see

i feel like this is a historic case of prader willi syndrome. people with this syndrome have been known to literally eat so much that they die due to their stomachs exploding. the wide mouth thing kind of fits too.... as people with this syndrome fit that description.

I saw another video about Tarrare a while ago which highlighted the fact that he nearly always had horrific foul smelling diarrhea. I'd assume some kind of digestion problem meant he really didn't take up much nutrients from whatever he ate much like you speculated.

This teacher is the best. He doesn’t press the play button to play a video.

I work with disabled adults, and I do know from my experience that there are disabilities that include being unable to satiate hunger. There are ways to mitigate behaviors like Tarrare’s, but it isn’t easy. And from what I understand there is no cure.

Primarily what stops us from eating too much is just psychological, which explains why most of us eat way too much. You can also see that some (severe) dementia patients will be constantly hungry just simply because they can't remember that they ate a huge meal 10 minutes ago.

So I'm really torn right now. Normally as a KZbinr that has been around since really it's beginning it's one of those things that I have review channels that basically watch someone else's video and then talk a little bit to be abhorrent and evil. I can't find fault in your videos at all.I honestly started watching them to try to say that you were stealing one of my personal favorite creators content but then I realize that you're not only transforming it with your own knowledge and skill as a history teacher but also you give them credit like you do. Now I don't know if showing the sponsor at the end of his video is actually a good idea because it could somehow hurt his contract or they could come after you so I would look into the legal side of it but other than that I have to say you're the first review channel of your type that I subscribed to. Thank you for actually bringing a review channel to the table that can review and give proper dialogue to the situation not just react.

I don't remember the name of it, but there actually -is- a specific medical condition in which the brain and stomach cannot communicate, and you -never- feel full. It's essentially 'i'm always hungry always and never feel not hungry: the syndrome" and... as far as I can tell, it's incredibly awful. People have to limit their portions, they require constant aid to make sure they don't overeat, to stop them from eating when they see food, etc... It's apparently a -super- awful thing, if incredibly, unbelievably rare.
