Actually...on such small sensors Google would need even more magic to remove the noise from a 48/64MP sensor than it would from the 12MP. And then there's the extra processing overhead for the extra pixels. 12MP is, and will stay, the sweet spot for top-end smartphone photography. Just ask Apple.

I just got my Pixel 4a in yesterday - at $349 for a brand new device that promises 3 years of software updates, it’s definitely compelling as an Android device. For $50 more, if you’re looking for an iOS device that will get 5-6 years of updates along with a flagship, much faster processor, I don’t see it grabbing those buyers...but it doesn’t have to! It’s a great phone at a great price - I just wish Google would give it the marketing campaign that it deserves so that the average consumer would be aware of its existence.

Dhruv V-S The Pixel 4a and Nord hardly touch the same regions of availability. For one, the Pixel sells most units in the US - the Nord will not see US availability. Pixel is in Australia - Nord is not. Pixel is in Canada, Nord is not. Nord also isn’t in Japan, Singapore, or Taiwan. Dumbing it down to a device that’s targeted at a phone where there’s a large lack of regional overlap is missing the bigger picture.

This is probably one of the first phones I’ve seen that I see as worth upgrading to from my 6s. The options are always either too expensive, or the software experience is subpar compared to iOS, or it’s not a big enough upgrade in terms of certain hardware. This phone is probably the best balance I’ve seen, ever. For $350, I’m willing to bet that these things will fly off the shelves like the iPhone 11.

@@Kiror0_ Uhm.. A better quality mic would actually pick up MORE sound. That's one of the reasons you use sound dampening in recording studios etc... And you can use noice cancelation but that is not recomended for true sound recordings but is ok for normal use. And fyi: If I use my phone than the mics (think there are 3 or 4) actually sound great and have good noice cancelation. And ofcourse even better with my Jabra handsfree (it has 2 or 3 mics). But without noice cancelation on the Jabra the person in I am talking to would hear EVERYTHING because the mic is so good. (I tried with and without the active noice cancelation)

I have a 3a - and recommended it last year for the same reasons - the camera had nothing to do with it. (#whatcamera? ring any bells?) I took so FEW pictures with the 3a's predecessors - in fact, less than twenty combined! - that I saw camera apps on smartphones is largely irrelevant. Then along came the 3a. I wound up finding new uses for what has turned out to be the deadliest smartphone camera I had ever used - and I DO have an iPhone in my background - yet the $399 3a is - for all practical purposes - the Polaroid of smartphone cameras. (I'm not talking the 400 series of Land Cameras; while they weren't slouches, they also weren't cheap. I'm not talking the SX-70, either - even better than to 400 series; they also weren't cheap. I'm talking about the successors TO the SX-70 series (the Swinger and descendants). Point-and-shoot - and they WERE cheap; in fact, they are available still. (Not kidding; Wal-Mart anyone? Amazon.com, anyone? Best Buy, anyone?) #trout - realistically. You don't have to get BOHICA to get a solid, usable, serviceable, smartphone in the US.
