This year has been phenominal with the US Mint (not happy with the outrageous premiums) that has released several collectibles. I personally have two stacks: 1. Numismatics 2. Buying coins is almost always a losing investment. Notice there are almost no videos regarding reselling. Where are you going to resell? If you go to Ebay, you immediately lose 10% for the fee or 20% commission if you go to an auction house. If you go to a pawn shop, you'll be offered near spot. These MS-70's purchased a double spot will NEVER be profitable. If you buy an index fund in the S&P 500 then that day you may be up a couple of percent (or down) but you don't have to make up a commission fee. Don't get me wrong, I collect currency and have spent a lot of money. I love collecting! I know I have something of value but don't expect a big profit 10 or 20 years from now. What about gold bullion? I bought a lot of gold around 1200-1300 per ounce. If I choose to sell now at 1430 per ounce I may break even. Don't let anyone fool you! Coins, gold, currency...it is a fun hobby but not a legitimate investment vehicle that you will make a fortune off of.

@davidschechter99695 жыл бұрын
@@SilverDragons47 The early silver eagles may fetch a premium. The tens of thousands minted after that don't fetch a premium. Once again, even the increase in bullion prices will unlikely cover the commission if you try to sell. And sure, if you purchase a rare, 1795 $1 silver dollar, then you may turn a profit but that is a professional level of buying and selling. I dare say 99% of all coins and currency will be sold at a loss. You sneaky folks out there that buy on Heritage and sell on Ebay, I know you're there. They buy a lot of currency and coins and pay careful attention to their price and sell on Ebay with razor thin margins. If you sell 20-30 pieces a month averaging 1500 per sale, you can make a small profit. I wish you could prove me wrong. And remember, I love coin and currency collecting and have spent a small fortune. But I look to pay for this money losing hobby by purchasing stuff I hope to break even with one day. MS stands for MINT STATE. PCGS is a grading service. No one forced you to pay what you did. So quit your whining. The milk spots are from insufficient cleaning at it's mint which left a residue causing the spots. The spots were obviously not there at the time of grading. Toning does not effect the grade. Collectors will often pay more for toning. Even with the spots your coins are still MS70.

Occasionally, one flawed ASE will slip by the graders. Of course, those are the ones flippers will sell off on the secondary market. I've had many ASEs graded and I've had 2 or 3 sliders that maybe shouldn't have gotten MS70, but they did. Unfortunately, those are the ones that tend to get all the attention, even though they are in the small minority. I'm perfectly happy with 98% of the MS70s that I've had graded and I'll hang onto them probably forever.

Double spot isn’t bad especially when they will most certainly rise in price. I have some that doubled in 5 years

Still a pretty nice 4 pack. I'm sure you could sell them if you wanted and get back what you paid for them.

One of my best coins is a 1986 PF beautiful coin my father in law left us. This got me interested in collecting and now at about 1000 ounces.

I agree, if you try to sell them to a coin shop they only want to pay $3 over spot. The only way to even get your money back is to sell them to another coin collector. Now if you hold them for 10 years you might make a little profit. But if you want to make the most profit buying and selling silver, buy .999 silver bars for as cheap as you can, then wait for silver to go up and sell for a profit. I had some graded ms69 and ms70 eagles for about a year, and I was lucky to sell them for about what I paid for them. Then I bought some 5 oz. silver bars real cheap, $16 an ounce, and made a nice profit on them when silver was at $28 an ounce.

Yeah but you hold them for ten years and that's ten years you probably coulda made more than you did. Tbh I don't even buy these things to make money. All my coins I found or were gifts

I’m a collector myself. I don’t buy anything graded anymore maybe maybe if it’s a proof. When you go to sell if it’s ms70 most dealers will not give you that premium back.
