How loud does gunfire actually sound with these in use? Also, if I were to wear plugs under these, would I still be able to hear ambient noises fairly well with the external microphones?

Depends on the caliber's being fired of course. I'd think you'd be very well protected hearing wise around anything from 9mm - 5.56x45 NATO (223 rem) & 7.62 NATO (308 win) without the addition of earplugs ( earplugs depending on the make & model can greatly reduce your situational awareness used in conjunction with electronic ear pro such as these..).

To answer the first question, they are basically just normal over ear hearing protection with the addition of the ambient noise amplification. But in some situations that's a priceless feature (ie range safety, hunting or of course military applications). So don't expect a huge difference compared to quality normal over ear hearing pro regarding noise dampening. Keep in mind the ambient noise level can be amplified a couple levels kinda like a hearing aid also. I hope this helped

josh carter You're awesome, man! Your answer was very timely and informative! I'll most likely be picking up a pair of these when I pick up my first rifle. Thank you, I appreciate it!

There actually is a HUGE difference compared to my normal over ear hearing protection. The NRR on my current set is almost double, mine are NRR 34 and I think these are 18. So to answer the original question, yes, if you wear this type of noise amplifying ear phone please wear hearing protection under them.

How do the Sordins compare to the Comtacs? Looking to get dual comm Sordin, but is there anything at a better value?
@jcarter85510 жыл бұрын
Sordins in my use of course beat Com-Tac 1's & II's. Its more of a personal choice being that they both do the same jobs depending on the models. If it were me choosing between the Peltor or Sordin Line I'd go with MSA Sordin. Both companies produce a High quality product, so you won't go wrong with either.. If your just looking to protect your hearing their are much cheaper options in electronic protection.

Josh, did you convert from headband to neckband? If so, where did you find the conversion kit? Thx!
@jcarter8559 жыл бұрын
I did not Sir, this set sordin supreme pro-x I picked up from botoch tactical in the neckband configuration. they were apparently a sterilized contract overrun. I've done a lot of business with SRS tactical.com - that is the place to find all your earpro gear. I've also purchased a few sets off of ebay from the usmc shooters kit to pretty much any other version of either version of sordins Peltor's you like. I hope this information helps.

ok ,thanks, I saw that you had the headband and was wondering if you converted it. Great tip on the batteries.

The Peltor protac2 are better, much better dampening 32db which is great for indoor. similar priced, the only downside is the larger volume but thats the price for much better dampening

They're nice but its worth pointing out they're ratings are modest trevoronthetrigger.wordpress.com/2014/05/01/msa-sordin-supreme-performance-the-misleading-nrr18db-rating/
